Chapter 22 – Tale Of The Shadow Sister

Sometime later, after they returned home from the drug store, Elora’s heart raced as she held the pregnancy test in her trembling hands. She entered the restroom, her mind filled with a tumult of emotions. After performing the test, she set the timer and waited anxiously.

Minutes felt like hours as she stared at the test, her heart pounding in her chest. One million things crossed her mind while waiting. It was just not possible for her to be pregnant; it would be crazy.

When the time came to read the result, she closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and then opened them slowly.

As she exited the restroom, her eyes met Mary’s, who was waiting anxiously. With tears glistening in her eyes, Elora whispered, “I’m pregnant.” Her voice trembled with shock and disbelief, the weight of the news settling heavily upon her.

Elora’s tears flowed freely as she confided in Mary, her panic palpable in the air. Mary’s comforting presence helped to soothe her frayed nerves as she handed Elora a cup of peppermint tea.

“Here, drink this,” Mary said gently, offering the warm cup to her. “It’ll help calm your nerves.”

Taking the cup with shaking hands, Elora took a few sips before setting it down on the coffee table. “Thank you, Mary,” she murmured, her voice choked with emotion.

Mary nodded, her expression filled with concern. “Now, tell me, what’s going through your mind?”

“I’m terrified, Mary,” Elora admitted, her voice trembling. “I don’t even know how to take care of myself properly. And now, with a baby on the way… it’s terrifying. I am only 18, no family, no support, no money.”

Mary listened attentively, her heart aching for the young woman before her. “You’re stronger than you think, Lora,” she said gently. “We’ll figure this out together. But first, we need to know more about the father. Do you remember anything about him?”

Elora furrowed her brow in concentration, trying to recall the details of that fateful encounter in the forest. “All I remember is that he smelled like musk,” she said slowly. “And he had an old scar on his collarbone. And that, after what happened between us, he is an Alpha,” she added, blushing.

Mary nodded, absorbing the information. “That’s not much,” she said thoughtfully. “Where did you meet him in the area?”

“He was on the Royal pack’s property.” Elora added in shock.

“Hmm.. This is not helping too much, as King Markus has guests all the time, so it could be anyone. But for now, try to relax. We’ll take this one step at a time.”

Feeling a glimmer of hope, Elora nodded gratefully. “Thank you, Mary,” she said softly. “I don’t know what I’d do without you. But I am really scared.”

Mary listened attentively as Elora expressed her fears and concerns, her heart heavy with understanding.

“I believe the main question here is, do you want to keep the baby? You will not be judged if you decide otherwise.” Mary asked gently, her eyes filled with compassion.

Elora cupped her stomach with trembling hands, feeling a surge of warmth spread through her chest. Despite her panic and uncertainty, she couldn’t deny the life inside her. “Yes,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “I know it is selfish but, I want the baby.”

Mary nodded in understanding; her expression filled with concern. “I understand your fears, Lore,” she said softly. “But you’re not alone in this. We’ll find a way to keep you and the baby safe.”

Elora’s eyes filled with tears as she nodded, grateful for Mary’s unwavering support. “Thank you, Mary, but my biggest fear is that he or she will be born a rogue, so their entire lives will be mistreated by others. Plus, I don’t have my wolf anymore, so how can I be a good mother to help when the shifting time will come?” she said, her voice choked with emotion.

Mary reached out and squeezed Elora’s hand reassuringly. “We’ll figure this out together. Don’t overthink it for the moment. It is important for you to be healthy,” she said firmly.

“After all that happened, I never imagined that this would be a possibility.” Elora replied, still in shock.

“But we also need to consider that this is an alpha’s baby,” Mary added after a moment, her tone serious. “Alpha kids are known to be stubborn, dominant, and born leaders. Raising him or her will be a challenge. Plus, if the father comes across the baby, as per our werewolf laws, he has full rights to his baby as they are heirs to the pack’s legacy. This is a big risk, as if he is not a good man, he could take your baby from you.”

Elora’s heart sank at the reminder of their laws. “I know,” she murmured, her mind swirling with worries and doubts. “But I’ll do whatever it takes to protect the baby. Plus, I am planning to stay away from the packs and alphas.”

“OK, sweetie. I believe the next step is to find a doctor for you. A were doctor considering that this is an alpha child who will come earlier, as these pregnancies are much shorter. Plus, it can be dangerous for you, sweetie, as the baby is well known to grow the most in the last 2 months and when a human is carrying the pregnancy, a lot of complications can arise. Considering your timeline, I believe you are already at the middle of your term,” Mary added.

“A were doctor?” Elora said terrified, “No one will accept to treat me, Mary. I am a rogue.”

“No were doctor needs to know that you are a rogue. You don’t have a wolf anymore, so we can say that you got pregnant with a werewolf. I will ask Doctor Luigi from my pack if he can see you as a favor. No one will know about it, I swear.” Mary replied.

“OK, but Mary, I am really scared, and I don’t want to be a burden. But my heart is not letting me give up on this baby. I promise that I will work as much as I can to repay your kindness. I am just so ashamed; I feel so powerless.”

“Don’t overthink it, sweet girl. We will get through this together.” Mary replied to her full of encouragement.

Mary wasted no time after her conversation with Elora. She reached out to Doctor Luigi, a respected retired werewolf doctor from her pack, who agreed to see Elora for a consultation in the human hospital, outside the pack’s grounds.

A few days later, after examining Elora, Doctor Luigi gave her recommendations and warned her about the high risks associated with carrying a werewolf and an alpha’s baby. Elora listened attentively; her heart heavy with concern for her unborn child.

Elora underwent a scan at the hospital, and it was confirmed that she was carrying a baby boy. Mary’s expression grew even more serious as she relayed the news to Elora.

“This complicates things even more,” Mary said once they were alone, her voice tinged with worry. “Your son could potentially be the pack’s future alpha, so if his father finds him, he has the right to take him from you. Plus, his personality will be like fire, as despite you being human now, you are coming from a Beta lineage, so the child will have strong genes.”
