Chapter 18 – Alpha Killian

**************************************

“What happened back there?” Vladimir asked, frowning in confusion as he saw me walking out of the suite.

Eleanor was asleep in my bedroom after the encounter, and I couldn’t help but find myself thinking of what happened earlier.

“I’m not sure,” I said, not wanting to get into details. “But we are going to need a different approach if we are going to find out who this woman is.”

“What do you mean?” He asked, frowning in confusion.

“She is my mate,” I said, knowing that I didn’t need to hide anything from Vladimir. The man and I were brothers by choice. Having grown up together, we both knew that we didn’t have any secrets from one another. There were things that were private that we chose not to discuss, but none of them would include secrets when it came to our friendship.

“How the fuck is she your mate if you didn’t…?”

“That is what I intend to find out,” I said, stopping him. The fact that I couldn’t feel her wolf was something that I couldn’t understand, but judging by her reaction, I could tell that there was more to this than what I knew. Therefore, I knew to choose a different approach. Though what that approach would be, I don’t really know. I just know that we had to get to the bottom of what was going on. “I’ll need to earn her trust to understand what is going on. Something is scaring her, maybe she’s hiding from someone, or maybe she did something that she doesn’t want anyone to find out…”

“Won’t that be too dangerous if that was the case?” He asked, stopping me and I shook my head.

“I doubt it,” I said, taking in the situation that I saw. No matter how good an actor was, I knew that her racing heartbeat, her shaking hands, and her wide frightened eyes were not an act. Something was wrong, I just didn’t know what it was. “But regardless, we will be keeping a close eye on her. I don’t want us to end up with a mess that neither one of us wants to handle, nor do I want us dealing with an unnecessary mess. The two of us will be the only ones who know of this and we will be keeping close eye on her. And that means her phone, her card, and where she spends any of her money, who she sends them to, whether or not she has family. We will be knowing about all of this,”

“But what if she gives out any information to anyone? You and I both know that things can be dangerous and she’s in charge of cleaning your things.” Vladimir said and I nodded knowing that he was right. The woman spent most of her day here in the room and away from anyone’s eyes. Therefore, it could be risky to actually take the chance of blindly trusting her.

“We’ll assign Natasha to help her.” I said, and he raised an amused eyebrow, knowing why I chose Natasha in specific. “If anyone knows how to get all the secrets of this house, it is her…”

Eleanor:

I frowned as I opened my eyes to find myself curled up in a black duvet.

The blanket that I had in my room, if I could call it that, was white.

I sat up as the door opened, and my heart raced as I caught sight of the Alpha entering his bedroom.

His eyes met mine and he studied my expression for a few seconds before taking his jacket off and rolling up his sleeves.

The blanket was on my lap, and I had to fight my every instinct that begged me to run away and just hide.

The fear that consumed me was one that reminded me of Elton, and that wasn’t something that I wanted. And considering that he asked who I was, it meant that he probably knew that I was Elton’s fiancé.

“How do you feel?” He asked, taking me off guard. I didn’t respond as I looked down at my lap, anticipating what was to come.

There were three options in this; the man was either going to send me back to Elton who would end up killing me. He could hold me hostage and use me for a ransom to gain something out of it, and when Elton got me back, I was dead. Or he could end up killing me himself. And I had to admit, him killing me was going to be a lot easier than whatever Elton would have planned for me.

The Alpha stayed quiet as he waited for my response before he nodded and walked to the bathroom. He didn’t say a word, but I could hear the water running inside before he walked out with a small white towel.

I watched as he walked toward his bar and couldn’t help the frown that formed on my lips as he opened the fridge and pulled out two ice cubes. His eyes were fixed on them for a second too long as he placed them in the middle of the towel.

His eyes met mine as he walked toward me and I couldn’t help the frown that formed on my lips as I tried flinching, not wanting him to touch me as I watched him sitting on the edge of the bed beside me, taking me by surprise. “Ice would soothe the pain that’s on your wrist,”

He extended his hand for me but I didn’t have it in me to extend my hand to him. Normally, when Elton wanted to be nice, it was to simply get inside my head before he hurt me more than I would be able to handle, and that wasn’t something that I wanted to deal with right now.

“I am not going to hurt you, Eleanor,” he said, his voice softer than it was earlier. I looked down at his hand and shook my head.

“You hurt me earlier,” I said, my voice smaller than I intended for it to be. I avoided looking at him and he sighed.
