Doctor Luigi raised an eyebrow at her response, his expression curious. He took a deep breath, his senses no doubt picking up on the alpha’s scent that clung to her.
“Are you sure you want to leave like this?” he asked, his voice gentle yet probing. “Without notifying your… host?”
“It’s better this way,” she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. “Please, can you help me get out of here?”
Doctor Luigi studied her for a moment, his expression unreadable. Then, with a nod, he motioned for her to follow him. As they made their way out of the pack’s territory, Elora couldn’t shake the feeling of relief mingled with apprehension. She was grateful for Doctor Luigi’s assistance, and she hoped that her encounter with Alpha Azriel was a one-night stand and nothing more.
The good doctor guided her to his car, and he drove her towards the city in silence. Elora texted Mary to let her know that she was OK and that she would be home soon.
Back in the pack’s territory, Azriel awoke with a stretch, his body feeling unusually refreshed from a deep slumber. The scent of lilac filled the air, teasing his senses as he blinked away the remnants of sleep. As he reached out to his side, his hand met only empty sheets, and he sat up with a frown of confusion knitting his brow.
“Where is she?” he muttered to himself, his mind still foggy with sleep. He inhaled deeply, seeking out the familiar scent of his dove, but found only the lingering traces in the air.
Panic shot through him as he realized she was not in the room. His senses sharpened, his wolf growling ferociously within him. “She’s not here,” he snarled, the realization hitting him like a physical blow.
In an instant, Azriel was on his feet, his movements fluid and urgent as he scanned the room for any sign of her. His keen eyes checked for her personal belongings, and his heart clenched with dread when he could not find one.
“She’s gone,” he breathed, the words heavy with disbelief and fury. Without hesitation, he surrendered to the primal instincts of his wolf, the need to find and reclaim her consuming him with an almost feral intensity.
“Find her,” his wolf commanded in a feral tone, while his wild instincts took over him, bringing him in a raging mode. “Bring our mate back to us”
As the car rolled to a stop in front of a coffee shop, Elora offered Doctor Luigi a grateful smile before reaching for the door handle.
“Thank you for the ride. I am very grateful for your help and I hope I can count on your discretion” she said, while blushing hard.
He nodded in response, but as she moved to step out of the car, he caught her eye, his expression curious. “No worries, Lora. So, you and Azriel…” he began, his tone trailing off suggestively.
Elora’s breath caught in her throat, her mind racing to formulate a response. “There is no ‘me and Azriel,” she answered firmly, her words tinged with a hint of defensiveness. “It was just a lapse of judgment on my behalf, which will not repeat.”
Doctor Luigi hummed in amusement, his eyes twinkling with knowing amusement. “Well, whatever you say,” he replied with a knowing smile.
With that, Elora stepped out of the car, the cool breeze of the morning air washing over her. She watched as Doctor Luigi’s car pulled away from the curb before turning her attention to the street from where she hailed a taxi.
Elora’s heart raced with each passing moment, her mind replaying the events of the night over and over again. The taxi ride home offered little respite, the rhythmic hum of the engine failing to drown out the chaotic whirlwind of emotions swirling inside her. She realized how lucky she was to meet doctor Luigi, as now she admitted her foolishness to try to leave a pack’s territory that was heavily guarded. She would have been discovered in a blink.
The taxi driver attempted to engage her in light conversation, but Elora’s responses were monosyllabic at best, her focus consumed by the tumultuous thoughts racing through her mind and trying to remain composed at least till she reached home.
Finally, the taxi pulled up outside the cottage, and Elora paid the fare with trembling hands before retrieving her keys and slipping inside. She kicked off her shoes in an effort to avoid making any noise that might wake Asher, but as she crept further into the cottage, she heard the faint sounds of movement coming from the kitchen.
Steeling herself, Elora made her way toward the source of the noise, her heart pounding in her chest. As she entered the kitchen, she found Mary bustling about, preparing breakfast in the soft glow of the early morning light.
The sight of Mary brought a rush of relief flooding through Elora, and she let out a shaky breath as she leaned against the door frame. “Mary,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. Since she met her, Mary has always been her rock, her voice of wisdom.
Mary was busy at the stove, flipping pancakes with practiced ease, her movements confident and sure. Sensing Lora, Mary turned with a playful grin. “Look who arrived. Good morning, sweetie,” she greeted, her tone light and teasing. “I hope you had a good night,” while she emphasized the word ” good” in a teasing voice.
Elora replied in a shaking voice. “More than ! bargained for,” her voice catching in her throat.
Mary’s brow furrowed with concern, and she set down the spatula, turning to face Elora fully. “Lora, sweetie, are you okay?” she asked, her tone now laced with genuine worry. “What happened? Are you hurt?” as she quickly took in her appearance.
Elora’s shoulders slumped, and she sank into a nearby chair, her expression haunted while her eyes filled with tears. “I… I don’t know where to start,” she admitted, her voice trembling. “It’s all such a mess.”
Mary moved swiftly to Elora’s side, her concern deepening. “Talk to me, you are scaring me.
Anyone hurt you?”
“No one hurt me, physically I am OK,” she replied as she tried to keep herself calm, but the panic feeling started to gather in her stomach..
When she approached her, Mary’s hand froze mid-air, her eyes widening in shock as Elora’s words sank in. “You… you reek of Azriel’s scent,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper, disbelief coloring her tone.
Elora’s gaze remained fixed on the ground, unable to meet Mary’s eyes as she confessed in a low voice, “I… I spent the night with him.”
Mary’s mouth fell open in astonishment, her shock evident in the way she blinked rapidly, trying to process the revelation. “Wow,” she finally managed to utter, her voice tinged with a mixture of surprise and disbelief. “You really know how to recover lost time. You really chose from the top shelf.”
Mary’s concern deepened as she observed Elora’s panicked expression. “Why do you look so down?” she inquired gently, her voice laced with worry. “Are you not happy with what happened between you and Azriel? He did something to you?”
