Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 5 – Return of the Despised Luna

His words only made me feel more troubled.

How could Rosaline have feelings for that kid, Ryan? Was she blind?

Since I couldn’t sleep, I got up and lit a cigarette. Then, I stared at the moon, keeping my eyes open until morning.

Rosaline’s POV:

The next few days were uneventful.

The repetitive cycle of work, sleep, and eating made me miss the old days. Whether it was traveling the world or lounging at the Shadow Pack Manor, both felt freer than being stuck here.

Soon, it was the Eclipse Group’s anniversary celebration. In the evening, I was dragged by the Holbrooks to get my hair and makeup done, and I had to change into a formal gown to attend the event with Caden.

The party was extravagant, with many famous figures from Rivemon’s business circles in attendance.

Caden, as the CEO of Eclipse Group, was constantly busy greeting guests, leaving me standing by his side. Feeling bored out of my mind, I made an excuse to head to the bathroom and escape for a while.

Just as I finished touching up my makeup and was about to leave, a woman called out to me.

“Are you Rosaline Sinclair?”

I turned around to face her. She looked about my age, dressed in a Dior haute couture gown. Judging by her appearance, she must be from some prominent Pack.

“Can I help you?” I asked.

“I’m Wendy Crawford,” she said as she stepped forward.

I had heard the name Wendy in all the gossip circulating since I arrived at Eclipse Pack.

The princess of the Crawfords was Caden’s childhood friend and the only woman who had been by his side for years.

Everyone assumed they were a perfect match and that they would eventually marry.

Rumors have even suggested that Wendy will be the future Luna of Eclipse Pack.

But now, I had shown up and messed up their plans.

“What’s this about?” I asked, keeping my voice steady.

Wendy took a card from her bag and, without flinching, said, “Here’s ten million. I want you to announce that you’re breaking off your engagement with Caden tonight.”

I couldn’t help but laugh at her audacity.

Since coming to Rivemon, it seemed like people thought throwing money at me would get them what they wanted.

But compared to Eleanor’s 5,000, Wendy’s ten million was certainly more generous.

Wendy looked at me with a frown. “This ten million will ensure you live comfortably for the rest of your life. You need to know that Caden will never choose you as his Luna. He’s only sticking with you now because of Mr. Richard’s poor health. Once he gets better, Caden will get rid of you. You won’t get a single benefit from this.”

“Ha!” I scoffed, “Ten million to last me for the rest of my life? Ms. Crawford, that’s not even enough for my monthly allowance.”

Without waiting for her stunned reaction, I turned and walked away, my heels clicking sharply on the floor.

Behind me, I could hear Wendy shout, “You’re out of your mind, Rosaline? How could you, a bumpkin Omega, have ten million of a monthly allowance?”

When I came out, Caden had already finished his speech and was talking with some senior Betas from Eclipse Pack.

I couldn’t be bothered to approach him. Instead, I stood off to the side, sipping my wine, when Eleanor suddenly spotted me. She walked toward me quickly, like a predator eyeing its prey.

Looking at the wine in my hand, she warned me, “Rosaline, don’t wander off. Stay put and don’t embarrass the Eclipse Pack!”

I stared at Eleanor’s face, regretting attending this event just out of boredom.

I wanted to snap back, but before I could say anything, Wendy showed up, flanked by a few haughty female wolves.

Wendy strutted over, all grace and elegance as if the earlier incident in the restroom had never happened.

She cozied up to Eleanor, then turned to me with a bright smile. “Mrs. Eleanor, this must be Caden’s fiancée! Ms. Sinclair, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

I almost gagged. In terms of pretending to be innocent and prim, Wendy was a master of her craft.

Eleanor shot me a glare, then smiled at Wendy. “Wendy, don’t bother with her. She’s just an Omega from Frostmoore, unrefined and clueless about any manners.”

“It’s fine, Mrs. Eleanor. By the way, I’ve heard that Ms. Sinclair is exceptionally talented. There’s a piano on stage – how about a little friendly competition?” Wendy’s eyes sparkled with mischief.

The entire room had been buzzing with whispers from the start of the celebration. All of them were rumors about me being an incompetent Omega from Frostmoore. Where had Wendy heard about my supposed talent?

She was clearly trying to humiliate me.

Before I could even protest, Wendy walked confidently toward the piano by the stage.

All eyes turned to her.

Wendy took a moment to scan the room with a smile, then gently pressed the keys, filling the air with a smooth and flawless piece of music.

I had no choice but to listen, and, I’ll admit, she played quite well. She was clearly well-practiced.

When she finished, the crowd applauded.

Amid the applause, Wendy stood up and walked toward me with a bright smile. “It seems like I didn’t perform well, Ms. Sinclair. It’s your turn now.”

Her pack of female wolves immediately started teasing me.

“Wendy, that was amazing! But come on, Ms. Sinclair, are you just going to stand there? Don’t tell me you can’t play the piano. Can you imagine the rumors if Mr. Holbrook’s fiancée can’t even play a simple tune?”

The women raised their voices deliberately, making sure everyone around us could hear, hoping to turn the crowd against me.

Eleanor’s face darkened, and she shot me a disgusted look.

The future Luna of the Eclipse Pack was being humiliated, but she thought the problem was with me instead of being concerned about Wendy’s rudeness.

I gave them a nonchalant smile. “I just think playing piano at a banquet feels like performing for tips. But since you all insist on hearing it, I’ll give it a try.”

With that, I confidently walked toward the piano, set my wine glass down on the edge, and addressed the room. “Since Ms. Crawford wants a competition, I’ll play the same piece she did.”

I pressed my fingers gently on the keys, and a melody rich with emotion poured from my hands, filling the banquet hall.

Wendy thought she could embarrass me, but she was wrong.

I had passed grade ten in piano when I was ten years old. After becoming Alpha, my senses sharpened, and my skill only improved.

They were going to be disappointed. No one in the Werewolf Continent had ever seen me fail in anything.

The sound of my piano flowed beautifully, and the crowd was entranced. People on the dance floor began moving in time with the music, and the entire atmosphere in the hall reached its peak.

These wolves were the elite of Rivemon, and even if they didn’t have great taste, they could tell that my performance far outshone Wendy’s. And not just by a little.

When the piece ended, the applause was overwhelming.

I stood, offering a small smile to the guests, before gracefully stepping away from the piano and walking back to a stunned Wendy, who now looked as pale as a ghost.

How does it feel to be slapped in the face by a lowly bumpkin Omega?

I looked at Wendy and I didn’t have to say anything, but I knew her humiliation was deeper than any slap could have caused.

“Ms. Sinclair, your talent truly outshines mine. I’m humbled,” Wendy said, forcing out a tight smile.

“Ms. Crawford, you played well too,” I responded flatly.

Just then, a middle-aged man in a black suit walked toward them.

I froze. Wasn’t that Felix, the butler of Shadow Pack Manor? What was he doing here?

Oh no. I had worked so hard to maintain my Omega persona. Was it about to crumble?

However, Felix walked right past me without a second glance. He looked only at Caden and Eleanor and spoke to them.

“Mr. Caden, Mrs. Holbrook, good evening. I am Felix Allison, butler for Shadow Pack. I apologize for my Alpha, Mr. Hubert, being unable to attend. He is ill, so I am here to represent him.”

Eleanor quickly stepped forward. “Mr. Allison, please, make yourself comfortable. How is Mr. Hubert’s health?”

Felix nodded slightly. “He’s fine.”

With that, he presented his gift – nothing less than a world-famous painting, a piece of land in Minespir valued in the hundreds of millions, and a whole host of other luxurious items.

Eleanor’s eyes sparkled with delight, and she showered him with thanks, her gaze toward me now tinged with something else. The guests around us began whispering among themselves.
