“That’s so sweet of him”
“Sweet? That boy has always been too soft-hearted for an alpha” Kaiya commented and clicked her tongue in a disapproving manner.
I growled before I could stop myself and stood up angrily “DO NOT DISRESPECT KODA LIKE THAT!” I slammed my hands on the desk and everyone looked shocked and alarmed by my outburst and frankly, so was I, but I couldn’t stop myself, Ava’s temper had mixed with mine again and I couldn’t calm myself down “KODA IS TWICE THE MAN YOUR MATE WAS, I’VE READ ALL ABOUT HIM IN MY MOTHER’S JOURNALS AND I’M GLAD KODAS NOTHING LIKE HIM!”
The Queen mother’s eyes darkened as she stood up and slapped me, which brought me back to my senses and I jerked up and took a step back
“YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MY MATE DID FOR YOUR UNGRATEFUL MOTHER!” Kaiya shouted “SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT AGAIN GIRL AND YOU WILL REGRET IT!”
“I’m sorry” I said quickly and looked down and touched my burning cheek “I didn’t mean to shout at you, I lost control”
“WELL LOSE CONTROL LIKE THAT AGAIN AND I WILL HAVE YOU FLOGGED!” She screamed “GET OUT OF MY SITE!”
I nodded and went to leave, but Kara grabbed my arm to stop me “Don’t move” She said patiently and gripped my chin to look at my cheek “For goddess sake Kaiya, the girl was hurt yesterday”
“And now, thanks to her mouth, she’s hurt again” The Queen mother commented “Take Evelyn and go, Kara and I have things to discuss”
“Yes your majesty” Evelyn bowed and I pulled away from Kara and quickly followed her out.
Ava was fuming, she wanted me to turn back around and deck her, but I kept her in check as Evelyn, Christa and I walked through the halls.
My heart started racing when we got close to the twin’s office and their scents grew stronger, but as it wasn’t fresh, I knew they must still be with Beta Cole, collecting the Alphas.
Christa stopped at a door with my name on it and two guards standing on either side, but upon seeing me, they bowed and opened the door.
“Hello Luna” One of the men, with a shaved undercut and blonde highlights smiled at me “I’m Tobby and this is Collins, we’ve been assigned to watch you while you’re in your office
“Hi, it’s nice to meet you both” I felt so awkward “Thank you”
“You’re welcome” Collins, a cute, round-faced man with a wide-set build, said in a deep voice.
I walked inside and smiled. I knew instantly that Koda had done this. How he had the time, was beyond me, but I appreciated his efforts.
Knowing I liked stone designs, he’d changed the wooden flooring to fake stone tiles. That continued up the wall behind the wooden desk with what looked like an epoxy top. Inside the epoxy resin were beautiful flowers and glitter, resembling a swirling galaxy pattern that took my breath away. It was gorgeous.
The rest of the office had the usual things, cabinets, chairs, a sofa and chairs by a fireplace and several plants, but otherwise, it was bare.
I walked over and touched the desk that had a computer and several books stacked up on top.
“Luna” Evelyn drew my attention “These books are to help educate you on the Alpha’s arriving today, family lines, history of each pack and so on, I expect them to be finished by the end of the day”
“There’s 7 books here” I pointed out “This will take me hours”
“Then I suggest you begin” She told me “I will let you read and return later to bring lunch”
“Okay, thank you”
I pulled up my knees and opened the largest book in front of me, Evelyn walked over to the door, opened it, but then closed it again and turned back to me.
“Luna”
“Yes?”
“It’s not my place, but I knew your mother” She told me “And.. and I don’t know what she wrote in her diaries that you mentioned to the Queen mother and Queen Kara. She really hated the Queen mother. In fact, the Queen mother is one of the reasons your mother ran away from the pack. She gave her an ultimatum the day she left. Either she killed Prince Fenrir or we’d cut off all support to her family and let the Dragons kill her grandmother. She chose to leave to try and keep them safe, the werewolves were created to try and protect her people. It was never her intention to take over. I believe that was Prince Fenrir’s dream, and he was using your mother. I just wanted you to know that. She wasn’t a monster. Don’t let them make you believe she was”
“Thank you for telling me that” I sat down in a daze, the Queen’s mother had forced her hand, this wasn’t just my mother’s fault.
JAXSON’S POV
“Really Koda?” Ezra said like the smug b*stard he was.
“IT’S ALPHA!”
“It’s been decades” Ezra pointed out “You really need to get over it and stop living in the past, besides, everything worked out, stop being a little b*tch”
Koda growled again and looked at me and I could tell by the somber expression on his face, he was remembering how much of a pr*ck he’d been to me, every time Ezra was around, but I just smiled and shook my head, it was over 70 years ago..
“Cody, let him go”
“He’s still calling the shots I see” Ezra taunted him and I growled
“Just get in the car” I ordered “We have to go”
“Yes, run along little Beta” Ezra insulted Koda, knowing full well we were both Alphas “Your Alpha’s given you an order”
Koda growled and kneed Ezra in the crutch and watched him drop to the ground in pain.
I pulled Koda’s arm, and we went back over to our car and climbed in, Koda was quiet while we drove back to the tower
“Let it go Cody” I told him as I looked out the window “It’s in the past”
Koda didn’t reply, but I felt him looking at me, so without looking, I swung my arm backwards and hit him.
“Piss off” He laughed and hit me back
When we arrived at the tower, the Alpha’s were already in the lobby and being assigned accommodation, while staff took their luggage before we all went upstairs to the ballroom.
The staff were good, there was no sign of yesterday’s party and I found myself walking over to the spot where Madelyn had been burnt and glaring at the ground, but my father called to me, so I wandered back over to him and my brother.
After the council arrived, we all enjoyed morning tea and caught up, no one mentioning the upcoming war, that would happen tomorrow during the meeting. For now, we just kept things light, or at least we tried to but Ezra had other plans.
He came over to myself, Cody and my father. We’d been talking about a report one of the guards had just given my dad, it was a report about my uncle. Someone had seen him and Troy in the woods a few days from where we were and my father was discussing sending either myself or Cody to investigate because we’d be the only ones strong enough to fight against our uncle.
I could tell by the look in my brothers face that he didn’t want to go either and we’d have to settle it our old way with a rock paper scissors game.
“What the hell does that mean!?” Cole shouted as he crossed his arms in annoyance
We all looked over and watched their interaction, Cole rarely got angry.
“I’m just pointing out that it’s strange for him to try and escape now” Erza said, with his usual haughty sneer “I mean, what’s the point? He’d need a white Lycan to continue his plan, so he wouldn’t risk an escape attempt unless he had one, so.. I guess my question is, who’s the white Lycan? One’s obviously been born and my money is on our new Queen”
All eyes in the room shot to myself and Koda and I had to suppress the urge to knock Erza out.
‘Rumors have it, that she’s Iyarna’s kid” Ezra went on
How the hell did he know that, only the council had that information?!
