Peter smirked. “Well, well. Look who’s back. You two were gone for quite a while.”
Leon grinned wickedly. “Did you guys just have a quickie in the bathroom? Because Sable’s hair is definitely messed up.”
3 felt Sables cheeks heat up next to me. She smoothed down her hair self-consciously.
We were just talking. 1 said flatly
Peter raised his wine glass “Well, whatever you were doing. I think a toast is in order.
“To Cacian and Sobir??engagement tumorit Leus joined in. lifting his glass “May your union be long, happy, and filled with many little future alphas!”
Scarlett laughed To have competing will
We clinked glasses around the table. The wine warmed my that, but what sight of Sables genuine smile,
You know, Peter said, settling back in ho chair with a pin Tver thought the day when someone wouht tame the great Lycan King
Leon nodded enthusiastically. Thus wild beat her finally met his match!
He pointed at me with ho fork balde, you have on ide but you in diving for all of the you know how much more pleasant he is to be around now?
Before you came along, he was all boosting and intimidating Peter made a raggerated serious face. Now look at him. He actually smiles!”
I rolled my eyes. “I was never that bad.”
“Oh, you absolutely were, Scarlett chimed in. Remember when you banned Christmas decorations because they were frivolous?
“That was one time-
“Or when you made that poor intern cry because he brought you the wrong coffee? Leon added.
Sable looked at me with raised eyebrows. “Really?”
“He brought me decaf,” I muttered.
Peter leaned toward Sable conspiratorially. “The point is, you’ve transformed our grumpy king into an actual human being. But with great power comes great responsibility.”
His expression grew mock-serious. “You must promise to treat this lovesick fool well. His entire emotional wellbeing now rests in your hands.”
“It’s absolutely true,” Scarlett interrupted. “But honestly, guys, I think you’ve got it backwards.”
She turned to me with a pointed look. “Sable is the one you need to treasure here. She’s brilliant, kind, beautiful, and you’re incredibly lucky she chose you.”
“Thank you! Sable laughed.
“I mean, really,” Scarlett continued, warming to her theme. “She saves lives for a living while you just boss people around all day.”
‘I do more than boss people around,” I said dryly.
“Do you, though?” Peter grinned. “Because from where I’m sitting, your main job seems to be following Sable around with heart eyes.”
Leon clutched his chest dramatically. “Our fearsome leader, reduced to a lovesick puppy!”
I was about to deliver what I hoped would be a withering comeback when Sable suddenly stood up.
“You know what?” she said, her voice taking on a determined edge. “You’re all right.”
Before I could react, she moved around the table and planted herself directly in my lap.
“Sabi, what are you-
She silenced me by grabbing my face in both hands and kissing me firmly on the mouth. Right there in front of everyone.
The table erupted in cheers and wolf whistles.
When she pulled back, her eyes sparkled with mischief. “This one’s mine,’ she announced to the table. Anyone who has a problem with that can take it up with me.”
I stared at her, completely stunned by this sudden display of possessiveness. Then I broke into the biggest grin of my life.
“Yes, ma’am,’ I said, wrapping my arms around her waist. “Whatever you say, ma’am.”
She giggled and kissed me again, shorter this time but no less determined.
“Oh my God,” Leon wheezed, wiping tears from his eyes. I can’t breathe. The Lycan King just said yes ma am like an obedient little puppy!”
Peter was laughing so hard he could barely speak. This is the best thing I’ve ever seen!”
Scarlett clapped her hands in delight. “Sable, you’re my new hero!
Sable settled more comfortably in my lap, looking incredibly pleased with herself. ‘Good. Now everyone knows where we stand.”

I nuzzled her neck, not caring that we had an audience. “Absolutely, my queen. Your wish is my command.”
“Stop it,” she laughed, pushing at my chest.
“You started it, I murmured against her ear. “Marking your territory in front of witnesses.”
Her cheeks flushed pink, but she didn’t move from my lap. “Well, someone had to put these troublemakers in their place.”
“Mission accomplished, Leon said, raising his glass again. “To the future queen who can make our king say yes ma’am’ without breaking a sweat!”
Sable’s POV
Today was the day. My engagement day.
Dad had insisted I return to Crawford Manor for the pre-engagement preparations, claiming it was pack tradition for a daughter to ready herself in her family home before such an important ceremony.
I’d been awake since dawn, my stomach a tangle of nerves and excitement that made eating breakfast impossible. The ceremony was set for tonight in the forest clearing on Blackwood territory – a sacred space near the lake where generations of Lycan royalty had exchanged vows under the moonlight.
I’d spent the whole day at Crawford Manor getting ready, with Elena Milano’s team arriving early to help me prepare. Daisy had been bouncing around my room all day, too excited to contain herself, chattering nonstop about flower petals and pretty dresses.
Dad. Victoria and Mary had left an hour ago to oversee the final preparations at the ceremony site, leaving just Daisy and me in the quiet manor. Now, as evening shadows stretched across the grounds and the first stars appeared, Caelan had arrived to escort us to the ceremony. It was finally time.
“Sabi… you’re so beautiful I can barely breathe.”
Caelan’s voice came from the hallway as I stepped out of my bedroom. He stood waiting by the staircase, but the moment his eyes found mine, his entire body went rigid. His dark gaze swept from my face down to the custom ivory silk gown, lingering where the fitted bodice accentuated my curves before the fabric pooled around my feet.
I bit my lower lip, suddenly self-conscious under his intense stare. “Is it too much?”
“Too much?” His voice came out rough, gravelly. “Sabi, you’re going to kill me before we even make it through the ceremony.”
One long stride brought him close enough that I could smell his scent. His hands settled on my waist, pulling me against him until I could feel the rapid beat of his heart through his dress shirt.
“Is that so?” I teased, trailing my fingers up his chest. “And what would you rather be doing instead?”
His eyes darkened as he dipped his head, lips barely brushing the shell of my ear. “Skip all these elaborate formalities and take you straight back to my room…”
I shivered as his breath tickled my skin.
“While you’re still wearing this gorgeous dress,” he murmured, “I want to slowly peel it off you and worship every inch of-
“Wait!”
A tiny voice cut through the charged atmosphere like a blade. We sprang apart just as Daisy came barreling toward us, clutching a small white daisy in het pudgy fist.
The little girl skidded to a stop between us, one small hand planted firmly on her hip in a gesture so adult it was almost comical.
“It’s not time for kissing yet! She waggled the flower at Caelan like a tiny weapon.
Caelan’s lips twitched as he fought back laughter. My apologies, Princess Daisy. I got a little… carried away.
“That’s better.” She nodded with all the gravity of a supreme court judge, then turned toward me. Caelan, remember, you have to wait until the official part before you can kiss my Sabelate!
I pressed my hand to my mouth to muffle a giggle.
Daisy stepped closer to Caelan, craning her neck back to meet his gaze.
