Thank God. Now I’d be able to kill June in peace.
The room went silent again, and I… I didn’t know what to feel.
I’d been ready to kill them all ten seconds ago. But now? They were fucking decoding hell from mere shadows and sounds.
I hated how fucking efficient they were.
Thank God Norlan hired them.
They were getting me closer to Kasmine. That was all that mattered.
Even if I had to burn through every ounce of pride to accept it.
“They’re not on land,” Saint confirmed. “He’s moving her across the sea.”
“Which sea?” I asked through clenched teeth.
“We’ll find out,” Kyrie said, already pulling up a digital maritime map. “But we just narrowed the search radius by ninety percent.”
Saint’s eyes were still on the screen.
“Now,” he said, in a voice lower than before, “we make the sea bleed.”
KASMINE.
The place was freezing. I couldn’t stop shaking.
My arms were numb. My legs were worse. I couldn’t feel my toes. Couldn’t even tell if they were still there. My skin burned from the cold, and every breath I drew in scraped my throat like sandpaper.
I was barely holding up.
My stomach twisted from hunger, and I could still taste bile. I’d thrown up whatever they’d tried to shove down my throat earlier. My lips were cracked. My throat was on fire. My wrists throbbed where the chains had bitten through.
I… I am going to die… I know this for sure.
I cried, but the tears no longer felt warm.
And in the middle of it all… There was one thought that kept crawling up my throat like a curse I couldn’t swallow.
I should have listened to Kester.
He was many things – aggressive, obsessive, reckless. But he was never wrong about the people around me.
He warned me about Jake thank Goodness he was dead. He deserved a death worse than the one he had.
I kept listening to my own stupid, stubborn instincts… The same stupidity and stubbornness that had also killed Claire. If I had listened to Kester and maybe let him take me to the pack himself that day, Claire would have still been alive.
I deserved every fucking second of this hell.
I wasn’t a Luna.
I wasn’t a friend.
I wasn’t even a fucking survivor.
I was a walking disaster that destroyed everyone who came too close.
I kept choosing others over Kester. Now, look where it got me.
Now, I was stuck in the belly of hell… and all I wanted was for that obsessed, controlling, maddening Alpha to find me.
It’s been days, I know. Even though the only thing I could see was nothing… Absolutely nothing. No windows, nothing!
Occasionally, I kept hearing the faint sounds of something whooshing. But I couldn’t tell what it was.
It felt like I wasn’t inside my body anymore, and maybe that was for the best. Because if I were still in my body… then I had to accept what had happened to it.
I was already living in fear. Nagel had tortured me mentally, violently, and physically.
After the first time he came in here and made me suck his cock, he’d come back for it two more times like it was a fucking ritual. And now I felt utterly disgusted. I hated every single cell in my body.
I swear to Selene, if he ever comes, in here again, I’d bite off that excuse of a cock he has, damming all the consequences that might come with it.
Just as the thoughts formed, the door creaked open, and I jerked up to a sitting position, even though the chains around my wrists and ankles didn’t let me move much.
I squinted my eyes to be able to catch the face of the person walking in.
This wasn’t Nagel. Nagel was taller, broader, and scarier… The kind of monster you feel before you see. This one… this one moved differently with swagger. Like he was about to crack a joke at a funeral.
“Well, hello, there, I heard the familiar voice call out as his legs ate up the distance. As the dim light touched him, his features came into focus, and my blood went ice-cold.
“K… Kex?” I called in stunned confusion as Alpha Kex spread out his white teeth for me to see.
“Yes, love,” he sounded delighted, as if we were lovers catching up after a vacation. “It is 1. Long time no see.”
He crouched to my level like he was some kind of friend.
I recoiled.
“What… what are you doing here?” My voice cracked. “What do you want?”
I’d be a fool to think that he came to save me or anything. This only meant he was working with Nagel. Oh, God. What other sick surprises were waiting?
“You don’t look so good, Kasmine,” he said, with that disgusting, fake concern that made my stomach turn. “They’re not taking good care of you here, huh?” His fingers trailed down my cold cheek, and I flinched instantly and tried to retreat, but he caught me harshly by my arm.
“Where are you running to, baby?” he hissed and yanked me back, causing me to yelp, “You’ve eluded me for so long, and now you think you can still make that choice?” He said through gritted teeth.
Again, I was wrong about people. The first time I saw Alpha Kex, I almost had a fight with Kester because I kept wondering why he had to fight with every good person there is to fight.
Kex looked deceptive. But he had proven to me more than once that looks can actually be deceptive.
“I’ve always wanted you, Kasmine…” He began, his gaze never leaving mine, I even sent my elders to come ask for your hand in marriage,” he chuckled, as if just realizing how stupid he had been all along. “And guess what happened?”
He paused, as if waiting for me to actually guess, but I shook my head frantically, fighting the tears that were welling in my eyes.
“Kester happened. He blurted out, “Fuck, how did you get entangled with that dick?’ He scoffed and shook his head as if I were the most pathetic thing he’d ever come across.
“Not only did he treat my elders like trash, he went a few steps further to humiliate me and my company before the board and our investors!”
There. He snapped there. And I flinched. But he maintained his composure immediately.
“Oh… Baby… Don’t cry,” He wiped off the tears that escaped my eyes. “Because I’ve also come to collect my own pound of flesh.”
With that, he yanked me forcefully to himself by my legs, making me hit my back harshly on the cold floor.
I screamed at the impact.
I felt my waist burning.
