Chapter 69 – His Replica Mate

“Yeah, that’s a good idea. Now, before those gremlins get back, how about you tell me what you’ve been hiding?” she says.

“Hiding? I’m not hiding anything,” I respond.

“Don’t lie to me, Lena. I’ve known you long enough to tell when you’re lying. Now, something else happened in that club that you’re not telling me. What is it?” she presses.

“Well…”

“I’ll drop you off at the office first. You know what you need to do, right?” I ask him.

“Yes, I’ll ask the secretary for the delivery logs from the past six months and also check the CCTV feeds,” he replies.

“Good. Then I’ll head to the courier’s office. When I get the information I need, I’ll head back and help you out in the office,” I tell him.

“Okay, that sounds like a plan,” he says. A few minutes later, we arrive at the building, and he gets out. I stay there for a few minutes, staring at the building and what it represents. It symbolizes what Zeo and I have accomplished after years of hard work, and now someone in that building is trying to bring everything down.

I enter the address for the courier company, and the GPS says it’s just fifteen minutes away. I check the directions and drive there.

I park my car and get out. The office is on the second floor of a high-rise building, so instead of taking the elevator, I take the stairs since the walk isn’t too much.

I enter the office, and it’s a hive of activity-riders coming in and out with packages. I walk up to the receptionist desk.

“Good morning, miss,” I greet her with my best charming smile, and it seems to work because I can see the attraction in her eyes.

“Good morning, sir. How may I help you?” she asks.

“Call me Leo. I’d like to see your manager, please. It’s about a package that was delivered to my company. It’s very important,” I tell her.

“Okay, maybe I can help. What’s the name of the company?” she asks.

“No, I don’t think you can. I really need to see your manager. The name of the company is Knight Corp,” I reply, and her eyes widen, her cheeks turning red.

“Oh my God, you’re Leo Knight, like, from Knight Corp,” she says. This is what always happens with girls-once they figure out who I am, they turn into something else, and it’s not attractive at all.

“Yes, that’s me. So, can you do me a favor and tell your manager I’m here to see him and point me to his office?” I tell her.

“Of course, Mr. Knight. Lucky for you, Mr. Andrews has an opening. I’ll show you to his office,” she tells me.

“Alright then, lead the way,” I reply. She steps out from behind her desk, and I follow her as she leads me to the manager’s office. I can’t help but notice how she catwalks, making sure to highlight her assets. It makes me smile, because years ago, I might’ve shoved her into a bathroom or a closet, fucked her brains out, and completely forgotten about her. But now, things like that don’t even move me.

We arrive at an office at the end of the hallway, with frosted glass. She knocks, then opens the door.

“Mr. Andrews, you have Mr. Knight here to see you,” she announces, then walks out of the office, brushing past me as she does.

“Mr. Knight, to what do I owe the pleasure?” he asks, extending his hand to shake mine.

“Sorry for coming here unannounced, but something urgent has come up, and I was hoping you could help me,” I tell him.

“Of course, please take a seat. I’d be more than happy to help in any way I can. Your company brings me a lot of business,” he replies.

“I’m happy to hear that,” I respond.

“So, what is this urgent problem?” he asks.

“Well, about six months ago, a package was delivered to my office. The package was supposed to be for me, but I never got it. The truth is, I’ve been so busy putting out so many fires that I actually forgot about it. But when I remembered, I called my friend who was supposed to send it, and he told me he sent it six months ago. I asked him how he sent it, and he said he used your courier service. Now, my business partner is at my company going through the sign-in sheets, but I thought it might be faster if I came here. I need to know who signed for that package. It’s very important, and in the wrong hands, bad things could happen,” I explain to him.

“I apologize for that, Mr. Knight, but you know we just deliver the package to the office. What happens after that is out of our hands,” he tells me.

“Yes, I do know that, and I’m in no way blaming you or your company. I just need to find out who signed for the package,” I tell him.

“Okay, that’s no problem. Where was the package sent from?” he asks.

“From New Orleans,” I tell him.

“And you say this was about six months ago?” he asks.

“Yes, that’s right. It didn’t weigh much; it was like a document,” I reply.

“Okay, just give me a few minutes while I check,” he says as he types on his computer.

“No problem,” I tell him.

“I’ve got it,” he says a few moments later.

“Okay, who signed for it?” I ask him.

“Are you sure you didn’t receive this package, Mr. Knight?” he asks, looking at me like I’m a crazy person.

“Yes, I’m sure. Who signed for the package?” I ask again.

“Well, according to this, it seems like you did, Mr. Knight,” he says, then turns his computer screen toward me. Staring back at me is my own signature.

“That is your signature, isn’t it, Mr. Knight?” he asks.

“Yes, it is.”
