Chapter 21 – The War God Alphas Arranged Bride

I couldn’t stop my cheeks from flushing under the weight of their gazes. Regardless of my title, I simply wasn’t used to this kind of attention – even if it was something minor as mere acknowledgement.

Alexander had guided us over to a slightly raised platform where he was able to properly address the crowd. As soon as he cleared his throat, the whole area grew silent.

Several dozens of chills raced down my spine at the sight of everyone’s obedience and willingness to listen to Alexander even in his current state. It was clear to see that all those rumors about how he gained so much allegiance and respect from others were, in fact, true.

“Everyone, before I read through the evaluation, there’s something rather important that must be announced,” he said clearly.

The silence was almost deafening. Many of the soldiers kept glancing in my direction. My heart thundered frantically in my chest.

“I know this may come as a bit of a shock…To be honest, I was genuinely surprised by the development myself at the time. Without any further delay, I would like to introduce you all to Evelyn. My Luna.”

There was no chance of ignoring the countless gasps and hushed whispers that broke out among the crowd.

I offered a smile and lowered my head in deep respect.

“You may say something if you wish,” Alexander whispered to me.

“As Alexander previously mentioned, I know this is all a bit shocking. Sudden, to say the least. In the time that I have known Alpha Alexander, he’s proven himself to be

meticulous. And at times, exceedingly intimidating.”

A few light-hearted chuckles were thrown around amongst the crowd.

“But I believe that the reason for this is because he wanted to ensure that he had picked a suitable Luna,” I stated.

I knew there was more to Alexander’s reasoning and trials when it came to me; however, that was a conversation best suited for another time.

“I originally come from a considerably small pack. But regardless of the numbers, I always made it a point to ensure that their well-being and security came first. Rumors were all I had when it came to knowing anything about this pack. All I can say is that by the sheer magnitude of it and the clear, undoubtable skill that you all possess – I’m nothing short of impressed. It would be a great honor to serve and look after you all.”

The crowd in front of us erupted in the same thunderous applause as when Alexander first entered. I couldn’t stop the smile that took over my face along with the several hundreds

of chills that raced over my body.

“Well done,” Alexander said with a smug smile.

From that point onward, he’d gone through the evaluation while giving honorable mentions when necessary. After going over the new training schedules, Alexander closed out the meeting with a mere nod of his head.

Throughout it all, not a single person’s attention strayed or stepped out of line. It really made me feel true admiration for the Alpha beside me.

While heading back to the main camp, we were joined by Oliver who gave an appraising smile to us both.

“I think they took the news of your new Luna rather well, sir.”

“Indeed they did,” he hummed. Alexander’s grin was relaxed as he spoke. He turned his head to glance up at me. “Evelyn, how do you feel about helping me plan out a ceremony to honor our mothers? Perhaps a private memorial at the graveyard as a way to pay tribute to our mothers?”

An astonished expression took over my face. “R-Really? Yes. Yes, I would love to help you plan such a ceremony.”

My heart swelled in my chest; I couldn’t help but smile with excitement.

“Good. How about we set the date for the end of next week?” he suggested.

So soon? Suddenly, part of my excitement was quickly replaced with anxiety. I’d never planned such an important occasion. Considering its severity, I needed to ensure that I was going to make sure everything was perfect.

“Sir, remember, the Luna gathering happens to be next week as well,” Oliver addressed.

Oh God. To think my nerves couldn’t get any more disheveled…

[Evelyn’s POV]

“It’s mandatory that I attend this event, correct?” I asked stiffly.

I hadn’t meant to sound so hesitant or awkward; however, the words seemed to have fallen out of my mouth before I could get a chance to stop them.

Oliver nodded his head. “Yes, madam,” he responded curtly. “Usually, it’s the Alpha’s daughters who have a chance to decline the invitation. But all Lunas are required to be in attendance. Attending gatherings such as these is considered a vital part of any Luna’s responsibilities.”

My stomach lurched in response. Wonderful.

I tried to get past the lump in my throat while nodding my head. I hid my anxiety over the upcoming Luna gathering behind a false smile.

While Oliver and Alexander went on about

necessary preparations pertaining to the event that he wanted to plan, I did my best to keep my nerves under control.

I was by no means a fan of social gatherings. It wasn’t as though I thought I was going to make a fool of myself, but it always ended up feeling like a complete outsider.

It never mattered how I dressed, or how I carried myself…My reputation for being a ‘wild child’ was just something that I could never escape.

Just the mere thought of having to parade myself around sent a cold shiver down my spine. I honestly wondered if there was a way I could talk my way out of having to go.

Come on, Evelyn. Alexander just started to open up to you. His trust and your connection with him are on the line.

Unfortunately, my inner voice had a point. What kind of a message would it send to the pack if word got out that I didn’t attend the Luna gathering?

I just needed to take several deep breaths and find a way to cope. In the midst of my panic

taking root, Alexander must have sensed my uneasiness. Unspokenly, he placed a hand on my lower back.

I tried to focus on the warmth from his hand and ignore the growing tension in my chest.

Right as we reached his tent, Alexander stopped. Both Oliver and I shared a quick, questionable look at each other before turning to glance back at Alexander.

“Sir?”

“Oliver, change of plans. We’re heading back to the house. I want to make sure that Nina is brought up to date on the current schedule. Whatever is left on Evelyn’s schedule – cancel it. She’s had a long day and needs to rest.”

Before I could get a chance to argue, Oliver was already nodding his head and the three of us were making our way back to the house. Aside from wanting to meet with Wendy, I wasn’t entirely sure what was left of my day.

But Alexander was right to assume one thing…I was exhausted. My emotions have been all over the place since I headed out to the camps. I honestly felt like I could use a

good rest.

Just as we made it back to the house, we all entered the main hall and were promptly greeted by the staff. I turned to head in the direction of the bedroom but was stopped by the unexpected feel of Alexander’s hand on my arm.

It was the second time he’d reached out to me…

What did it mean?

I lowered my gaze to find Alexander staring back at me with a raised brow.
