Kara paused by the open door of the car, that the driver had just opened and glared at me “Don’t talk nonsense, do you think I’d wait all these years for a daughter, just to have some freak take her, get in the car”
I smiled and quickly climbed in.
JAXSON’S POV
“Come on” Koda hit my arm, and we walked into the tower “There’s no saving her now, she’s mothers”
After getting chewed out by our father for having Ezra locked up, which I refused to apologize for, and our dad slowly calmed down and gave up in a huff.
“So, why was the meeting canceled?” Koda asked as he sat down beside Ryker who looked stiff and tired
“We need to talk about Troys kid, Skyler’
“What about her?” I asked as I sat in one of the other empty seats and placed my foot over my knee comfortably “Kill her and be done with that entire pathetic line, oh I’m sorry, Ryker, there’s another member of that family, currently growing in your daughter, isn’t it”
Ryker looked at me angrily but I just smiled, he’s lucky I don’t kill his b*tch daughter myself
“I’m not killing her” Our father shook his head and my eyes snapped back to him “She is going to be released”
“You can’t be serious!” I growled and looked at Koda, who had a thoughtful look on his face
“The girl hasn’t technically done anything” Ryker commented.
“Right, figures you’d want to keep your kids aunt around” I snarled and tension filled the room “And I don’t think, years of torturing our mate, count as not doing anything”
“Jax enough” Koda said calmly before looking at our father “You think you can use her, don’t you?”
“You were always the smart one” Dad said proudly and I rolled my eyes at him
“What are you talking about?”
“She might go straight to her father” Koda looked at me eagerly “And we could follow her”
“I was already sending one of you out to track down some leads” Dad sat back and looked us over “Instead of running around blindly after each one, the girl can just take us straight to them”
“It’s worth a try” I said reluctantly “When are you going to let her out?”
“In a few days” Our father answered “I need to get a tracker spell in place on her and we can’t do it without her blood”
“Unfortunately, the mutt is refusing to give it up and the blood spell can’t work if the blood is not given willingly” Ryker exhaled “But we’ve come up with a plan, we’re going to get Blake to ask for it, claiming the baby needs it via a transfusion”
“Why would Skyler care about some b*stard child?” I asked
“Because it’s her family” Ryker answered “And my grandchild, isn’t a b*stard. The baby was conceived through the bond”
“My apologizes” I rolled my eyes “Didn’t mean to insult your half-breed grandbaby, where is Blake registered? I’ll send a gift”
“Jax, come on” Koda’s voice was pleading, but I just glared at him
“You do remember that the b*tch tried to baby trap you, don’t you?” I snapped ‘Or that she hurt our mate!”
“Don’t imply that I care less about Maddie than you do”
“BOYS ENOUGH!” Our father slammed his hands down on the table and stood up “My goddess, I’m so grateful, I didn’t have to share a mate with Fenrir, you two are bloody tiresome!”
We both glared at our father, fuming, he was the tiring one, I’d been tired of him for decades and I found myself once more grateful that the throne would be mine and Koda’s soon.
“This is happening” He went on “Skyler will be released and one of you will track the mutt, Ryker, get your daughter on board”
“She already is” He told us “But.. she has a condition”
‘Who is she to have conditions of me?” My dad snarled and for once I agreed with him “After what she’s pulled since Madelyn met my boys, she’d lucky I don’t have her canines removed”
“What does she want?” Koda asked
“It doesn’t matter!”
“She wants to be released and placed under house arrest instead of the prison”
“Is that all? My father said angrily, his breathing was hard, but I could tell he was thinking it over
“It’s not happening” I stood up angrily “You let that b*tch out, and I will kill her on the spot”
“Settle down Jax” Koda pleaded.
“Perhaps we could ask Madelyn?” Ryker suggested to my dad “If she allows it, would you consider it, she was the one who was harmed after all”
“You will not go to her with this” Koda snapped “She will agree because she’ll feel obligated too, we won’t let you manipulate her!”
My father sat back and thought it over for a moment “Ask your mate” He ordered and both Koda and I growled “Press upon her, that this could get us to Fenrir and Troy, it may be one of the best chances we have and Blake won’t be free, she will be under house arrest and I’ll have a guard detail posted around her at all times”
“This is bullsh*t!” I snapped “If you’d just killed Fenrir when you had the chance, none of this would be happening. Why does our mate have to suffer for your inability to do your JOB!”
“Jax, stop” Koda quickly got up and stood in front of me and placed his hands on my chest “Back off, go to our office and cool down”
“Don’t baby me!” I shoved him but I bowed and left the room.
Ten minutes later, Koda joined me in our office with sour expression “Why do you make things so much harder!?” He snapped and threw his jacket on his chair “We could have negotiated with him but thanks to your little outburst, he’s not backing down, and we have to convince Maddie to go alone with this dam plan!”
“I’m not talking her into anything” I told him “If she says no, then, that’s it”
“Let’s worry about this later” He sighed and sat down in a huff “We both need to cool down”
“I’m going to the greenhouse to see if the drug’s been identified”
“Interesting that you offer to do that while we have a stack of forms that need filling out” Koda glared at me
“I don’t know what you’re talking about?” I just smiled and walked away.
I went down to the large greenhouse where our herbalists worked and lived in the nearby housing and walked through the greenhouse, and I smiled to myself as I remembered my date here with Madelyn
I walked through the garden areas to the offices and saw Robert working at his desk, grinding some herbs.
“Robert, how are you feeling?”
“Great, great” He smiled “How’s the Luna feeling?”
“Better, thanks, where’s Sierra?”
