First of all, I will be accepting your offer of land and money. Then, the other things I need are: one, a house with at least three bedrooms; I also need my own lab. I like my own space and won’t be working with anyone unless I choose to. I need that lab to be fully stocked with all the machines and every single thing I need. I’ve written you a list at the end of this email. If you can’t get everything, please inform me so I can make arrangements.
I will be coming with a lab assistant to help me, so please make accommodation arrangements for him too. I assume you’ve had doctors come through before me; I’m going to need you to email me all their notes, tests, and charts so I can be up to speed.
I guess that’s all. If there’s anything else, I’ll be sure to email you with the details. I’ll be seeing you in three weeks.
Then underneath, she listed everything she needed for her lab.
“So, what did she say?” Zeo asked.
“Well, she said she would be coming in three weeks, that she can’t come any sooner. She needs a house with at least three bedrooms and accommodation for her lab assistant. She also sent a list of everything we need to get for her lab,” I told him.
“Three bedrooms? What does she need all that space for?” Zeo asked me.
“I don’t know, Zeo, and honestly, I don’t care. She could ask for a mansion, and I would give it to her. We need to make sure she has everything she needs,” I told him.
“I understand. Just send me the list, and I’ll get right on it,” he said.
“Sure, I’ll forward it to you. She also asked for her own lab. We have that huge space close to the building where the sick are. We can build it there, so she doesn’t have to walk far if she wants to see them,” I told him.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea. Three weeks is enough time to build a sound structure. What about the house and accommodation for her lab assistant?” Zeo asked.
“For the house, we can give her the cabin. It has four bedrooms and baths, and it’s beautiful out there. Then, for her lab assistant, we could give him an apartment in one of our buildings,” I told him.
“Okay then, I’ll get started on ordering the lab equipment and put a rush on it. I’ll also send someone over to clean up the cabin,” he said.
“Thank you, Zeo. Truly, you were the one who found her, and she could possibly be the person that saves us. So thank you,” I told him sincerely. Through all this, he has been by my side every step of the way, going above and beyond.
“Of course, Leo. This is my pack too,” he said.
“Speaking of that, don’t tell anyone about the doctor. Let’s just keep it between us until she gets here. When she finally arrives, then we can inform the rest of the pack,” I told him.
“Of course, Leo. I’m going to go get started on that list,” he said, then left the office.
I slumped back against my chair, running my hand over my face and through my hair. For the first time in six months, I could actually see a light at the end of the tunnel. I don’t know why, but I just have this feeling that Lena Everhart is the solution to all our problems.
A part of me wanted to look her up and see what she was like, but I decided against it. I didn’t want to form an opinion of her before I met her. I’d wait.
I picked up my phone and dialed the nurse.
“Alpha Leo, you just left here. Is anything wrong?” she asked.
“No, no, nothing is wrong. I need to tell you something, but you can’t tell anyone else,” I told her.
“Of course, Alpha,” she answered in a very serious tone.
“The doctor has agreed to come and help us, so I don’t think you should put the kids under anymore. Let’s wait and see what she says,” I told her.
“That’s amazing news-at last, some good in the midst of all the bad. I’ll do as you say, Alpha. I won’t tell anyone, and we won’t put the kids under,” she said. Then I said goodbye and hung up the call.
Doctor Lena Everhart-I can’t wait to meet you-I thought to myself as I stared at her email on my screen.
-Lena’s POV-
The day had finally come. I had taken care of everything I needed to back at my lab-asked for a leave of absence and handed over my patients. There was nothing left for me to do other than pack and explain to the kids that we were leaving. I still hadn’t figured out exactly what I was going to tell them. Thankfully, Zoey was coming with us, so she’d be able to stay with the kids while I was working. I really don’t know what I would do without her.
I locked up my lab, left the building, got into my car, and drove home. I still had to pack for myself and the kids. This disease-I didn’t know how bad it was, so I had no idea how long I’d be at the pack.
When I got home, I saw Zoey’s car was already there, which meant the kids were back from school. I parked my car and headed inside. A few seconds later, I heard little feet running down the stairs.
“Mummy!” all three of them screamed when they saw me. I squatted down, opened my arms as wide as I could, and hugged them tight.
“Oh, my babies, I missed you,” I told them, pressing a kiss on each of their heads.
“We missed you too, Mummy,” they all said.
“Mummy, is it true that we’re leaving?” my daughter asked. She’s the youngest of the three and very soft-spoken, unlike her brothers.
“Who told you that we were leaving?” I asked.
“Aunty Zoey,” she whispered softly, like it was a secret. I just smiled at my sweet girl.
“Where is your Aunty Zoey?” I asked them.
“She’s up in our room,” Liam told me.
“All right then, let’s all go up to your room, and I’ll explain everything,” I said. Immediately, Liam and Luke ran up the stairs while Karla took my hand.
We walked up the stairs together, and when we got to their room, Zoey already had their boxes out.
“What are you doing?” I asked her.
“I thought I’d get started on the kids’ packing-to get something off your plate,” she told me.
“Thank you,” I told her, then I turned around and glared at my sons.
“Liam and Luke, what have I said about running in the house?” I asked.
Immediately, they gave me those puppy dog eyes and stuck out their lips.
