“Okay, do you need me to be present?” he asks.
“No, not at this time,” I reply.
“Okay, Mr. Knight, I’ll start drafting up the papers. Have a good day,” he says, and then he cuts the call.
“Who was that?” I hear Zeo ask, and I look up to see that he’s all dressed up.
“Well, don’t you look sharp and dapper. That was the lawyer. I called him so he can start drafting the divorce papers,” I tell him.
“Okay, that’s a good idea. But what about the contract between both our packs?” he asks.
“I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. Now, let’s go.”
Lena’s POV
After the guys leave, the three of us remain at the table, and Zoey and Freya have been getting along just as I expected.
“You know, I really wish you had caught her throwing Leo around on video. It would add to my ammo when I’m making fun of him,” Zoey tells Freya.
“Yeah, that would’ve been nice, to have something over him, get him to do whatever we want,” Freya replies.
The next thing I know, I hear the sound of little feet running toward the dining room.
“Here they come,” Zoey says, and Freya looks confused.
“Mama!” Karla screams as she launches herself at me, and I carry her up and sit her on my lap.
Liam decides that the table is now his chair and climbs up, sitting down in the middle of the table. I’m not going to complain-at least he’s sitting.
“Are you done with your meeting? Can we have our gifts now?” Luke asks.
“Yeah, boss man said he got us gifts too,” Liam tells me.
“Okay, calm down. The gifts are in that car. But first, I want to introduce you guys to someone. She’s been waiting to meet you. This is Freya. She’s Leo’s sister, but do you want to know something else? She’s also a witch,” I tell them, and they all look astonished, including Luke.
“Whoa, so are you a good witch or a bad witch?” Liam asks her.
“She’s not a bad witch, Liam. She’s not green,” Karla tells her brother, and that makes everyone at the table giggle.
“Huh, guess you’re right,” Liam says.
“Well, I am a good witch. And you want to know something? Not all bad witches are green like the ones you see on TV,” Freya says, and they all get that astonished look again. But then I look at Karla, and her eyes are closed, and she’s taking deep breaths.
“Karla, baby, are you okay?” I ask her.
“I’m fine, Mama. I was just checking if Aunt Freya was telling the truth, and she is,” Karla says with a huge grin on her face, but I’m confused.
“And how do you know that she’s telling the truth, sweet girl?” I ask her.
“Because I can hear her heartbeat, Mama, and Uncle Zeo taught me how to tell when someone is lying or telling the truth by listening to their heartbeat,” she says, grinning even wider.
My baby’s abilities are coming in, and she got the first one without me even knowing. I look at Zoey, and she nods her head to confirm. I can’t help the tears that well up in my eyes. I’m happy and proud of my little girl, but at the same time, I’m also sad that I wasn’t here when it happened.
“Why are you crying, Mama?” Karla asks as she wipes the tears from my face.
“These are happy tears, baby. I’m just really happy and proud of you,” I tell her, and she gives me that big toothy grin that lights up the room.
“When are we going to get our own abilities, Mama?” Luke asks.
“Everyone is different, baby. Just give it time. But since your sister has started getting hers, I’m sure you and your brother’s abilities will start showing up soon,” I tell him, and he seems satisfied with that answer.
“Okay, how about I take you kids to the car so you can go and get your gift? How does that sound?” Freya asks them.
They all scream in excitement and run to the door.
“Thank you,” I tell Freya. I’m sure she must’ve seen that I needed a minute. She takes the keys from me and takes the kids outside.
“Lena, I swear I was going to tell you,” Zoey says.
“When did it happen?” I ask her.
“The day you left. That night, she woke up crying. I asked her what was wrong, and she said someone was playing drums in her head and that she was hearing water, like a whoosh sound. I didn’t understand what was happening, so I went to get Zeo. Then she described what was happening to him, and he just smiled. He took her downstairs, and I made her some hot cocoa. Then Zeo explained to her what was happening. He was really good with her; she wasn’t scared anymore. Then he taught her some breathing techniques, and she said the noises disappeared. That’s when he taught her how to listen for when someone is telling the truth or if it’s a lie.”
Then he proceeded to tell her that everything was going to be okay, and she listened to his heart, realizing that he was telling the truth. We all had a sleepover in your room that night-the kids were on the bed, and Zeo and I were on the floor.”
“You already felt bad for leaving them. I didn’t want to tell you something like that over the phone. I swear I wasn’t trying to keep this from you,” she tells me.
“Oh, Zoey, of course I know you weren’t trying to keep this from me. I’m just sad and mad at myself that I wasn’t here for it. But I’m glad she had you and Zeo. Because the both of you handled it the same way I would have. I wouldn’t change a thing. Thank you,” I say as I squeeze her hands across the table.
“There’s something you need to know, Zoey. You aren’t just the kids’ aunt or godmother; you’re basically their second parent. They completely trust you, and whatever decisions you make when it comes to them, I trust as well,” I tell her.
“Thank you, Lena. I really appreciate that,” she says.
“Did your abilities ever come this fast? I mean, they’re only five. They haven’t even turned six yet,” she adds.
“I know, my abilities didn’t come until I got my wolf, but their father is an Alpha from a very strong bloodline, so that might explain it,” I reply.
“I will ask Freya though, if she has any thoughts,” I tell her.
