Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 12 – The Lycan King’s Army

My members and I are the only ones inside the building, and I wait in the living room for everyone to show up. I see that a few sit down together, the ones who decided they would become a part of a team, Captain’s team, and the rest just sit down wherever there is a seat available.

It takes about fifteen minutes before each of them is quiet, and Flora is the one to start talking.

“I have already picked my team members, so why don’t I start announcing my team?” She asks, but I just shake my head.

Luckily, she is smart enough to keep her mouth shut, and I grab the tablet to pull up the list of the teams I made.

“I went through each of your files, and I have come to the conclusion that each of you actually has a brain,” I say, and everyone chuckles. “I mean that you will all be able to understand my reasoning when I explain how I came to my decisions, and to make it a little easier, I want to ask you to compare our unit to a Pack.

Pack members have to answer to an Alpha, but if an Alpha had to talk to every member one by one, it would take forever, and for that reason, only one person will answer to the Alpha. Which basically means that an Alpha has different teams throughout his Pack and he needs to make sure that every team within his Pack is the best he can have.” I explain, and I see all of them nod their heads.

“Flora, have you ever watched the Warriors in your Pack train?” I ask her, and she answers that she has.

“Have you ever questioned a decision your Head Warrior made while pairing a team?” She answers my question affirmatively.

“Can you explain to everyone why you questioned him?” I ask her.

She explains that one pairing stood out to her, “One of them is very strong and can take down any Rogue he has to face, the other one can fight but is no match for someone who is bigger.”

“Is there something his teammate was better at?” I ask her, and she explains that he was better at seeing an opponent’s weakness.

“Flora, that is exactly the reason they get paired. One has the strength to take down his opponent, while the other can see the weakness; together, they will be able to take down multiple opponents if they work together. On their own, they might be able to take down one or two opponents, but in the end, it will cause them to lose.” I say, and I can see that Flora understands what I just said.

“I think we all understand what you are trying to say, Commander. I will accept whoever you assign to my team.” Enzo says, and the other team Captains tell me they will accept their teams as well.

I start with Flora’s team, and one by one, the teams move across the room until only four members remain.

“Chaya, Skylar, Danica, and Faith. You will be my team, and I will be counting on the four of you to help me guide this unit. I hope you will all show me that you are worthy to be in the King’s Army, and if any of you run into problems, I want you to come to me before I have to report you to the King.” I say, and I know most of them will come to me if it is necessary.

I had already checked out our wing, and, as Commander, I would reside on the top floor; I chose the bottom floor for Flora and her team. The five of them are light sleepers, and together they can form a solid front against anyone who wants to enter our wing, giving the rest of the time to come to their aid.

Flora looks surprised when I explain why she will be on this floor, but when she looks at her team, she realizes that I am right.

“We won’t disappoint you, Commander.” She says before she guides her team into their Quarters. The other four teams are divided over the two floors above Flora’s team, and my team walks up to the last floor.

The top floor covers the entire side of our wing, and I notice a living room and a kitchen next to an office on the left side of the stairs, while our rooms are on the right side.

“Commander, your room will be the last on the right.” Faith has opened all the bedroom doors and checked them all.

She points Chaya to the room across the hall from me, Skylar to the room next to mine, and asks Danica which room she would like. Danica choses the room next to Chaya, which leaves the room next to Skylar for Faith, and we all walk into our rooms to unpack our bags.

“Commander, we have a private living room and some offices next to our Quarters,” Flora informs me through the mind-link.

“We will meet you down there in a few minutes,” I respond. We need to review our education and training schedule.
