“Are you in pain?” I asked
“No” She answered and looked around “What…” Her eyes widened and she looked terrified “Scott.. he”
She started to cough and Koda started patting her back gently “Just breathe baby” He told her “Give her something!”
Bradley nodded and walked over to a cabinet and rummaged around for something before coming back over with a syringe of clear liquid
“It’s a muscle relaxant and painkiller, it should help her throat” He told us as he sat down beside my girl and pushed the needle into her lower throat near my marking area
Madelyn cringed a little “You hurt her!” Koda growled
“Shut up and let him do his job!”
“Luna, I’m going to check your throat, with your permission of course”
Madelyn looked so frail and afraid but she nodded and gripped my hand tighter as Bradley felt around her thoat.
Koda growled angrily as the healer touched our mate but he turned and went to look out the window with clentched fists until the examination was over.
The door opened and the nurse returned and passed me a straw before leaving again
“Well the swelling is completely healed” He told us “Just some sore muscles but they will heal too now that the healing ability has taken care of the major damage”
“Good” I said happily and felt a weight being lifted off my chest
“Where’s Scott, we have to find him!” Madelyn said softly and rubbed her throat
“Does she not remember?” Koda linked me
“Did you do a CT scan of her brain?” I asked the healer
“Yes sir, all clear”
“Very well, leave us” Koda told Robert as he sat down next to Madelyn and took her hand again
“If you need anything Luna, please call for the nurse and stay in the bed”
“But..” Madelyn blushed “I need to use the bathroom”
“You have a catheter in, Luna, you don’t have to worry about urination”
“Oh, thank you” She blushed lightly and I felt my heart flutter, I’d thought I’d never see that blush again
Bradley left the room and I pulled Madelyn into a hug “Don’t you ever scare us like this again!” I scolded her before pulling back and kissing her
Once I moved Koda repeated my actions before sitting back and looking at me in concern
“Sweetheart Scott’s dead”
“You killed him?”
“No” Koda shook his head “You did, don’t you remember”
Madelyn’s eyes widened and she shook her head
“What happened after we left the suite?” Koda asked and she filled us in on everything she remembered, it was awful listening to the events that had unfolded after our departure and torture hearing her crying through the explanation but left us puzzled
“So, you passed out” Koda frowned and looked at me “Then who killed Scott?”
“Maybe… maybe you killed him and just don’t remember” I suggested “Is Ava awake, maybe she knows what happened?”
“She’s asleep”
“What if it was the Keeper?” Koda said thoughtfuly “Maybe he saved her and left for some reason”
“No one came in or out before the guards showed up” I reminded him, we’d seen the video surveillance from outside the suites and Koda had declared that he was adding cameras in our lobby area when our mate was home and I agree’d ‘It had to have been Madelyn and she’s blocked it out”
“How did he die?”
Koda and I looked at each other and I knew we were both wondering if we should lie to her but finally I think we both realized independently that we shouldn’t because we both looked back at our mate
“He was burnt to death” I told her
Madelyn’s eyes widened “I see” She looked down at her hands and I noticed tears falling again, was she upset that her ex mate was dead or was she sad that she could be the one who’d killed him?
“Are you alright baby?”
“Yes, it just…” She hesitated “Even if I didn’t kill him, then I’m responsable for his and his mothers deaths, this wasn’t how I thought things would go after meeting you both, I wanted to be away from them but I never wanted them to die”
“Good riddance if you ask me” Koda said callously and even though I agree’d, I was alot more tactful not to say it out loud and I hit my id*ot brother who glared and rubbed him arm
“This isn’t your fault so don’t think about it” I told her
Madelyn rubbed her throat and looked thoughtful but then she froze and I was worried she was still upset over that waste of space Scott but then tears filled her eyes again
“Baby, what is it?” Koda asked “Do you remember his death?”
She shook her head “Can you ask the doctor to come back, I want to ask him something in private”
“Of course if you’d like but what do you want to know?” I asked her as I gently rubbed my hand up and down her arm in comfort “He may have already told us and we can answer your question”
Madelyn looked down and shook her head but Koda gripped her gently under her chin and pulled her face up “What’s wrong, what do you want to ask him?”
“Am I… did Scott”
“Sweetheart, what’s on your mind?” I asked when she stopped talking
“Am I still a virgin?”
“Of course you are” Koda said quickly before I could open my mouth and he hugged her “The doctor checked for us”
“Oh, thank the goddess” She wept “I was so scared, I thought…”
“Shh” I wrapped my arms around my two favorite people and pressed my face into Madelyn’s hair “Don’t cry sweetheart, we’re right here with you, you’re safe now”
We didn’t talk after that and just let her cry and it was f*cking torture, I hated myself for leaving her all alone, one of us should have stayed with her that night
Once she fell silent again, I felt her slump in our arms and I leant back
