Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 63 – His Replica Mate

“No, I thought it was best to explain everything in person. Her and Zeo are going to be so shocked. Does Zeo know about Freya?” I ask Leo.

“You know he doesn’t,” Leo replies.

“Oh, he’s going to be so pissed. You better get him a gift to calm him down,” I say, and I see Leo smirking in the side mirror.

“I’m confused,” Freya says.

“Okay, you know how people have a wife, but they also have a work wife?” I ask her.

“Yes,” she answers.

“Well, Zeo is Leo’s work wife,” I tell her.

“Ahh, I get it now. Lena’s right, Leo, you need to get him a gift to placate him for the bomb you’re about to drop on him,” Freya says.

“Okay, unless you both want to walk to the airstrip, I suggest you keep quiet,” Leo tells us.

“Ooh, touchy, touchy,” Freya says, and Leo snarls at her.

“Okay, I’m shutting up,” Freya says, raising her hands in surrender.

The rest of the car ride passes in comfortable silence. I must’ve fallen asleep because the next time I open my eyes, it’s to see Leo carrying me onto the plane and buckling me into my seat.

The next time I open my eyes, it’s to the sound of the pilot announcing that we’re now landing. It’s bright out, but not too bright, so I’m guessing it’s either late morning or early afternoon, which means the kids will be up, and that makes me smile.

“Let me guess, that smile is for your kids?” Freya asks me. I hadn’t even noticed that she was sitting across from me.

“Yes, it is. I’ve missed them, and we didn’t even stay longer than we planned to,” I tell her.

“There’s three of them, right?” she asks.

“Yes, Luke, Liam, and Karla,” I tell her.

“Well, I can’t wait to meet them,” she says.

“They’re going to be so excited. They haven’t been surrounded by this many adults before, and they have the ability to wrap you around their fingers,” I tell her.

“Well, if they’re as cute as you say they are, I already know I’m a goner,” she says, and I smile. My kids have been missing this all their lives-being surrounded by family. But I’m so happy they can have it now.

I glance over at the other side of the plane. Leo is there, his eyes closed, but I can tell he’s not sleeping by the way he’s breathing.

“He’s sleeping,” Freya tells me.

“Actually, no, he isn’t. He can’t sleep on planes. I have no idea why,” I tell her.

“Huh,” she says, but it looks like she’s thinking about something else.

“What is it?” I ask, and she shakes her head, blinking her eyes.

“Nothing, it’s nothing.”

Lena’s pov-

We get off the plane and say our thank you’s and goodbyes to Stefan, the pilot. Leo looks tired, but he’s doing a good job of hiding it-though I can see it.

“How about I drive?” I tell him, taking the keys from him before he can object.

“Thank you,” he says.

“No problem,” I reply.

He stays in the back, and Freya rides up front with me so Leo can get some shut-eye.

“He likes to act strong, never letting anyone see his weakness,” Freya says. “He gets that from his father. He had it drilled into him since he was a child, and now it’s second nature to him. I don’t think he even realizes it.”

“I never knew the man, and Leo never talked about him when we were together,” I tell her.

“Well, you’re lucky you didn’t,” she says. “He’s the reason Leo came to New Orleans in the first place. The things he’s told me about that man-some people are just pure evil. It’s a miracle Leo turned out the way he is. I know he’s no saint, but he does his best to change and grow, unlike his father.”

“That’s true. He’s kind and he’s good. That’s why all this is so hard for him. Because apart from being the Alpha, he actually cares about his people. So every person that gets sick, every person that dies-it chips away at him,” I tell her.

“Yeah, you’re right. You and I are going to get that cure for him,” she says, and it fills me with a sense of hope and determination.

“Yeah, we are.”

An hour and some minutes later, I’m driving through the gates of the pack.

“You haven’t been here before, right?” I ask Freya.

“No, but I’ve heard stories,” she tells me.

“Well, it might look different from what Leo has told you. There’s barely anyone outside, because they’re either in the clinic or hiding out in their houses. And there are weeds everywhere that no one has the time to tend to,” I explain to her.

“That’s so sad. This whole situation is just heartbreaking. Who would do this?” she asks.

“Well, that’s what we need to find out,” I tell her.

I drive to the house, not even bothering to go to Leo’s place in case Scarlett is there. I just don’t have the strength to deal with her right now.
