Chapter 13 – Mated To The Beta Twins

She came here to report what had happened and to see her Brother. Your Mother died in his arms and he took it hard when she died.” Elder Morton says and with tears streaming down my face, I listen to the story my Mother told them.

I don’t get an answer to the question, why my Father and Brother ignored me? At least no other answer than that it had been that way since the day I was born. And Elder Chelsea tells me that I might never get that answer.

What I do get is a new family member, Uncle Major. His story is a sad one, because he couldn’t handle Mom’s death and he has been living in his Lycan form ever since. A part of the territory is marked by the Elders, a warning for everyone in Renegade territory to stay away.

“Meadow, I need to ask you for a favor. When you shift into Rebel, I want you to find that territory and just lie there near the border. I am hoping that you and Rebel will be able to pull Major out, that he will finally be able to get control of Arion.” Elder Morton explains.

“When can I shift?” I ask, eager to help my Uncle to regain control again.

Half an hour later I am standing near the tree line and Rebel is wagging her tail, excited to go for a run. I was warned that it might be painful and that it might take a little time to finish my shift. Well, guess again. My shift lasted less than a second, Rebel pushed forward and there I went to the back of her mind.

It is strange to see the world through her eyes, but at the same time it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Everything seems more detailed and brighter than in my Human form, I squeal the moment Rebel start running.

It is the most amazing feeling ever and now I understand what Dawson had talked about, when he tried to explain to me what is was like to run around in his Lycan form.

Rebel finds the territory that Uncle Major inhabits and after walking around it completely, she lies down on the forest floor.

The sun is shining through the roof of trees and we look at everything around us, just waiting for anything.

“Meadow, it is almost dinner time.” Elder Chelsea says through the mind-link and Rebel slowly gets up to walk away, looking over her shoulder one more time before heading back to the Elder Residence.

For the next week, I shift into Rebel every single day and she runs to Uncle Major’s territory as fast as she can. She lies down in the same spot every time and we keep looking at everything around us, but he doesn’t show himself.

I know he might never be ready to face the world again, but I cling to a tiny piece of hope that our presence is what he needs. Whether it is to keep living or to return to his old self, that isn’t important.

I think the only thing Rebel and I really want, is to see him every now and then and it doesn’t matter if he will be in Lycan form or Human form. Just something that tells me that I am not completely alone in the world.

Meadow’s p.o.v.

My first week in Renegade territory has passed quickly, I keep to myself most of the time and if I have to interact with anyone I always seek out another girl.

During training it is a bit more difficult, but I have only had to face a male three times during training and each time it was a disaster.

The first time I had to spar with a male, I had decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and that was a huge mistake. I thought he was really willing to teach me and to explain certain things to me, but in the end he used it to try and humiliate me.

I didn’t do anything to put him back in his place and that is probably why the second male tried to pull the same stunt. Again I decided to let it go, I didn’t want to start trouble in my first week and that was my mistake.

The third male wasn’t so lucky. Rebel was fed up with all those males trying to put me down and she grab him by the throat when he was making a remark towards his friends.

“Mess with us again and you won’t survive.” She had growled, her face less than an inch away from his and I saw fear flashing through his eyes.

Elder Morton had a talk with me and after that he called in the three males, reprimanding them for their poor behavior towards me.

It didn’t stop them from trying to mess with me, each of them tried to trick me into going somewhere I shouldn’t be and each time they said that Elder Morton has sent them. Each of them ended up in the infirmary with some serious injuries and I informed Elder Morton and Elder Chelsea of what they had tried to do.

I thought Elder Morton understood that I didn’t trust easily, but if I had known what would happen next I might have left without a word.

I wake up to a very excited Rebel, pacing back and forth in my head. Today we are going to get our Renegade Warrior exam and I hope that the training I got from my friends is enough to help me pass.

Elder Morton will come to bring me to the training grounds in half an hour and I decide to go over my final preparations for my classes to become a Renegade Tech. I have all my books and everything else I might need for those classes.

A knock on the door pulls me away from my task and when I open the door I am faced with an unknown male. I am only sure about one thing, he is not an Elder.

“Follow me.” He says and without waiting for a response from me, he walks away.

For a moment I am stunned, not sure what to do and I contemplate on closing the door for a second. I decide to follow him at a distance, not really trusting the situation.

I can find my own way to the training grounds, but according to the regulations an Elder has to escort me there. The uneasy feeling I had, becomes stronger when I see him walking in the wrong direction and I turn around to head back to my room.

On my way back to my room, I try to link Elder Morton but he has a block up and I decide it is better to wait in my room. I sit down behind my desk and I start working on the next assignment from one of my books.

My door opens and I see a very angry looking Eldere Morton standing in the doorway. “Why aren’t you at the training grounds?” He asks and I am not sure if he is expecting an honest answer.
