My parents exchanged a look and I knew in that moment that they knew I was lying… cr*p… we hadn’t told them about Madelyn being a white Lycan.
“We are getting off track” One of the councilors, Kira, stood up “Your majesty, are we voting for war today or are we simply discussing that matter?”
We all looked at my father and, who stared at my mother, they remained silent for a few seconds while they spoke through the link.
“We are voting” My father announced “Troy is a threat and if these plans are to believed, then he has already set things in motion and now that his heir is dead, I’m sure he will escalate things. Everyone vote”
I looked around the room as the councilors declared themself, all voted for war except for 3 but I suspected they were on Troy’s payroll and made a note to have them investigated.
All the non-councillors voted as well and again, they all voted for war, except for one werewolf, Alpha, who left angrily after saying his pack was not picking sides and was staying out of the war but if anyone attacked his pack, he’d defend himself.
His departure caused an uproar. The witches wanted us to take out his pack first and said that the Alpha was clearly on Troys side, but my father calmed them down and told them to go speak to their leaders and that we’d discuss the war in greater detail when their leaders arrived.
“Everyone out” My father ordered once the non-councillors left, before pointing to me “You stay”
I suppressed a sigh, I was so agitated, Knox and I wanted to go back to Madelyn, I was worried she was awake, but I’m sure Koda would have linked me if that was the case.
Everyone was chatting about today’s meeting as they exited the throne room, but I let their conversations become background noise.
“Is she white?” My father asked the second. We were alone, and of course I knew he was talking about my mate
“Yes” I admitted, there was no point in hiding it.
“How long have you known?” My mother asked angrily.
I shrugged “Does it matter”
“YES!” My father shouted.
“Fine” I commented “The next time I find out my mate’s a white Lycan, I’ll let you know straight away”
“I AM REALLY LOOSING MY PATIENCE JAXSON, DO NOT PUSH ME!”
“We were going to tell you both” I told them dismissively “Just calm down, we’ve had other matters to worry about, in case you haven’t realized, MY F*CKING MATE NEARLY DIED!”
“Both of you calm down!” My mother interjected and touched my father’s arm “Darling, you should have told us, we can’t help protect Madelyn if you keep things from us”
“Fine” I exhaled and ran my fingers through my hair “Going forward we will have full disclosure, but that goes both ways, we all need to sit down, and you need to tell Madelyn everything”
“Well we have no choice now that we’re going to war” My father commented “When she is well enough, I will speak to her about her mother”
“Thank you, may I go now please?”
“Yes darling, off you go and give her a hug and a kiss from us”
“Sure”
KODA’S POV
I held Maddie in my arms as my brother left, and I let myself breathe and take it in that she was alive, but I found myself drifting off, I didn’t know how long I was out of it but Jax’s return woke me up, and he looked troubled.
‘What’s going on?’
He reached out his hand and I touched it to connect, and our memories switched ‘Cr*p’ I nodded ‘So we’re going to war, we’ll have to pick up our training”
“I want Madelyn to start fight training in a few days”
“I’ll ask Carl to help train her”
“No chance in hell” He argued and sat down “Her trainersl is going to be a woman. Maybe Evet’s trainer. What’s her name, Abigael?’
“Annabelle” I corrected him and rolled my eyes, he was frigging hopeless.
“Right, yeah, Annabelle, well we’ll ask her” He commented and touched Madelyn’s face “She feels warm, has Bradley come back in?”
“No idea, I was asleep”
Jax glared at me “You were meant to be taking care of her!”
“I was” I defended myself “She was asleep, she was safe, what the hell else did you want me to do?”
“I wanted”
Before my brother could finish his rant, Maddie started tossing around as she screamed and nearly fell off the bed, but I quickly grabbed her as Jaxson held out his hands, and together we stopped her from falling off the bed as she woke up in fear and looked around.
“Maddie it’s okay” I said quickly
“You’re safe” Jax told her as he cupped her face in his hands “It was just a dream”
“I’m sorry” Maddie said as tears washed down her face, causing not just her but myself and Jax pain.
I’d never expected anything like this after finding my mate. Her joy was my joy, her pain was my pain. In fact, her pain seemed to hurt me more than my own.
I’d never felt anything like this with Blake, she’d often cry over little annoyances, but it never really fazed me beyond the normal sympathetic response.
But this.. Maddies pain, it was pure torture, every tear, every cry, it was more than I could bare.
“Don’t be sorry” Jax hushed her as he pressed his forehead against hers “It’s alright sweetheart, everything’s going to be alright”
Maddie pulled back and looked up at him with puffy red eyes and flushed cheeks, and he wiped her face, but she moved his hand away and kissed him.
Jaxson’s eyes widened. He hadn’t expected her sudden onslaught, but after a second to catch up, he closed his eyes and kissed her back, but when her hand ran down his chest to the zipper of his jeans, he quickly gripped her wrists and stopped her.
“Sweetheart don’t, not right now”
“I’m sorry” She said again as more tears fell “I don’t know why I did that”
“What’s going on in your head baby?” I asked as I brushed her hair back.
“I just.. I’m sorry, I don’t know what I was thinking” She couldn’t seem to get her thoughts out “I just wanted to feel something other than what I’m feeling, I was just being stupid. I’m sorry”
“Stop apologizing” I ordered “And you’re not stupid, you’ve been through something f*cking monstrous, it’s understandable that you’d want to think about something else for a while”
“Come here” Jax scooped her up and lifted her from the bed before he laid down beside me and positioned Maddie between, but on top of us, and we hugged her tightly under the covers of the bed “When you’re well enough, I promise we’ll pick up where we left off”
“I second that motion” I joked.
“I want to go home” She said softly, and I felt a twinge of joy that she thought of our suite as home.
