When he was done, he pinned my contact to the top of his list, too.
I blinked, surprised. Unless my eyes were playing tricks on me, I might be the only one he’d pinned.
“Oh, I’m home now. I’ll head up first.” I was flustered and just wanted to escape the strange tension lingering in the air.
“Deanna.”
I paused and turned back.
“Yeah?”
Luis rolled the window down and looked at me, his voice low and gentle. “Good night.”
My heart skipped a beat, and my face flushed with warmth. I mumbled “Good night” and hurried inside.
…
Philip’s POV:
The moment I stepped into the office, I was met with an overwhelming surprise.
Mooncrown Pack had just offered to invest eight billion dollars in the Moonline Expansion Project – double the original proposal.
I could barely contain my excitement. I immediately turned to my assistant. “Get Jillian in here, now. We’re about to finalize the contract with Mooncrown’s representative.”
Jillian once mentioned she knew Luis, the Alpha of Mooncrown Pack.
Turns out she wasn’t bluffing. Raising her might’ve actually paid off.
I really underestimated her this time. She actually convinced Luis to back the project with eight billion dollars just like that.
Could Luis actually be interested in Jillian?
If Jillian manages to reel in someone like him and marries into the Mooncrown Pack, Mistbane’s social standing would soar.
And our fortune would multiply in no time.
The thought alone had me grinning from ear to ear.
Jillian’s POV:
When I found out Luis had invested eight billion dollars, I was stunned.
Just days ago, he didn’t seem the least bit interested in the Moonline Expansion Project.
I couldn’t help but wonder what made him change his mind – and why he’d suddenly double the investment.
I called to confirm. “Are you sure Mooncrown Pack actually invested?”
“It’s true, Ms. Jillian!” the assistant replied excitedly. “Even the Alpha said it was all because of you. That’s the only reason Mistbane Pack got the deal. He also said you handled it brilliantly.
“Not just him – everyone’s talking about it. You’ve impressed the entire company. If you join the team officially, your talents will completely outshine Deanna’s. The future of Mistbane Pack could be in your hands.”
All that praise made me feel invincible.
Maybe Luis really was charmed – by my looks, my effort, or both.
“I’m on my way to the office,” I said before hanging up.
Inside my walk-in closet, I pulled out a bold red velvet dress. It had a deep V neckline and a flowing skirt shaped like flower petals.
I’d had it custom-designed by a top werewolf designer. It cost me three million dollars – my entire monthly allowance.
I’d saved it just for an important moment like this.
I slipped into it, twirled in front of the mirror, and admired my reflection.
I looked breathtaking. No wonder Luis couldn’t resist.
The thought of him – tall, commanding, a pureborn Alpha – sent a rush of excitement through me.
Anyone would want someone like him.
I checked the time, opened the door, and hurried out – only to nearly collide with my adoptive mom, Kathryn, who had just returned home.
“Whoa, Jillian. Where are you rushing off to? And why are you all glammed up?”
I gave her a big hug, practically beaming.
“Mom, your daughter just made it big! Luis invested eight billion into Mistbane Pack because of me!
“He’s totally into me. I’m this close to becoming Luna of the Mooncrown Pack!”
Kathryn raised an eyebrow. “Seriously?”
“Dead serious! Dad called and told me to come sign the contract with him. He even promised me shares as a reward. It’s all happening, Mom!”
Kathryn smiled proudly. “Oh, my sweetheart Jillian, you really are my shining star.”
I smirked with confidence. “See? I told you I’m better than Deanna. I care about our pack more than anyone else. I’m the one actually working for its future.”
“You’ve always been my favorite,” Kathryn said warmly. “Wait for me – I’ll get changed and head to the office with you.”
…
Deanna’s POV:
As soon as I stepped into the office, I sensed the shift – people were rushing about like something major had just dropped.
I flagged down a colleague from planning. “What’s going on? Is there an event? Did something happen?”
“Ms. Wiley, the Mooncrown Pack just confirmed an investment in the Moonline Expansion Project. The Alpha’s throwing a formal meeting.”
We secured the investment? Luis moves that fast?
I frowned. “Why wasn’t I informed?”
The colleague from planning hesitated before lowering her voice. “I think this meeting’s mostly to finalize the contract and present
Ms. Jillian with an award.”
I narrowed my eyes. Something felt off.
“Why is Jillian being credited for Mooncrown Pack’s investment?”
She stammered, unable to answer.
Then came the sound of sharp heels against tile, followed by a haughty voice behind me.
“That’s because I’m the one who locked down the funding for the Moonline Expansion Project.”
I turned to see Jillian strutting in, arm-in-arm with Kathryn.
Both were dressed like they’d just walked off a red carpet – glittering gowns, overdone makeup, way too much flash for the office.
“Dad probably didn’t want to hurt your feelings,” Jillian sneered, “or maybe he just figured you didn’t matter enough to invite.”
People paused and turned toward us.
And in that moment, it all made sense.
Philip must’ve assumed Jillian was the one who landed the deal with Mooncrown Pack.
That was the only reason this whole meeting was even taking place.
I kept my expression neutral. “Are you sure you’re the one who brought in the Mooncrown Pack investment?”
Her eyes narrowed. “What’s your point?”
“I think you heard me just fine.”
She raised her chin with smug defiance. “Deanna, I get that you’re bitter because Luis chose to work with me while your beloved Jake can’t deliver a thing. But don’t stress. We’re all doing this for Mistbane Pack. I’ll even let Dad know you tried your best.”
I gave her a cold look. “Jillian, do I look like I need your help?”
“Ugh, why are you always so negative?” she snapped. “First, you ruin my necklace, and now you’re calling me a liar. We’re sisters – can’t you show a little decency, just once? Do it for Mom and Dad, at least. Or does it just kill you inside that I’m better at everything?”
She tugged dramatically on Kathryn’s arm. “Mom, you see? Deanna’s at it again. I worked so hard to bring in this deal with Luis, and now she’s doubting me.”
This was just unbelievable. All I did was ask a simple question – if she was really the one who secured the investment.
And now she’s twisting the whole thing, painting me as the villain.
As expected, Kathryn fell for the act – just like she always did.
Right on cue, Kathryn chimed in, her brows drawn. “Deanna, don’t treat Jillian like that. I get that you’re upset, but she really earned this. You’re the one who didn’t step up. And you still haven’t apologized to Jake – do you think he’ll just wait around forever? Keep acting like this, and he’s going to walk away.”
Around us, a crowd was forming – quiet, watching, whispering.
“I’m telling you, Jillian’s got a solid shot at taking over Mistbane Pack someday.”
“No joke. When Deanna joined, she was just another employee. But Jillian? The moment she stepped in, she carried herself like the Alpha’s heiress. That kind of confidence doesn’t come out of nowhere – she must’ve been doted on by the Alpha and Luna.”
Deanna’s POV:
I was fuming inside, but my face stayed perfectly composed.
Every time I clashed with Jillian, Kathryn would take her side – without ever stopping to consider who was actually right. I used to just walk away.
I kept telling myself I didn’t care that she favored Jillian.
That I didn’t mind if she loved her more.
That I was simply too dignified to stoop to their level.
