He grabbed my wrist and pinned me against the wall shelf, eyes burning. “Say it.”
I met his stare. “I regret ever believing you loved me.”
Something inside him snapped. His claws flexed but didn’t strike.
“From the moment I pulled you out of that hell, you became mine. We were close to being bonded. Don’t talk like that. I hate hearing it. Understand?”
For a heartbeat, I almost believed the fire in his eyes meant love. But it wasn’t love.
It was ownership.
Before I could answer, his gaze drifted, unfocused, glassy. He was listening to a mindlink.
Lydia’s panicked voice slipped through the air. My wolf heard it too.
“Alpha, Suzette just woke up and now she’s freaking out. She said if those videos spread, she’ll be too humiliated to go on living. Please, Alpha, she’s all I have left. If she dies, I won’t survive either!”
Johan’s jaw tightened. “Tell Suzette I’ll take care of it. She just needs to stay alive. I’ll handle everything.”
His words hit harder than claws to the heart.
He cut the link and looked at me again, colder than ever. “You’re coming with me to the High Council. You’ll delete those videos yourself.”
“No!”
I didn’t hesitate. My wolf bared her teeth.
He didn’t look surprised. “You know my temper, Jessica. When I want something, I get it.”
My heart thumped painfully. “What are you trying to say? Threaten me again?” I took a shaky step back, but he followed.
He tilted his head, smiling like it was all a joke. “Threaten? No. Just reminding you of what you left in my hands.” His eyes glinted with cruelty. “I still have those videos and photos from your birthday last year. Remember? You were drunk, laughing, taking off your dress for me, saying you trusted me more than anyone.”
“Stop.” My voice cracked. “Don’t you dare-“
He stepped closer, his breath brushing my face. “What do you think people would say if they saw them, Jessica? Your Alpha father? You know, all those videos you’ve sent to the High Council will be nothing when they find out the sender has a dirty reputation.”
My chest tightened, fury and shame burning together. “You wouldn’t. You promised me those were just between us.”
He chuckled darkly. “I promised a lot of things. You said you loved me, remember? That night you called me your forever. Does that still mean nothing?”
“Johan!” I gasped, tears threatening as my claws flexed involuntarily, my wolf snarling in rage. “You’re not the man I loved. You’re a monster!”
He just stared, silent and cruel.
The memories flooded back-me laughing, drunk, fearless for once, doing something stupid for love. And now that same love was being used as a weapon.
My palm connected with his cheek before I even realized it. The crack echoed in the room.
His head snapped to the side, and red marks bloomed on his skin.
He touched his face slowly, then met my eyes. I was shaking, holding back tears I refused to shed.
“Come with me to the Council,” he said quietly. “Delete the files, and I’ll erase those photos. Don’t push me, Jessica.”
I laughed, hollow and bitter. This time the tears came, hot and fast.
“Damn you, Johan.”
I turned and stormed out.
I didn’t want to erase the evidence, but if those photos leaked, I’d be ruined.
He’d won.
Again.
My wolf whimpered, low and angry.
Behind me, Johan’s voice was low, but I heard the weight of it.
“Jessica, you still don’t understand. You’ll always belong to me.”
Jessica’s POV
I used to think that being with Johan would always feel like home.
Now, it just felt cold. Foreign even. Like sitting next to a stranger who used to know every inch of my soul.
There was a time his scent could calm my wolf.
But right now? My wolf didn’t even stir.
Johan kept glancing my way like he wanted to say something, but the second our eyes met, he clamped his mouth shut.
The bruise on his cheek was still fresh from when I slapped him.
Even the driver seemed tense like he was begging the Moon Goddess to get us to the High Council in one piece.
But then, out of nowhere, a Maybach came speeding like a rogue.
“What the hell?!” the driver shouted, jerking the wheel hard.
Too late.
The crash hit us dead-on. Metal shrieked. Glass burst around us like a wave. The car twisted, spun, and slammed to a brutal stop.
“Sh*t! Jessica, are you okay?!” Johan reached for me, voice shaking.
My vision blurred. Every bone in my body rattled like a broken bell. I tried to speak, but no sound came out.
“Stay with me!” Johan said again, fumbling with my seatbelt. “Come on, just stay awake!”
The driver groaned once, then collapsed against the steering wheel, completely out.
Johan threw his arm across my chest, yanking me back before my head hit the dash.
But a twisted seat rail in the wreck had jammed against my side, trapping my hip, pinning me painfully in place.
“I got you! I got you!”
He was about to remove it when his phone rang.
Johan’s phone lit up. A video call. Lydia.
“Alpha! Please help! A lunatic stormed into Suzette’s room with a knife, screaming that she’s his wife! He’s trying to drag her out, and no one can stop him! She’s terrified!” Lydia’s voice cracked.
Then another voice shrieked through the phone. “Don’t touch me! Johan! Help!”
Suzette. Of course.
I turned to Johan. “Can you at least help me out of the car first? Johan, help me.”
But he didn’t even look at me. His eyes were on the screen like I wasn’t even there.
Suzette, on the phone, screamed again, “Help me, Johan!”
He finally spoke. “I’m sorry, Jessica. Don’t you see? Suzette’s in danger. I have to go to her. I’ll send my Beta to pick you up.”
And just like that, he ended the call, opened the door, flagged down a cab, and took off.
No goodbye. Not even a glance.
He just left me there, fresh out of a crash, bleeding, stuck, and still breathing.
How many times was he going to prove I meant nothing to him?
I waited for the pain to come, but it didn’t.
Just a cold clarity, like frostbite in my chest.
I was furious. But I was also relieved.
Maybe I didn’t have to go to the High Council station anymore.
Maybe I could finally escape his grip.
But what about the photos he still had of me? What if he used them against me?
My thoughts spun until something ripped the car door off like it was made of paper.
Standing there was a tall, broad-shouldered man with sharp icy blue eyes and a jaw that could crush glass.
It was the man from last night.
My body froze. Heat rushed up my neck.
“You? What the hell are you doing here?”
He didn’t answer. He leaned in, easily unhooked whatever had pinned my leg, and scooped me into his arms like I weighed nothing.
“Put me down!” I snapped.
But he didn’t. He slid me into a sleek black SUV like I was his precious cargo.
He turned to the driver. “Now, drive.”
