“She would kill me. She has killed family before. Family means nothing to her if she is disrespected. Especially in this state.” She said glancing to LeeAca’s retreating figure. I could feel the atmosphere change after her statement. Sh*t, it made my blood run cold. Had LeeAca actually killed family before?
LeeAca’s POV
As I walked through the castle I could feel everybody’s eyes on me. I ignored them and walked to my apartment. When I walk towards my bedroom I see that the door is half off its hinges and my room is a mess. There are drawers open and clothes and books are all over the place. I huff in annoyance and pick some clothes off the floor and a towel that I know are clean and head to the bathroom. I close the door and look in the mirror and sigh. I am covered in dry blood from head to toe, making my green eyes look brighter than they are. I turn and start the shower, emptying my mind from the thoughts. Numb that is all I am. I feel nothing. I step in the shower and take a good 45 minutes cleaning all of the dirt and blood from my body. I step out of the shower and dry off, changing into my clothes. After I towel dry my hair I open the bathroom door and walk out into my room. I look around feeling somebody else’s presence there and a person I haven’t seen since the last time I infiltrated a hunter’s lab.
“LeeAca. Good thing I came when you were decent this time.” Keenan says. He says as he turns around. I see his glowing violet eyes. He is lean and tall, with long dirty blonde hair. As always he has a smile when greeting me. I roll my eyes and smile at him.
“Yea good thing.” I chuckle. “You ready?” I ask as I go over to put a pair of my boots on. I look over to see that he is staring at me reluctantly. “What?” I ask looking over to him.
I have a message from Mother Selene. He says and I smile at him as encouragement to continue.
“You know I get creeped out when you smile like that. Don’t do that.” He says and I roll my eyes.
“Just spit it out and stop avoiding what you need to tell me.” I say with a raised eyebrow. He sighs and comes over to sit next to me.
“You need to give your mate a chance. She has given him to you for a reason.” He says and I outright laugh at him.
“This has to be a joke right?” I ask and his look tells me he is not. Fen snorts in my head. “No way am I giving that mutt a “chance”.” She says and I look down and sigh.
“Weren’t all the others supposed to be a reason too? Why all of a sudden does she care what happens with my mates?” I growl out. Keenan is not phased at this and just puts his hand on my knee to show that he understands.
“I know this is frustrating. Hell I have stood by and watched as you deal with everything LeeAca. I am just as upset about this as you are. But she told me that everything you have endured, with the hunters has messed with her pairing the mate bonds. You are not the only one who has had more than two mates. She is not sure how it is possible, but your second chance mate was always supposed to be Alarick. Not the one that led you to the forest.” He says as he looks at me.
“That is bullsh*t and you know it. Just an excuse to reconcile her messing up the past 8 bonds. I am done with it and have been done for a long time now. We need to get going before we lose control of the situation, Keenan.” I say as I get up and start to walk towards the door. I smell Maleena, Lucas, Sebastian and Redna not paying them any attention. I walk out of the door with Keenan on my heels. Once we reach outside I hear a loud growl. I turn to see Alarick mid jump frozen in the air.
“You want to handle this so we can move on?” Keenan says and looks at me.
“WHO ARE YOU?!” Alarick screams trying to move, but to no avail.
“He is a special friend of mine and you will leave him alone.” I say sternly. Fen growls in my head not liking the way Alarick is threatening the only person we both trust completely.
“He’s the reason you don’t want a mate isn’t he? I knew there had to be an explanation and now here he is. You don’t want a mate bond because you already have somebody. How could I be so stupid?” Alarick starts rambling. Keenan stares at me. begging me to tell Alarick the truth with his eyes. I don’t make a move to say anything. Keenan sighs and looks back at Alarick.
“No your highness. LeeAca is a dear friend of mine. We have been friends for years now, nothing romantic has ever gone on between us and never will. She is a true friend to me. as I try to be to her. Now if I let you down could you not attack me?” Keenan asks Alarick. I huff, annoyed that Kerrrian felt the need to explain that to him. He should have just let it be, maybe I would have been left alone for once.
“You know he is going to try to get us to give in to the mate bond right? The goddess told him to help us.” Fen says to me. I just ignore everything and start walking on. I hear a thump a few seconds later and footsteps running toward me. Alarick comes and walks next to me and Keenan is on the other side.
“What are you doing? You just got back.” Alarick asks me. I don’t answer. “LeeAca. Why aren’t you answering me?” He asks again, still I say nothing. “What the hell did I do that was so wrong?! Want to be with my mate? Want to make sure that my mate is safe?! I will not apologize for that LeeAca.” Alarick starts in on me. I feel a slight pang of guilt and stop in my tacks. I breathe in and out. One more time, in and out numb it. Numb the feelings.
“Where did you send the people from the hunter’s lab?” I ask Alarick and he just stops and stares at me. I can feel his irritation, disappointment, sadness and anger.
“They are getting settled in the school gymnasium.” He grunts out. I turn and start walking towards the school gym.
“Alraick you should come with us. It will be beneficial for you.” I hear Keenan say and I huff and walk faster tuning them out.
As I enter the gym I see that there in an assembly line of people handing out food. There are sandwiches, chips and fruit cups.
“It is the best we could do on short notice.” Alarick says as he comes up beside me.
“This is fine. Thank you for thinking about feeding them. I will take them when they are done.” I say with a small smile. I am trying to keep the big bad Alpha from going apesh*t in this room of fragile people. I start to walk around assessing people. There are about 25 adults and teens and an additional 10 children. I can already tell that 4 people are close to unstable and will likely need to be put down. I see 5 that are depressed and not eating. I see some of the children are struggling with sleep. After 15 minutes most people were done eating and I walked to the center of the bleachers.
“Attention everyone!” I say as I wait for them to quiet down. “Unfortunately we will not be staying here tonight. We are about a 2 hour walk from the pack we will be going to. Please, if you could round up and follow me. Also ensure that the children are taken care of and not left behind.” I say and wait for them to group together. I see blankets being brought from the main doors of the room. When everybody is grouped I hop down the bleachers and stand in front of the group. “If you feel you may get cold, grab a blanket being passed out on your way out. Now follow me please.” I say and start to walk out. After we get outside of the royal territory I feel Alarick come and walk next to me.
“Where are you taking them?” He asked me.
“The rogue pack. It is where I take all of the rescues.” I say and I see his mouth open slightly. “What?” I ask, irritated.
“Nothing.” He says and looks at me in a weird way.
“It isn’t “nothing”. What? I can feel you wanting to ask a question.” I say, clearly irritated now.
“It’s just.. What do you mean it is where you take all the rescues?” He asks.
