“She got in my business with that omega bitch that was trying to steel my boyfriend, we left them in the locker aisle and went to lunch, after lunch we were in the girl’s bathroom and Dedi and
Marla were asking about the bruise on her face, I told them what Mimi Sutter said and did. We had a good laugh about it, and Dedi said she didn’t blame Mimi who would want to be related to her anyways, I might have said not me, just in the heat of that moment.” I looked over at Keska to see her reaction to Jessie’s statement, and nothing she sat there with no expression on her face whatsoever. “Keska, did you hear Jessie say that to her friends?”
“Yes.” She deadpans her answer. “So, you thought it was a good idea to accept Jessie’s rejection without coming to your mother or me?”
I reopened a link to both Nana and Mackie at this point, knowing that I was going to get some form of punishment. “What good would it have done me?” she asked again with no emotion in her voice and keeping her eyes on Jessie. “Keska stop being rude to your father!” Carla admonished her.
I also had noticed her eyes glaze over, so I knew she linked someone.
“Who did you Link?” I asked her. “Nana.”
“Why?”
“So, I won’t have to explain why I won’t be at training, because I will have some form of punishment.” She says
KESKA: “How am I being rude?” I asked glancing at mom, then turned back to watch Jessie “I just asked a question, one that I have asked over and over with the same answer NONE.”
“Do you remember Uncle Carson’s Ginseng Ficus? I was 7
years old; it was two weeks after Lissa and Liam turned 5, it wasn’t me that knocked it over, it was James and Jessie, but because they both said it was me, then I guess it had to be me, right?”
“I was made to apologize to him for something I didn’t do, and the whole time both of them were laughing about it.”
“I knew how much that tree meant to Uncle Carson, he would use to talk to it and tell it that when it got to be a bit bigger it would go out to the garden and be the star of the garden just like Great Grandma wanted. That was the first time I felt the sting of father’s belt it was also the last time that I apologized for something I didn’t do.”
“Or how about when I was 8 James and Jessie were 10 and your crystal vase, got broken? I wasn’t even home when it happened, I came in just before you and father walked through the door, but again because they both said I did it, well then hey I did it. I even have a witness for that day, did you see Delta Cole that day when you came in? Probably don’t remember, it was so long ago, he had just dropped me off. That was the second time I felt the sting of father’s belt.
Or just last year, after they thought it would be fun to break Mr. Rickman’s window I spent two months working for him to pay off the cost of that window and spent every night for a week in the cells, and again I felt the sting of Father’s belt. The list goes on. Each time I thought he’s going to ask me, right? But he never did.
So, I just stopped expecting it and just started asking what my punishment would be and how long it would last.”
“James and Jessie have never felt the sting of Father’s belt, but I have felt it more times than I care to remember.”
“So how am I being rude?” I asked again.
DRAKE: “WHAT!” I roared “They broke that window?” I look at her then at Jessie. (JESSIE: “James, Keska just told on us about breaking old man Rickman’s window.” I linked him.) “I want the truth!
Who broke that window?”
“What’s it matter now for? It’s not like you’re going to punish them for it. Not when I have already paid the price and did the punishment.”
(Not like you would or could take it back.) Again, she states with no emotion and keeps her eyes on Jessie. It’s starting to scare me a little, have I really broken her? “I just want to know what my punishment is so that I can go please.”
“There is no punishment, Keska.” I tell her. “Daddy!” Jessie whines. “What do you mean no punishment, there is always a punishment when Jessie whines about something.
I ignored her, that alone has got to be worth what? at least 5 lashes, and a night in the cells to say the least.” She again states it with no emotion to her voice or face. “Keska!” Carla admonished her again.
Pup speaks truth, gives Alpha respect, but not father heart. My wolf tells me.
DRAKE: “Jessie now that you have settled down, tell me have you put the puzzle pieces together yet?” I asked her. She has a look of concentration on her face, which tells me she has not figured it out. “The only way you will be able to link your sister is by a pack wide link, not just one on one, you rejected her she accepted, the link between you is broken,
Keska did not ignore you.”
“Keska you can go.” She gets up and makes a wide berth around Jessie’s chair as she leaves the office. James, come to my office. There is a knock on the door. “Come.”
“You wanted to see me dad?”
“Yes, take a seat.” I tell my son. “Did you know about Jessie and Keska?” I ask him “Not until after the fact.”
“You didn’t think to tell your mother or me? Would, you have stopped it?”
“I don’t think anyone could have. It was between Jessie and Kes I was not going to be a tattle tale.” He says to me. “That didn’t answer my question, but by the answer you did give I know the answer.”
“Now tell me what exactly happened to Mr. Rickman’s window.”
