“That’s our boy. He was testing the waters with the giant.” Fen yipps in my head. I look over and see that the people around Lucas stopped sparring and were staring at him. I don’t understand why.
“Alright everybody that is class! Everyone go and enjoy the rest of your day!” Garret shouts and everyone begins to get up and leave. Lucas stops when he sees me and walks up to me, earning him some more stares.
I smile and nod to him before he says anything showing him that he did good. He smiles back at me with his blue eyes shining. I never noticed how red his hair is, but outside in daylight he has a head of fire.
“Luna. How are you today?” He asks and I roll my eyes at him. He never calls me Luna.
“I am well Lucas. It seems you are too.” I say back to him and he smiles. “But what was that punch back there? You could have dodged it and still have gotten the information you needed.” I mindlink him. He looks up at me guiltily.
“I have had to hide some of the strength and training we have done. I don’t want people asking questions as to why I am doing so well.” He mindlinks back and I nod in understanding.
“He has improved a lot in the past few months. I see why that is now.” I hear Garret say, walking up to us. He slaps Lucas on the shoulder and gives him a knowing look. Lucas’s eyes go wide.
“No Gamma. I told you I realized that this is the only option that I would enjoy doing with my life. I have always wanted to be a warrior.” He scrambles out and I hear Garret laugh, then looks at me.
“You taught him well. I don’t know how you knew that I wouldn’t be able to tell it is a vague truth though.” He says smiling to me and leaving Lucas gasping in shock.
“A truth is a truth, isn’t it? Your gift can’t tell if it is vague or not.” I ask him pointedly.
“I guess you are right.” He laughs and shakes his head.
“Gamma you. You know?” Lucas asks, finally coming out of his shock.
“Yes. I figured it out. I am very perceptive. And it helps that people can’t lie to me.” He shrugged it off.
“What brings you down here LeeAca? You haven’t been down to the training grounds before.” Garret says, looking at me curiously.
“I figured Alarick would have told you.” I say, while looking around to make sure everybody left. “You are to train me until Friday. The council is enforcing the Luna trials.” I say. Garret’s eyes go wide and Lucas gasps.
“Stupid outdated trials. They force Alarick to choose a Luna and now want to have a competition. Why not just do that in the first place?” Garret says angrily. Which took me by surprise. I didn’t think he would feel so strongly about it. I just shrug my shoulders.
“They probably aren’t happy with his choice of mate. They were probably hoping for him to choose a higher ranked she wolf.” I say and Lucas scoffs.
“Please tell me this isn’t a fight till death.” Lucas says with worry written over his face.
“Like I would have it any other way. You know me. My wolf and I will not submit to anyone.” I say looking at him and he lowers his gaze. I hear Garret sigh.
“Well let’s get started then.” Garret says as he walks to the middle of the field. Lucas follows behind us.
“You can leave Lucas, training is over.” Garret tells him. I feel Lucas’s irritation.
“With all due respect Gamma, I am staying.” He says which leaves no room for argument. I smirk at the stubbornness coming from him. Garret nods. Once we get to the center of the field Garret turns and looks at me. He gets into his stance.
“Are you ready? I’m not going to take it easy on you.” He says smirking at me.
“I wouldn’t expect anything less Gamma.” I say giving him a knowing smile.
We circle each other for a minute, each waiting for the other to attack first. He comes at me trying to throw a punch, I dodge and he tries to follow up with a kick. I anticipate his kick and block it. I sent my elbow to his face and hit him in the jaw. He stumbles back, but comes at me again. Before he could connect his fist to my side, I step over so he misses and stumbles. I turn and kick the back of his legs, making him fall face first on the ground. Once he is down I jump on his back and put him in a choke hold. He taps out after he realizes he won’t be able to get out.
He lays there for a minute gaining his breath. I reach out a hand to help him up and he takes it. We continue sparring for 30 minutes and each time I have him down in under a minute. After our last one I call it quits. He was able to hit me a couple of times, but he has a broken nose and a few cracked ribs. I didn’t mean to hit him that hard, but sometimes I get carried away.
“You don’t have to call it LeeAca, I’m fine.” He says out of breath. I got up to him and look at him guiltily.
“Let me fix your nose.” I say as I reach up to grab his bloody nose. He winces when I touch it and I send him some calm energy. It doesn’t do much for the pain, but it helps the mind from going into panic mode over being physically hurt. I place his nose back in place and take a step back. Lucas comes up and hands me a towel. I wipe my hands off and give it to Garret. He takes it and wipes the blood off his face.
“Alarick linked me during our training. He wants me to spend as much time training you as possible for the trials.” He says to me.
“As you can see, I am more than capable of fighting during the trials. I don’t need much training.” I say back to him.
“I am not saying you aren’t capable. Hell you just handed my ass multiple times, and I think you were holding back.. but if he finds out that I am not training you he will lose his sh*t.” He says to me. Fen huffs in annoyance. I look over to Lucas and smile slightly at him. He looks at me confused.
“Fine I will continue training, but right now you are sitting out. Lucas will tap in.” I say and Garret looks at Lucas, then back at me.
