“Do you want to train? We still have a couple hours left. It will help to get your mind off of things.” I say. He looks at me and nods his head. We head back to our training grounds and start to work on weaponry. We work on throwing and different moves with different weapons. The last hour we start to spar. It gets bloody, but in the end he submits. Right after we say goodnight he hugs me. It surprised me because we have never hugged. He is holding onto me like I am his life line.
I hold him until he pulls back.
“Thank you for everything you have done for me.” He says with tears in his eyes. I feel a deep love and gratitude from him. I smile and hug him again, then shuffle his hair.
“Anytime kiddo.” I say and he scrunches his face at the name I called him. I start to laugh.
“Please, don’t ever call me that again.” He says and I laugh at how serious he is.
“Anything for you kid.” I say and turn around he huffs and as I am walking back I hear him yell.
“Not that either.” I laugh and continue walking.
When I get back to the apartment I take a shower and get ready for the day. I have a day planned for Maleena. She doesn’t know it yet, but I am taking her to the mall to get anything she wants. We are going to go get our hair done and have a good lunch. All the kids have today and tomorrow off for the Luna Challenge. The council wants everybody there to celebrate whoever wins. I haven’t talked to Maleena much since she found out about the Luna Challenge. She resents me because in her eyes I could put a stop to this. Essentially, I could, but Fen and I know that he will reject us as soon as he finds out. He doesn’t want a mate and neither do we. If he rejects us though, Fen is convinced we will die or go mad. That is not a risk that I am willing to take. I will not be the reason for innocent people’s death.
After my shower, I look at the clock. It is 6:00, I walk out of my room to see Redna walking in the apartment with the food I requested. I am going to be making breakfast. I help Redna with the bags then start to place the food on the counter.
“Thank you.” I say to Redna.
“Of course! Do you need help cooking? I have some talent in the kitchen.” She said to me.
“Sure. If you’re not busy. You could help by washing the fruit and cutting it for me.” I say and she smiles.
“Goddess, yes. Anything to get away from the dictator downstairs.” She says.
“Are you talking about Ms. Louise?” I ask slightly confused.
“Yes! She has been freaking out all week about all of the people coming for the Challenge tomorrow. Plus with Alena planning Maleena’s party tonight the dictator went from 10 to 100.” She says.
“Oh goddess. That is frustrating. Who all is supposed to be here?” I ask her. I haven’t talked much about it. A lot of people are avoiding the topic with me.
“All the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma families are required. The rest of the people are whoever wants to come. There are whole packs coming. It’s the smaller ones, but still. The dictator is making it seem like every werewolf alive will be here.” She rambles. My eyes widened a little. Whole packs? I knew that it was mandatory for the higher ups, but I didn’t realize that whole packs would be coming.
“Wow, that is quite a bit. Are they coming because they want to be in the challenge?” I ask, trying to get more information out of her. She chuckles awkwardly and looks around.
“I’m not going to lie, A LOT of women wanted to challenge you when they first heard about it, but once they realized it was fight till death they backed out. I only know of one who still plans on challenging you and it is one of the warriors that trains us. A lot of people don’t know if you can fight, so I know quite a few are still talking about it, but I am positive that when the time comes they will not hesitate to keep standing in their place.” She says rambling again.
“Thank you Red. Nobody else will talk to me about this. I appreciate you.” I say to her and she nods her head. After 30 minutes Maleena comes walking out of her room with her pajamas and bed head.
“Good morning.” I say as I flip a pancake over.
“Mornin.” She says and sits down on the barstool. “You’re making breakfast?” She asks me.
“Yes. I got it all. My pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, fruit, potatoes, and french toast casserole.” I said to her. I see her eyes light up.
“Is it just for us? Or are there more people joining? That is a lot of food.” She says.
“Did you want more people to join us?” I ask, and I see the thoughts in her head.
“No. That’s fine. Red you can stay if you want. You’re already here.” Maleena says, looking towards Redna.
“Wow.” Redna says, placing a hand over her heart. “I don’t even have words for how honored I feel that you would request me. ME. Of all people to join you for breakfast. And that invitation was just so beautiful, it almost brought tears to my eyes.” She says being over dramatic. She takes a napkin and blots her eyes like she was crying and sniffles. I chuckle at her antics and Maleena picks up one of the cubed potatoes and throws it at her.
“Hey. That wasn’t very nice for someone who just poured their whole heart out to me to ask me to stay for breakfast.” Redna says, while picking up the potato and throwing it back at Maleena. Before there is an all out war between the two I chime in.
“Maleena I have some things planned for the day so get ready. You got 30 minutes before breakfast is ready.” I say and she stops mid throw of what looks like a strawberry and plops it in her mouth. She hops off the chair and runs to her room. After the food is done we all eat, then start cleaning before we leave. I am mid stride when I hear a knock at the door. I look at the clock and it is 8:15. Confused as to why I smell him, I go to the door and answer it. I feel his irritation and worry lessen a little when he sees me. He is just standing there staring at me.
“Alarick?” I ask and he shakes his head.
“Why are you not at training?” He asks and Fen and I get irritated.
“I am spending the day with Maleena.” I say like he should know this. He looks at me in confusion then I see his eyes widen slightly in realization, but I can still feel the irritation he is emitting.
