“Why did you own up, you stupid id*ot?” I heard Jax “I took the blame!”
I slowly sat up on my tighs and groaned in pain as I looked at my brother “I couldn’t let them hurt you” I pointed out as I looked over at his bloodies back “I’m so sorry Jax, I didn’t know Ezra had set you up”
“You’re surprised?” Jax frowned at me “He hates me, he always has and you stupidly lap up all his cr*p, I’m sick of you believing all the sh*t he fills your head with, you and I are not in competition, I dont think I’m better then you, nor do I think you’re better then me, I have strengths and weaknesses and so do you, we complement each other, we need to stick together, so stop being a b*tch!”
“I’m sorry” I said softly
“Serves you right” Jax punched my arm and I gasped in agony again when the movement of my body, made my back burn in pain again “You should have just let me take the hits, don’t you get it by now, I’d rip my own heart out for you Koda and I always thought you’d do that same”
“I would”
“Except for when Ezra is around”
“No, I would” I told him “I’m sorry Jax, he just got into my head and I thought you looked down on me but I see clearly now, Ezra is just jealous of you and our bond and wants to break that but I won’t let him and I’ll make him leave and not come back, he deserves to be punished for this sh*t too”
“Good” Jax nodded

MADELYNS POV
I nervously left my mates and went inside with Christa, after yesterday, I really didn’t want to be without Koda’s or Jaxsons protection, but I knew the Queen wouldn’t hurt me and the twins had their duties to perform, so I could selfishly ask them to stay with me
Christa remained silent as we got into the elevator and I didn’t know if I should try small talk.
In my old pack, I knew the rules, I was to remain silent unless spoken to, sometimes I’d mess up and open my mouth, but it would always result in a punishment of some kind and, more often then not, I’d be taken to the shed.
I couldn’t help the shiver of fear that erupted whenever I thought about that shed, and I wrapped my arms around my body to help hold myself together.
If I didn’t shut down those thoughts and memories now, I’d have a panic attack and I didn’t need to show everyone just how weak I was.
Christa looked over at me, and her eyes fell on my arms, so I quickly lowered them into a more casual stance.
“Are you alright, Luna?”
“I’m fine, thanks” I lied and tried not to keep thinking about my past.
Ava comforted me and by pointing out that our future with our mates was going to be bright and happy, but how could it be, we’d literally brought a war to their footsteps.
Once we left the elevator into the lobby, I noticed a few women staring at me, some looked at my hands, which I hid in my pockets and some women just glared at me with hatred but quickly looked away when my guard growled lightly under her breath.
I kept my face down as she led the way to the King and Queens office.
The guards knocked and pushed open the doors for me to enter while Christa stood to attention on the other wall, opposite the door, and waited.
I frowned in guilt “Do you want me to get you a chair, I don’t know how long I’ll be in here”
Christa looked at me with a confused smile “No, thank you, Luna” She said kindly “It’s not allowed, but thank you for the offer though”
“Madelyn, get in here at once” I tensed when I heard the Queen mothers voice “Leave the staff alone!”
I smiled apologetically at Christa before walking inside to the find the Queen, the Queen mother and a woman I hadn’t met before.
The Queen was holding a tablet and reading something, but she looked up at me with wide welcoming smile, but the Queen mother looked just like the last time I’d seen her and I lowered my gaze.
‘Come here’ The Queen mother ordered, so I quickly went over to her and stood before her awkwardly ‘Well, sit down girl!’
I was caught off guard by her sudden anger and jumped a little before sitting down quickly. She moved my hair and looked at my throat.
“Don’t hide your mark, it’s rude” She commented.
The Queen rolled her eyes and placed her table down on her desk “How are you feeling today darling? Are your hands healed?’
‘Yes, thank you’
‘Outrageous behavior’ The Queen mother commented ‘Back in my day, women knew their place, although, back in my day, I’d have killed any women who dared challenge me for my mate, so pathetic of you to not fight back’
‘Yes, yes, thank you, Kaiya’ Kara said dismissively ‘Leave her be, she’s my daughter-in-law, not yours. If anyone reprimand her, it will be me”
Repremend me? What had I done now?
‘Darling’ She turned to me ‘There are rules that you must follow. However, if someone attacks you directly in the future, I expect you to fight back, letting others take advantage of you, will make the twins look weak and I will not allow anyone to think that’
‘I’m sorry’ I lowered my head and began to nervously play with my fingers ‘The twins have started to teach me to fight, I’ll get better, I won’t make them look weak again’
‘Good’ Kaiya commented angrily “It’s bad enough you were raised by dogs, we don’t need you bringing the monarchy down further’
I was really starting to understand why my mother hated this women, though Ava pointed out to me that she’d lost her mate, and I’d probably be bitter like her too, if it were me, so I didn’t snap back at her and held my tongue.
“I’m sorry” I said softly “I didn’t mean to”
“Shall we get down to business” Kaiya cut me off “We have things to do, Kara”
“Yes, you’re right” Kara smiled patiently. But we exchanged a look and I knew that she, like me, was annoyed by her attitude, and it made me feel like we had a small bond and I smiled “We should get down to business” Kara gestured to the women “Madelyn, this is Evelyn, she will be your teacher and advisor, I picked her out essentially for you”
“Oh, hello” I looked at the women “Why do I need a teacher and advisor, I finished my education already”
“Education, please!” Kaiya waved her hand dismissively “What those dogs taught you isn’t considered an education”
“Thank you, mother” Kara said with a slight edge in her tone and the Queen mother gave a huff and fell silent “Dear, your education didn’t cover the things that you’ll need to know and understand in order to help the twins run the kingdom and unfortunately, we only have a month to get you up to scratch”
“Don’t look so worried Luna, I will teach you what you need to know” Evelyn said kindly and touched my shoulder, but I cringed away from her.
“I don’t like to be touched!” I told her firmly, and she quickly pulled her hand back and looked worried.
“I apologize” She bowed “I will respect your boundaries. It won’t happen again”
The tension in the air was uncomfortable and I felt very awkward.
“So..” I tried to proceed as if nothing had happened “When do we start?”
“Today” Kara announced and stood up “We’ve set up an office for you, next door to the twins. Usually, you’d share an office with your mate, but because there are three of you, we’ll need to renovate”
I smiled “I’m sure Cody’s already designing something”
“Actually yes, he is” Kara rolled her eyes “I’ve already been given three sets of plans to approve”
“Three?” I giggled “Why did he make three?”
