Chapter 63 – The Alpha She Does Not Care (Wynta & Jared) Novel

He and Creed were right, in their assessment of her, and they knew it. She’d had a Mate, and he’d rejected her because she was wolf-less, likely at 18; what an i***t, he thought to himself with a slight shake of the head.

“What rank was he?” his father pushed.

Wynta raised an eyebrow at his father, and he knew she wasn’t going to answer that question, she didn’t want to talk about it. Had never done so in the past five years, it was likely painful, and he didn’t think it wouldn’t matter what rank he was to her. No rejection was ever nice for anyone.

“Leave it, father,” he stated, “That is Wynta’s personal business. We’re also off-topic.” He brought them back to the most pressing; her being followed by an unknown wolf.

“Would you know if that wolf across from your apartment, belonged to that Alpha you saw?”

“No,” she looked at him and shook her head.

At least she was willing to answer their questions, and he put that down to her own need to be safe. “I think security is a good idea.” His father stated, “Unless, of course, you’re willing to come into the pack Wynta.”

She shook her head. “I don’t see a need, Edward; I like my life.”

“What about moving you to my apartment complex, where Jared and his unit live? There is a wolfen doorman, protection even though not a pack member.” his father offered.

She kind of just sat there for a long moment, and then her eyes moved to Jared, and he knew what she was thinking. He refrained from smiling at her, in his father’s presence, but he wanted to.

“Look, we don’t even know if it’s anything serious or not.” She shook her head, no. “I brought Jared down, I’m certain I can handle one warrior in the same manner. If it comes to that, I’m not moving, but if something else happens again, I’ll consider it,” she stated.

“Escorts to and from the office for now then,” his father stated, “Either a driver or Jared or one of his unit will walk you to and from.”

Jared frowned at his father. “And you think I don’t have better things to do, father?” he muttered.

“I told you, son. She’s your job to bring in now, so I see protecting her is part of that too. Be thankful I ain’t insisting she lives with you.”

“What?” Wynta blinked and stared at his father. “That ain’t going to happen.” She muttered, I’ll take the driver, thank you,” and she was up and walking from the office, like she’d been dismissed.

He saw his father lean back in his chair. “Ah, 1 to me finally.”

“What?” Jared frowned at him.

“I knew that threat would make her choose a driver.” His father chuckled. “Though I wasn’t kidding either,” he stated and waved Jared off. “Go, I got things to sort out.”

Wynta

She at in her office and wondered about what Edward had said, about that wolf maybe being Nolan’s, not that Edward would know who Nolan was. Did she really believe that Nolan would go out of his way to track her down? She didn’t think so.

They’d been over for a very long time, and she’d not once seen him since that day, though how he’d appeared on the weekend, he’d seemed happy to see her, and the way he’d raised a hand to her, called out to her. He’d not looked like a threat to her, it almost looked as if he was genuinely happy to see her.

She didn’t understand that in itself, and she’d certainly not given off that vibe to him. It should be very clear to him, for although she had looked at him, she’d not smiled or even nodded in acknowledgment. She hadn’t had any expression on her face, not even one of recognition, she’d actually played it off as she didn’t know who he was.

She didn’t understand why he would look at her like, let alone stick around the hotel where she had been holed up. He’d actually ruined her Saturday afternoon and night, she’d been planning on walking about and sitting out on her balcony to have a glass of wine and just relax under the full moon. But had ended up locked inside her room with the doors and windows all closed so he couldn’t smell her.

That happy smile on his face still confused her. They were rejected Mates, so he shouldn’t even want to ever acknowledge her, and certainly not around his unit. Who knew nothing. Well, she was willing to be Yale knew, seeing as what they’d tried to do to her.

Yet again, another reason he shouldn’t ever want to run into her. She could out him for what he and Yale had done all those years ago, say it in front of his unit to make him go away. Hell, she could tell them she’d rejected him and not the other way around.

She didn’t know why he’d not just ignored the fact that he’d seen her, he and his Beta should never want to come across her ever again. She shook her head, she was having a hard time concentrating now, because she’d not actually asked Jared the question she wanted an answer to: what did that wolf’s pack smell like.

She looked at her phone and wondered if she texted him the question. Would he answer it without asking any questions in return? She needed to know because the more she thought about her past, and her rejection of Nolan in itself, she did recall that he’d not been mad about her issuing it, he’d just frowned at her, as though he didn’t understand why she’d voiced it so easily.

Then had accepted it, but followed that up with they would come back to it in a year when he got home. Maybe he’d just been undecided, but because she’d laid it all for him, maybe he’d just accepted it. But he had also thought that after a year away, it would allow her to calm down, he could apologize and prove he wasn’t like that, that she could see her way to accepting him. She shook it off. Who the hell knew? Not her.
