“Of course, Alpha. I’m happy to help. But there is another thing. I know you didn’t ask me to do this, but I couldn’t help myself. I tried to find out who the guy was, but I couldn’t,” he says.
“That’s okay, Elijah. I don’t need to know who he is,” I reply. Because if I do, I’m going to find him and kill him. And it’s not because I still love her. No, it’s the principle of it.
“No, you don’t understand, Alpha Leo. I couldn’t find him. It’s like he doesn’t exist,” he says, and that gets my attention.
“What do you mean?” I ask him.
“The man isn’t human. He’s a werewolf. So, I ran his picture through the shifter database in New York, but I didn’t get a hit. I expanded my search, and still no hit,” he continues.
“Which made me even more curious. So, I went back to the video to see if I could find any identifying markers on him, and I did,” he says. He then takes his laptop and brings up a picture.
“I noticed that he had a birthmark on his back, and it looked really familiar, but I couldn’t remember where I had seen it before-until now,” he continues, then brings up the picture of the birthmark.
“If I’m not mistaken, Alpha Leo, you have this same birthmark in the same spot,” he tells me.
I can’t believe my eyes. It is the same birthmark. “Yes, I do. But what does this mean?” I ask him.
“Well, I did some research and asked around. This birthmark is particular to your family-the Knight family. It appears the same time your wolf comes out for the first time,” he explains.
“No, that’s not possible. Because if what you’re saying is true, then you’re telling me that this man sleeping with my wife is my brother?” I ask him.
“Yes, Alpha. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what I’m saying,” he replies.
Alpha Leo’s POV
I don’t even know when I start laughing, but I can’t control it. Fate must be playing a very sick joke on me because how much can a guy take before he just gives up and goes mad? No, really, I want to know.
First, I was cursed with a hateful father, and then fate saw fit to take my mother away from me. Then, I was blessed with a mate-that’s Scarlett-but she leaves me to marry another man. Then, I find another mate in Selene, and Scarlett comes back. At the time, I didn’t know it, but I made the wrong decision of choosing Scarlett and rejecting Selene. My marriage to Scarlett is horrible, and then my pack is cursed with an incurable disease.
Now, the only person who can help with the cure is Selene, the same woman I rejected six years ago. She returns with my kids, who don’t know that I’m their father. And now, I find out that Selene was the right choice all along, and one stupid decision has derailed my life.
But that’s not all. It turns out the person behind the disease might just be a member of my pack. And now, to top it all off, I have a long-lost brother who is sleeping with my wife.
No, really, how much more am I supposed to take? What exactly did I do in a previous life that fate has decided to punish me like this?
“Elijah, you have a new assignment. I need you to find everything-and I mean everything-you can about this guy. I want to know everything, down to the type of shampoo he uses. That’s how thorough I want you to be,” I tell him.
“Of course, Alpha. I’ll get right on it. But I also need your help. If there’s anything your father left behind that might be related to him, and you find it, that would be a great help to me,” he says.
I’ve kept my father’s room and office locked up ever since he died. I didn’t want to go in there, but I also didn’t want anyone else packing up his things. But now, I guess I’m going to have to.
“Of course, if I find anything, I’ll let you know. Elijah, I need some information by tomorrow,” I tell him so that he knows how urgent this is.
“I understand, Alpha,” he says.
“Good. I take it you made a copy of that video?” I ask him.
“Yes, I did,” he says, then reaches into his pocket, pulls out a flash drive, and hands it to me.
“Thank you, Elijah. You’ve been extremely helpful. You can leave now,” I tell him.
He packs up his laptop, gets up, bows his head, then walks out and leaves the house.
“Are you alright, Leo?” Zeo asks me.
“I am the farthest thing from alright, Zeo. The farthest. I just want to know if there’s an end to all of this, because I can take it. I can take all the shit that’s been thrown at me as long as there’s an end to it. If not, what’s the point?” I ask him.
“There is an end, okay? There is an end. Everything is going to work out. So, what are you going to do about Scarlett?” he asks.
“After we’re done in the city, I’ll call her home. She’s the only one who has answers on who that man is because they seemed way too familiar in that video. That wasn’t their first time-or even their fifth time,” I tell him.
“What if she isn’t forthcoming with the information?” he asks.
“Then I’ll just have to find other ways to get the information out of her,” I reply.
“Leo, do not let your anger make you do something you’ll regret. The plan was to get evidence so you can finally be rid of her. How about you just stick to the plan?” he tells me. I get that he’s trying to be reasonable, but I’m not hearing any of that right now. I’m just filled with so much anger. I thought when I finally found the evidence, I would feel relief, but the anger is overshadowing the relief.
“Okay, why don’t you change into a suit for the office so we can leave?” I say.
“Okay, I’ll be down soon.” He gets up, walks towards me, squeezes my shoulder, then leaves to go upstairs to his room.
I let out a huge breath as I flip the flash drive from finger to finger. I’ve always been a firm believer in not hurting women; they are treasures and should be treated as such. But when it comes to Scarlett, if she doesn’t answer my questions when she gets to this house, all bets are off. Because I’m going to make her feel unimaginable pain-pain like she hasn’t felt before-if she doesn’t tell me the truth.
I take out my phone and dial my lawyer.
“Good morning, Mr. Knight,” he greets me.
“Good morning, Alfred. I need you to draw up divorce papers,” I tell him.
“Are you sure, Mr. Knight?” he asks.
“Yes, I am, and I need it sent over by tomorrow morning. Will that be possible?” I ask him.
“Yes, that shouldn’t be a problem. But you are aware that a prenuptial agreement isn’t in place-you opted out of it. However, there is a postnuptial, so that should hold up fine in court if she wants to contest it,” he tells me. I groan. God, I was such an idiot. I don’t know how he did it, but Zeo told the lawyers to draw up a postnuptial agreement after he found out there was no prenuptial agreement, and he made me and Scarlett sign it.
If not for that agreement, with this divorce, she could take half of everything I owned. I seriously don’t know how I’m ever going to make it up to Zeo.
“That’s good news. So, just send them over tomorrow, and I’ll print them out,” I tell him.
