Chapter 17 – Claiming His Enemy’s Daughter

It was Hanna who came to get her. Iris didn’t know how she knew she was there, but she was grateful.

“Come here, Miss, I will help you carry her.” Hanna wanted to carry the little girl, but she wrapped her arms around Iris’ neck so tightly, she didn’t want to let her go.

“I think we need to find her parents.” Iris was out of breath, so it was a great task for her to carry the girl in her arms while they were walking, even though she leaned heavily on Hanna, as she helped her.

“I think this is Stone’s daughter, the slave trainer,” Hanna muttered. “I heard he lost his daughter during the attack.”

Iris stumbled forward and she almost lost her balance, she couldn’t bring herself to walk further than this with the girl stuck to her like a koala.

“Come, sit here, I will inform Stone about this,” Hanna said in panic. Iris looked like she was at her limit right now and she would collapse any time at this rate. “The area is safe now, I will come back quickly, okay?”

Iris nodded her head, though she stopped reading what Hanna was saying, because she was very exhausted. Her head was so dizzy and every muscle in her body screamed in agony, her vision was blurry, but she hugged the little girl protectively.

She was no longer trembling and her breath was even, but Iris couldn’t tell whether she was sleeping or not.

And when Hanna came back with Stone and a few people to where she left Iris and the girl alone, both of them had lost their consciousness, while Iris hugged the girl so close, as if she would shield her with her own fragile body.

Stone was stunned for a moment at this sight, so did all the people that came with him.

“Is she trying to protect the girl?” One of them asked incredulously.

“Her? Gerald’s daughter?”

“Impossible.”

“But, why is she hugging her like that?”

They wouldn’t be surprised if she threw the little girl as a bait to buy time for her to escape from the monsters, but to protect a lowborn like Stone’s daughter? That didn’t make any sense to them.

After all, all of them had suffered under Gerald’s cruelty and they knew there was not a single bone of kindness in him.

“I want to take your daughter and bring her to you, but she refused to let her go.” Hanna explained, as Stone took his daughter from the unconscious Iris, while Hanna cradled her missy, looking so panicked because her body was burning. She got a fever again. “Sir, can you help me? Can you take her back? Her body is burning.”

Stone glared at Hanna. “Why would I help the evil alpha’s daughter?!” He snarled, while hugging his daughter to his chest.

“Her father is evil, but she protected your daughter’s life with hers,” Hanna pleaded with Stone. “She is not like her father.”

“Her father is evil, but she protected your daughter’s life with hers,” Hanna pleaded with Stone. “She is not like her father.”

“She is the seed of her father, what do you mean that she is nothing like him? Just because she was born as a runt, she is not as wicked as her father?” One of the slave trainers chimed in.

However, Hanna looked at them pleadingly. “Please… if it is not for her, at the very least, please, do it for me, I have helped you so much in the past.”

Hanna was talking about the time when they were still slaves for Alpha Gerald and how she helped them as much as she could, even though she was only a servant.

Because of that, many people from the Howling Wolf pack knew her and were very grateful for what she had done for them. Hanna could live a good life rather than following the daughter of the wicked alpha, but she chose the latter.

They couldn’t understand why she was so fond of this young girl.

“I have done so much for you.” Hanna didn’t like to mention this, but she would do anything to save her missy.

Stone clenched his jaw. They wouldn’t have a second thought to help Hanna, but to help Alpha Gerald’s daughter, the pain and torture that they had to endure for a decade was still fresh in their memories and some of them would have it for the rest of their lives, marring their skin.

“Take her to her room and call a healer for her.”

It was Alpha Cane who walked toward the commotion with his shirt drenched in blood, but it was obvious that it was not his blood, but of those monsters, while his other injuries had started to heal.

“Yes, alpha…” Only then, they moved to help Hanna to take Iris, since it was their alpha’s order and they didn’t have the capacity to refuse that.

“Thank you, Alpha. Thank you so much!” Hanna bowed a few times to Cane before she followed the man, who carried Iris on his back. She was crying to see Iris’ condition.

On the other hand, Cane followed her movement with his sharp eyes.

He heard about what Hanna had done to his people and he helped Iris as a token for her good deed. But, it still didn’t sit right with him to see how loyal Hanna was to Iris, even though Alpha Gerald’s reign had ended.

The man carried Iris’ body to the slave room, the one she shared with Hanna and laid her down on the bed gently, and the healer came not long after that.

“I wonder why you have to cry for her.” The healer looked at Hanna, not able to understand the tears that streamed down her cheeks.

“She doesn’t deserve this,” she replied softly.

The healer regarded her sharply. “She deserved every painful moment.”

Hanna clamped her mouth shut, she held herself from talking back to her.

“Not only the king will be here, but the alpha from the five packs will be here as well.” Ethan clicked his tongue, as he read the five messages from the five alphas that informed them of their arrival. “What is this? Are they trying to oppress us? Showing their power, so we will not merge the two packs?”

Ethan didn’t like this situation at all.

“No, they will not do that,” Jace said lightly. “They are coming to see Iris.”

Both of them were in the library, this was a quiet place, where the beta preferred to do his job, since the scenery from here was beautiful and it gave a sense of peacefulness to him.

Something that he appreciated the most. This sense of peacefulness was something that he could only dream of when they spent their days in slavery.
