She smiles softly and grabs my hand, “Then it’s okay. Seriously, I survived it and now I’m here. Anyway, my father starts showing me how to read and write and do math. That came in handy for learning to cook more intricate meals, but that was all he taught me. I wasn’t taught anything else. I learned some stuff about mates from a book my dad gave me and from the omegas when they turned 18 years old and found their mates. “Wait, you got Roxie at 12 years old? That’s unusual.” I said because it’s true. Most wolfs don’t get their wolf until they are 18 years old. I will need to look into this further.
“Yeah, Roxie is my best and only friend. Although, I did ask the omegas about mates and they told me what it was supposed to be like and about rejections and mating and what not. Aside from that, they never really spoke to me. Jules said I was an unwanted fat bastard child and anyone associating with me for anything other than work would be fired, so none of them befriended me.” The look in her eyes showed the depths of loneliness she has faced all these years. My heart breaks to see her like this and it only furthers my resolve to make sure she never feels sad a day in her life again.
Rebel POV
This entire conversation with Austin and Renz is really hard for me to go through but Roxle is right, I need to tell them everything, If after this, Austin doesn’t reject me, then I can allow myself to trust him. Roxie doesn’t zually steer me wrong, so I am going on her instincts. I just pray he doesn’t look down on me for being eneducated and having basically been a slave my whole life,
Austin asks me questions throughout me telling my life story. “What happens when people come over darling? Didn’t they question your father about you?”
I looked away. It’s hard knowing your father didn’t want you around, “Well, I wasn’t allowed to go out, Eventually, I was able to convince my dad to let me have a day off once a month to rest. He agreed, which made Jolles mad, but it was my one day of peace. The only other times I got time off was when there was company. I would have to prepare the meal for that evening, and then leave until midnight and return home. Then I could shower and go to bed. I would consider myself lucky if the water was lukewarm. They both looked at me with an incredulous expression on their face. “You went through those rejection pains alone and still prepared your sister’s party? Was Cullen there?”
“Yes and no he wasn’t there. Maybe he was going through pains too? If he was, then I’m glad I wasn’t suffering alone.” I said and even I could hear the saltiness in my words. Seriously though, that was a horrible week.
“Fuck Cullen. You’re mine now.” Austin grabs my chin to pull my face up and kiss me fast and deep. My cheeks reddened as I hear Renz snicker.
“Tell me something sweetheart, you seem nervous about people, which understanding your past, I can see why. But you are not nervous to put yourself in harm’s way. Why is that?” Austin asks me. Well at least with that, I’m happy to answer.
“Well, my dear mate, I’m a tough fighter. My father trained me, but he also said I’m stronger than most male warriors. He also told me that I’m stronger than most betas he’s fought. Roxie is also fast and strong. We have no problems defending ourselves or anyone we care about.”
Renz then speaks up, “But you trained privately, so how do you know that you have no problems defending yourself?”
“I’ve had to defend myself before beta. Remember, I was kicked out of the house until midnight. I’ve had my share of fighting a rogue or two. Sometimes, two at once, but you are welcome to test me.” I said with a confident grin.
Austin growled, “Your father didn’t care about threats and you had fought rogues, on your own. Did he even know about the rogues?”
“I told him the first time, but he told me that was why he was training me.” I shrugged, “Besides, if he didn’t care that I was out there in the first place, why would he care if I fought a rogue? I would like to continue training though, if that’s okay.” I said, because I like training. I get to go outside and have fresh air. Plus, Roxie gets to come out and train too.
Austin smiles knowingly, “okay, but I want to test you myself. If your father said you are better than betas, then I have to see if you can take me, little mate.”
I grin a wicked grin, “Challenge accepted Alpha.”
Renz laughs, “Alpha, I think you just dug your own grave.”
Austin grins at him wickedly, “Or maybe you will have your work cut out for you Renz. If she can beat me, imagine what she’ll do to you.”
I laugh and rub my hands together, “this will be fun for me then.”
Austin smiles at me, but then the tone of his voice becomes serious. “Rebel, I understand your past, and I’m sure I will have questions in the future, but in the meantime, I want to make sure you learn about werewolf history, our pack history, hierarchy, and everything else you didn’t get to learn. I think you will catch on quickly, but you need to know these things. I don’t want you to be fooled later on and believe anything someone tells you. We can do it discreetly and I will take you to the library and get you started with some books. Are you okay with what I’m proposing?”
I look at Austin in awe and admiration. He doesn’t think less of me. He just wants me to have the education I was robbed of, and something about that really warms my heart. ‘See? I told you he would help us!’ Roxie gloats. She really likes it when she can tell me ‘I told you so.’
“I would like that very much. Although, I am use to self-teaching. If the library has all of this information, it would be easier for me to read at my pace and then compile my questions. I’ll get a schedule going for training, learning and then smoking meats.” I say to him thinking about all the new stuff I’m going to start learning about and it makes me smile with excitement.
“What’s this about smoking meats?” Renz asks.
“My mate can cook Renz. I’ve had her smoked pork shoulder already. She wants to make briskets for the pack.” Austin says with pride. I blush, because my family was never happy when I smoked meats.
“Not fair Luna! We are definitely getting you a smoker. I want to try pork shoulder and brisket too! I’m still a growing boy after all.” He says with a boyish grin.
I laugh and shake my head, “I’m glad anything I make here has willing participants to devour it.”
Austin looks at Renz, “Rebel needs clothes and necessities. Does Lacy have anything going on today? I’d like her to go with Rebel. Also, I want three warriors with them.”
I see Renz eyes glaze over and I assume he is mind linking someone.
“Yeah, she is available. I asked her to come here, if that’s okay. I’m also going to get the warriors ready along with a couple of the pack cars.”
