Elora couldn’t help but smile through her tears at her son’s protective instincts. She assured him that nothing was wrong, her voice shaky but filled with reassurance. As she wiped away her tears,
Mary shook her head with a knowing smile. “You’ve got a future alpha on your hands, look at his attitude,” she remarked, her eyes twinkling with pride. “What’s next for you, Elora?”
Elora beamed as she shared her news with Mary, excitement bubbling in her chest. “I got a position as a resident doctor at the hospital,” she announced, barely able to contain her joy. Mary’s shout of happiness echoed through the room, her eyes sparkling with pride.
Curious about her future plans, Mary asked what specialization Elora had in mind. With a thoughtful smile, Elora admitted that she hadn’t decided yet. “I want to try out multiple specialties before I commit,” she explained.
“This is fantastic news, Lora, but there is more in life than work and work. You need to live a bit, maybe date someone.” Mary looked at her while winking.
“Mary, you never stop. You know my position regarding dating. Plus, I have Asher in my life, and he, is enough to make me happy. Our lives are complete,” Elora replied.
Mary shook her head but decided to drop it from the moment.
In the weeks that followed, Elora began her new role at the hospital. Despite her familiarity with the staff and the layout, stepping into the emergency room for her first shift was a nerve-wracking experience. The fast-paced environment tested her skills and resolve, but she faced each challenge with determination and a steady hand.
Elora marveled at how quickly she adapted to the hospital routine, soaking up knowledge from the seasoned doctors around her, and she realized that her place was in a hospital, as she had always dreamed about. With each passing day, she grew more confident in her role, finding her stride in the bustling environment.
However, one fateful shift brought an unexpected twist that would change her life forever. Alone in the examination room, Elora welcomed a small boy with a broken finger after a PE class. His tears tugged at her heartstrings, evoking memories of her own son, Asher. As she reached out to comfort him, a strange sensation tingled through her fingertips. To her astonishment, a soft yellow light emanated from her touch, enveloping the boy’s injured hand.
In awe, Elora watched as the boy’s tears ceased, replaced by a look of wonder. With bated breath, she examined his finger, finding it miraculously healed. A rush of panic flooded through her as she realized what had just happened. She quickly wrapped the finger in a bandage and told the teacher that it was just a superficial injury and that nothing was broken.
After that, she asked someone to cover her and rushed to find Mary inside the hospital. She asked to speak in private, and after they were together, she told her what happened. Mary looked at her in shock, “Are you sure, Lora?”
“Mary, I finished Med School. I believe I am capable of diagnosing a broken finger. And the light was not my imagination,” Elora replied in tension.
“And it has never happened before?” Mary asked.
“In the past, it happened to see something like a light when I touched Asher before his sleep, but I always put it on being too tired and imaging things,” Elora replied confused.
“And why didn’t you say anything?” Mary replied.
“I did not want you to consider me crazy. I know that special wolves exist, but I am not one anymore. Plus, I was an omega, so don’t forget this.” Elora told her in a hushed voice.
After a moment of thinking, Mary told her, “I heard about some rare situations like yours in our history, of healing wolves. Usually, the Goddess bestows someone with this gift only when a big threat is on the horizon, threatening the werewolf’s kind balance.”
“This time the Goddess made a mistake, as I am no one’s savior. I am human now, and I have a son to protect. The last thing I want is to get involved in the pack’s politics or appear on anyone’s radar. I am on the Terror list and I have Asher to worry about. Plus, you remember where I ended up last time: left to die in a river by my own pack and family. So, no, thank you.” Lora said, before leaving Mary alone.
Mary looked after her and replied to herself, “We are all born with a destiny, and it seems that you have just discovered yours.”
Elora’s seamless integration into the hospital’s roster was nothing short of remarkable. With each passing day, she proved herself to be a dependable member of the medical team, earning the trust and respect of her colleagues. Despite her remarkable abilities, she kept her gift hidden, especially as she was working in a human hospital.
As time went on, Elora discovered that her abilities extended beyond mere physical healing. With a gentle touch and closed eyes, she could sense the underlying diseases afflicting her patients, pinpointing the affected areas with uncanny accuracy. This newfound skill both fascinated and unnerved her, serving as a constant reminder of the extraordinary nature of her abilities. She was still in awe sometimes, wondering why the Goddess gifted her this ability.
Despite her curiosity and temptation to delve deeper into the realm of healing, Mary cautioned her against it. Without access to the royal archives or knowledge of the potential side effects of her ability, they remained in the dark about the true extent of her powers. As much as Elora longed to explore the full extent of her abilities, she understood the wisdom in Mary’s words, choosing to tread carefully. The last thing that she wanted to do was to hurt herself or reveal herself in front of humans.
At home, Elora faced a different set of challenges as she struggled with raising a son who seemed to be growing at an extraordinary rate. From the tender age of three, Asher exhibited traits that set him apart from his peers. His strength, agility, and intellect far surpassed those of other children his age, leaving Elora and Mary astounded by his abilities.
As Asher continued to grow, it became evident that he possessed a remarkable combination of physical prowess and mental acuity. Despite his young age, he towered over his classmates, his imposing stature a testament to his alpha heritage. While the teachers marveled at his advanced development and suggested that he might be gifted, Elora knew the truth: her son was destined to inherit the mantle of alpha, and with it, a wealth of pent-up energy and potential.
With each passing day, Elora found herself struggling to keep up with Asher’s boundless energy and insatiable curiosity. While she lacked his stamina and vitality, she was determined to provide him with the love, support, and guidance he needed to thrive. But it was not always easy.
As they sat on a blanket in the garden on one of the off days, watching Asher’s energetic antics with the ball, Mary couldn’t help but cast a fond yet concerned glance at the boy. “You know, Lora,” she began, her voice soft with affection, “Asher has truly hit the genetic jackpot. With his looks and brains, he’s bound to turn heads wherever he goes.”
Elora smiled proudly, her gaze following her son’s movements. “He’s got quite the presence, doesn’t he?” she replied, a hint of worry creeping into her voice. He was tall, with caramel skin and dark hair. The only thing that he inherited from her were the green eyes and the dimples from both cheeks.
“But sometimes I wonder if it’s a double-edged sword. His differences might make things harder for him in the long run.” Elora added in worry.
Mary nodded sympathetically, understanding the weight of Elora’s concerns. “It’s true. As he grows, he’ll only stand out more,” she agreed. “And with his unique traits, there’s a risk of drawing. unwanted attention.”
“Yeah,” Elora sighed, her gaze fixed on Asher as he darted across the garden. “I worry about when he gets older. We might have to consider homeschooling him to keep him safe.”
Mary placed a comforting hand on Elora’s shoulder. “We’ll figure it out together, but this might pose a big challenge. Don’t forget that the werewolves are social beings, and will suffer being away from their peers.”
“And what is the alternative, Mary? To be discovered by humans and taken to a scientific lab for analysis?” Elora snapped in panic.
