Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 17 – Not Your Mistress. Alpha.

“Do not call me that. I said leave. Leave!”

Then I cried and that made me even more furious. I hated giving him that satisfaction.

It was Charley who finally stepped in.

“Alpha Johan please” she begged him. “She is getting worse every time you come in. Her wolf cannot calm down like this.”

Johan paused. Then he nodded slowly.

“Take care of her” he murmured to Charley before walking away.

I watched him leave with hatred curling in my chest.

Later that night I asked Charley who she was because I knew she was not Vale Pack.

“You smell different” I said. “So who are you really?”

She smiled gently. “I am from Springbrookes Pack. I was the one who found you by the road.”

I narrowed my eyes. “So why are you here? None of Johan’s staff likes me. They would gladly hurt me if they could.”

She shook her head. “I am not like them. I came because you needed help. That is all.”

Her actions matched her words. I could not deny that.

When I woke up shaking, she was there.

When the fever hit, she held a cold cloth to my forehead.

When my cast hurt, she rubbed my shoulder gently.

She brushed my hair when my arm was too weak.

She cleaned my wounds like she genuinely cared.

She made me tea, soup, warm bread.

She did everything a real caregiver would.

But something was wrong.

She always had her phone in hand. Always dialing the same number. Always sighing when no one answered.

I kept watching her.

“Bad signal?” I asked once.

She startled slightly. “Something like that.”

She lied. I did not push. But I noticed.

Five days passed before they finally discharged me.

Johan avoided me. Probably afraid I would throw a chair at him.

I counted down the time until my visa arrived. Two days. Two days and I would never see him or this cursed pack again.

Charley checked my cast again that morning.

“You are healing well” she said. “I will cook lunch. After that we can go to your checkup. Please rest until I come back.”

I nodded. Then the moment she stepped into the kitchen I grabbed the car keys.

“I am not a damn invalid” I muttered, forcing my left hand to grip the steering wheel.

Driving one-armed hurt like hell but I managed. My wolf grumbled approval.

The infirmary looked empty when I arrived. Too empty. I walked down the hallway toward Dr. Oaken’s office.

Then I heard Suzette.

Her voice slithered out of a half open door.

“Update my health report now” Suzette snapped. “I need something to show Johan. He has to believe my illness is getting worse.”

Dr. Oaken sounded horrified. “Luna the record we stole from the real patient cannot be used anymore. She passed away. If anyone checks the system, it will not match. Please let me tell Alpha Johan your condition is improving-“

“No!” Suzette screamed. “I want that record. Johan needs to believe I am still sick. Do it. I do not care how you make it happen.”

For a moment it felt like the whole hallway tilted under my feet. Suzette was not just faking her sickness. She was rewriting reality itself, bending every rule, every healer, every record just to keep Johan chained to her.

Desperate woman!

“You are asking too much Luna Suzette. This falsification cannot continue. You placed me at risk when you took credit for the soul bone transplant using our healers. Please do not ask more” Dr. Oaken said, sounding terrified.

“Do not pretend you suffered more than I did” Suzette snapped. “I needed that credit. Johan needed to believe I saved him. If he knew the truth he would have left me.”

My heart slammed against my ribs.

She lied. She lied about everything. She lied about the transplant. She lied about being sick. She lied so Johan would stay.

I pressed my hand against the wall, dizzy.

Why did she always need what was mine?

Why did she want my father’s love only for herself?

Why did she steal the necklace he gave me?

Why did she want my identity as the Alchemist of LunaSkin?

Why did she take credit for the soul bone I sacrificed?

Why did she want my life ruined over and over?

Before I could breathe a nurse spotted me.

“Excuse me. Who is out there?”

Suzette’s voice cut through the air. “Who is there?”

I turned to run.

Too late.

Suzette stormed out and yanked my hair so hard my vision blurred.

“You little eavesdropping rat” she hissed. “How much did you hear?”

“Let go of me” I spat, clawing at her hand.

She slammed me into the wall.

“Dr. Oaken inject her. Use the paralyzer.”

Dr. Oaken backed away. “Luna Suzette please. Johan will kill me. This is murder. I cannot.”

“If she lives you lose everything” Suzette said. “If she dies you walk free. Choose.”

He shook violently.

“No” I growled. “Touch me and I swear you will regret it.”

I tried to shift. My wolf tried too. But we were too weak.

Suzette shoved me to the floor. I hit hard. Pain shot through my ribs.

“Hold her down” she ordered.

The nurse pinned me. Dr. Oaken grabbed my arm.

“Please do not make me do this” he whispered.

“Then do not” I snapped.

“She will ruin us” Suzette barked. “Inject her now.”

“No!” I screamed. “No no no get away from me!”

I thrashed, kicked, clawed. My nails broke. My throat ripped from screaming. My wolf howled with me.

The needle punched into my skin.

A burning chill spread fast.

My limbs stopped moving.

My throat closed.

My tongue went numb.

My eyes stayed open.

But I was awake.

I was awake in a body that refused to listen.
