Chapter 52 – Falling for the Last Lycan Novel

‘You are so stupid to think that you can trust him! You can’t trust him.’

‘Just because he smiled at you, it doesn’t mean he didn’t hide a dagger behind his back.’

‘You are supposed to be a brilliant girl, Zuri, but why you can be this stupid to trust them easily?’

‘Run, stupid cunt!’

“Why should I?” Zuri answered the voices in her head and Rhett noticed that.

“It’s the voices again, right?” Rhett asked, his voice was even more gentle if it was possible, giving her reassurance that everything would be alright. “I will help you. I will get those voices away from your head.”

Zuri then once again looked at Khaos and she didn’t avert her gaze until she got a response from him, only when Khaos nodded to agree with Rhett’s suggestion that Zuri finally came with her brother.

There was a slab in the middle of the garden and Rhett told her to lay down there. “I am your brother. I will not let anything happen to you, okay?”

“But, why I should lay down there?” Zuri frowned. “I feel like I am being in for a sacrifice or something.”

“Silly, I will not do that to you,” Rhett chuckled, the sound that Zuri was familiar with, but then her focus was on Khaos.

He didn’t do anything, standing rooted in the same place, their eyes met, but she couldn’t read what was in his mind. He was… scarily quiet.

“Come on, lay down,” Rhett coaxed her again until she gave in.

In the end, Zuri trusted her brother, as she laid down on the slab and stared at the bleak sky, as snow started falling. It was cold. The slab was cold. Her back was cold and the voices in her head were screaming at her to run, but like usual, she ignored them.

“Snow…” Zuri said in a whisper, as she raised her hand and touched the first snow that fell on her hand. It melted on her skin, but one of the strange people, who were wearing white cloak, grabbed her hands and shackled her, along with her legs too.

[Khaos, I am not sure if I can see this.] Caiden mindlinked Khaos, he knew what they were going to do and he had learned about beauty blood too. He didn’t think he could handle seeing this.

“Yes, it’s snowing now.” Rhett caressed her cheek, but her eyes were on Khaos, she kept staring at him.

However, the people in the white cloak blocked her sight and the pain begin…

Zuri must have not been in her right mind yet, because some time she would look confused and followed whatever people told her to do without questioning their motive further, therefore, it was not strange to see her did what Rhett told her to do, though she originally looked doubtful.

And now, this would be the first time for Khaos to watch how they inflicted the curses on Zuri. He couldn’t see her because she was blocked by the white cloak men that gathered around the slab, where she was laying down.

However, Khaos could hear it clearly the pain in her screams. The agony in her voice when she called for him.

That brilliant young woman, who helped him to get the deal, betrayed her own family for him and stood up through the misery that people around her put her through, right now reduced to a pitiful woman, who was on the mercy of these greedy people, who sought for revenge.

Zuri kept calling his name throughout the pain…

“What are you trying to do, Rose?” Nycta asked sharply once they were alone.

“What do you mean, Nycta?” Rose furrowed her brows, looking concern with the strong hatred that she showed her.

“I know what you are trying to do, Rose, don’t you dare to play innocent with me.” Nycta narrowed her eyes at her dangerously. She wanted to slap her, but at the same time, she realized that she was being controlled by her anger.

“Nycta, I don’t understand what are you trying to imply here. If you were upset because of my suggestion to the king?” Rose tried to calm her down, but Nycta was having none of it.

Probably this was pregnancy hormone, but she became more feisty and possessive over what hers and the king was hers. Her mate, her man.

“Try something like this again and I will make sure you will not be able to step in this

kingdom anymore.”

“You can’t do that.”

“Of course, I can. I am the queen.’

After saying that Nycta turned around and left, but Rose stood there, looking shocked, yet her expression quickly hardened and the first thing she did was to go to the king’s study room to meet with him and poured out her grievances.

“I don’t think I can help with the problem with the ship anymore, because apparently, the queen is not happy with my suggestion.”

Dacre leaned against the chair and intertwined his fingers, staring at Rose with impassive expression. “Why my queen has anything to do with this? Did you say something to upset

her?”

Rose shook her head, she walked over to approach him.

“Stay where you are, you can speak from there.” Dacre stopped her.

It surprised Rose slightly when the king refused her advance, she stopped walking toward him and stood a few steps away from where he was sitting. He looked regal, like the king he was.

Rose controlled her emotions and started talking with light voice, concealing all the thoughts she had for the king.

“King Dacre, I didn’t upset the queen, she is still my little sister, with the baby on the way, I will never try to intentionally do any harm to her, but…” she paused, gauging the king’s reaction. “I think she is jealous with our interaction earlier and now she wanted to send me back.”

Dacre nodded his head and his next respond left Rose speechless. “If she wanted to send you back, someone will prepare a carriage for you.”

“King Dacre!” Rose was mortified. She didn’t expect this answer at all. “I came here with a purpose, if you sent me back your action will not look good on my father.”

“First of all, you came here under the pretext that you will visit your sister, the queen, there is no agenda between two kingdoms and second, it’s my queen’s order to send you back. As much as this kingdom is mine, this kingdom is hers too, since she is my mate, the woman that I chose to be the queen, someone that I chose to bear my child, so if your presence is a nuisance in her eyes, she can do whatever to make herself feeling better.”

Dacre was impressed that Rose could come up with the idea with the ships, but it was not an impressing or an amazing suggestion. Dacre was more impressed by the fact a woman could come up with such idea in the first place.

The only woman that he knew could actually use her head was luna Zuri, after he learned the truth that she had been the mastermind behind the succeed of River Creek pack.

He only really learned the depth of Zuri’s involvement in the business recently after he issued a decree the union between her and Khaos.

That was a mistake, he shouldn’t have let Khaos kept such woman by his side, but even so, Dacre had taken a cautious measure about his mishap.

“Is that clear?” Dacre picked one of the reports and then waved his hand. “You can leave now.”

Rose felt humiliated by the way Dacre dismissed her, but she concealed it very well, as she read the room and knew it would only get worse if she insisted with her case. At the very least, she got the idea how this king was.

He couldn’t be seduced easily. It was weird, but somehow to find a royalty man loyal to their mate was strange, but also challenging at the same time.
