“Lucas.” I say as I near the door. He looks up to me and nods.
“Your highness. There are only three people allowed to visit Ace at a time. Right now Maleena, Sebastian, and Luna Laura are in there. I am pretty sure they are almost done.” He says and I get a little irritated. After about 5 minutes Laura comes out and smiles weakly to Lucas, when she spots me waiting her eyes widen, then she bows her head. I nod to her and start to walk in when Laura’s voice stops me.
“Your highness. I mean no disrespect, but I don’t think LeeAca is up for any more visitors.” She says which angers me and I turn around.
“She is my mate. Mate’s help each other heal, do they not?” I ask her through gritted teeth. She cowers away a little and just nods her head. I turn around and walk in to LeeAca’s room. I see her sister and brother on each sides of her, holding her hand. I try my best not to get jealous. That should be my spot. I look to her beautiful face and I sigh. She is alright.
“Your highness.. You really should not be here.” Maleena speaks up and it surprises me, then anger me.
“I am her mate. She needs me to help her heal.” I say, while giving her a pointed look. She shares a look with Sebastian and before anybody could say anything LeeAca’s eyes snap open, and quickly turn to the glowing green eyes of her wolf. She lets out a loud growl, while staring at me. Then her eyes roll back and she starts seizing. Sebastian gets up and runs for the door. As soon as he is up I go to his spot.
“Alarick n..” I heard Maleena say, but before she could finish, I grabbed LeeAca’s hand, never taking my eyes off of her beautiful face. As soon as I grab her hand, I feel the sparks. Then her body starts jerking wildly, like people are pulling from different sides of her. Before I could really register what was going on I felt arms lifting me up and dragging me out of the room. The only reason they could do that was because I was in shock. Did I make her do that? Before the door closed I saw that LeeAca’s wild jerks turned into shakes. I saw her brother place a hand on her and she stopped shaking all together. I look around to see Lucas, Maleena, and Laura standing in the hall, with Alpha Jonah running down the hall.
“What the hell just happened?” I asked them while looking down at my hand. I still felt the tingly of the sparks that erupted when I grabbed LeeAca’s hand. Nobody answers me. I look up towards them and they all have their heads down, even Jonah who just arrived at his mates side.
“Maleena.” I say with a warning tone. “Why did she react that way to me? You told me that I shouldn’t have been in there, like you knew that would happen.” I gritted out, trying to hide my pain and anger that is flaring. She looks up at me and lets out a small exhale.
“I didn’t know anything would happen and it is not for anyone to tell, except LeeAca. It is her business.” She says and I all but lose it. She dares defy me. She dares not answer my question, before I could explode the Doctor comes out and immediately bows her head. My aura is seeping out.
“Your.. Your Highness. It seems as though Luna suffered from a seizure. It. It has set her. Her healing time back.” The doctor stutters.
“Thank you. You may leave.” I tell her and she all but runs away. Once she is gone I look to the people in front of me and let out my aura in full. They are all bowing their heads and I can smell the fear they have.
“One of you better start talking now.” I grit out as I look at all of them. When my eyes land on Lucas I pause. I don’t smell fear on him. Before I could question him Maleena speaks up.
“You are her second chance, right?” She asks and I huff. Of course I knew that. She is my second chance, so I have to be hers. That is how it works.
“Only an idiot would not know that.” I say irritated and she nods her head then looks me in the eyes. Normally that would be a sign of disrespect, but I can tell that she means no disrespect.
“Then if you connect the dots we wouldn’t have told you anything and she can’t be upset with us.” She says, raising her eyebrow.
“Connect what dots?” I say, trying not to get irritated with her.
“You ask us why it happened. Well she obviously doesn’t trust the mate bond and you are her second chance mate.” She says as if trying to spell it out for me. It takes a second, but then it hits me.
“Her first mate did something to make her not trust the mate bond. Now she doesn’t want a mate.” I say and she smirks and nods her head a little. I run a hand down my face, I just wanted to see her, to feel her, to inhale her scent. But I can’t or it will set back her healing. I just nod my head numbly and start to walk back to the castle. Onin is whimpering and my head is full of questions. What did her last mate do that was so wrong? Who was her first mate? All these questions reeling in my head as I make my way towards my room to get a sleepless night.
Lucas’s POV
After the King left everybody took a deep breath. I feel their uneasiness for not telling the King what they knew about LeeAca. I don’t even know what they know about her. It is like some unspoken thing that what we know doesn’t come out, like a secret that we don’t know who else knows. We all go into the hospital room to check on her, even though 3 people are allowed, we don’t care. When I walk in, I see Sebastion by LeeAca’s side with his hand on hers. He looks up tiredly at us.
“I am staying the night here to ensure she will actually sleep. I will be sending her peaceful energy all night so that, hopefully, she doesn’t have any nightmares.” He said and we all nodded our heads. Everybody bids them goodnight and we all head back to the castle. After Maleena and I bid goodnight to Alpha Jonah and Luna Laura we went upstairs to the apartment.
I go over to my bag that I packed this morning and grab a black hoodie and black pants. I change and then grab the scent eliminating spray LeeAca gave me.
“What are you doing?” Maleena asks me when she comes out of the bathroom.
“I need to take the girls to a safe place where their families can’t find them.” I say and she nods her head in understanding. I feel that she is worried and sad.
“Can I come with you?” She asks in a small, but hopeful voice. I sigh.
“Maleena you can’t. You need to stay here with your sister.” I say trying to make it sound like she can’t come. In reality she can, but I can’t have her distracting me. I also don’t think she knows about the rogue camp, so I can’t risk LeeAca being upset if her sister finds out.
“I understand..” She says not fully convinced, but she doesn’t fight me on it.
“Could you show me where the girls are hiding? After that you can come back here and get some well needed rest.” I say and she nods her head and heads out of the door. I follow her to one of the safe bunkers we have for women and children during an attack. She opens the door and I see the two women from the fight today. I feel their fear and I can see that they have small bags with them.
“I had maids sneak into their rooms they were staying in and grab some of their things. I also made sure that they had dinner. There is a bag there with some water and snacks.” She says pointing to a bag in the corner. I nod and pull her in for a hug. She snuggles closer to me as if she doesn’t want me to leave.
“You are perfect.” I say and bring my lips to hers.
“I love you.” She says and I smile.
