I already knew this the day her application came in and I hope she can tell me how she tricked Alpha Hank in signing the document.
Josiah tells me that Elder Chelsea is in a private meeting with Meadow, “When she asked Chelsea, I could tell that she has been hurt. I just couldn’t tell if it was physical or mental and we decided it was best to grant her request.”
A blood curdling scream stops him from continuing and we walk into Elder Chelsea’s office. We are faced with a Lycan, with what looks like fur on fire.
Her Lycan howls in pain and in mere seconds other Shifters join her howls. It only lasts a minute or so, than she collapses to the floor in her Human form. Chelsea grabs one of my spare shirts, pulls it over her head and once it is in place Josiah picks her up.
We wait outside her room in the infirmary, while Doc is examining her. I already know what happened, but my main question can only be answered by Meadow.
“How did she shift” Josiah mumbles, but I doubt I have to explain it to him.
“I think the better question would be; who is her fated Mate?” Chelsea responds.
“I knew she had her Lycan, she used her claws on those Rogues. I just didn’t think it was my place to reveal that secret, I doubt there is anyone that knew she had her Lycan.” I say and I know that Josiah and Chelsea understand my reasoning.
“Elder Morton, she will wake up soon. Everything is fine, just make sure that she shifts every day. I would hate to see this forced shift become a problem for her. If you want to talk to her that is fine, but I will be there to monitor her.” Doc says and I know there is nothing I can say to stop him from being there.
It takes half an hour for her to wake up and I decide to bite the bullet, “Who is your fated Mate?” Chelsea asks and each of us take a seat to listen to the rest of her story.
“Rebel showed up over nine weeks ago. I was surprised to hear her and I made the decision to keep it a secret. We used all our private time to talk and during my schooldays she would go through my memories, to say she was pissed is putting it mildly.
Six weeks ago we were gathered in front of the Pack-house, our future Gamma was turning eighteen and we were all to witness his shift. It would also be possible for him to find his fated Mate and his girlfriend, Stella, was telling everyone that he would finally be able to sense that she was his fated Mate.
There was only one problem that night, Stella wasn’t his fated Mate but he did announce her as his Mate and yes, he didn’t use the word fated. I was his fated Mate and he chose to ignore what the Goddess had decided.” She closes her eyes for a moment.
“Florence knew immediately that something was wrong and Rebel confided in my friends, I was in no shape to answer any questions. Hayden made sure that Alpha Hank signed my application the following day, he wanted me to have a back-up plan if Rufus would keep lying.
I had to wait six weeks for Stella to turn eighteen and I don’t have to tell you what happened that night. Not with Stella and not with Alpha Hank, I left in the early hours that morning and I have no intention of going back.” She says, finally allowing the tears to escape she tried to stop.
Myka’s p.o.v.
I had seen the strange looks Beta Rhys got when he said that all Pack-members were present and I know where to start looking for answers.
Where should I start looking for answers? Or maybe I should ask with which family should I start.
Elder Morton had looked at Beta Rhys, so that is where I will start my investigation. I open the door to the Pack’s Archive, “Holy Fuck, What the hell happened here?” I call out, but I know that there is no one here to answer me.
I pull open the filing cabinets and after half an hour I am positive that the last person to keep this up to date was Alpha Hank’s Father. My eyes get drawn to a row of tables, pushed against the wall to the right of the door and it is as if I am back in Alpha Hank’s office.
“Alpha office, now.” I hear Alpha Lincoln growl through the mind-link and I walk out of the Archive to head back to the Alpha office. The others walk into the hallway as I round the corner and I close the door behind.
“Elder Morton gave me a piece of advice, he told me to go through every piece of paper we could find. I think there was more to Alpha Hank than anyone could have imagined and I will not leave a stone unturned to find the truth.” Alpha Lincoln says and I slowly raise my hand.
“What, Myka.” He growls.
“I doubt any of you saw it, but when Elder Morton asked Beta Rhys if all Pack-members were present I saw something. Elder Morton and a few Pack-members gave him a strange look, almost as if they wanted to challenge his statement.
I went to the Archive and if you thought this office was bad…” I let my sentence trail off, they know what I mean.
“The last one to file a report properly was Alpha Hank’s Father. If my instincts are correct, Alpha Hank placed every piece of paper on a table and as you can imagine those piles became taller and unstable. The result, a floor filled with papers that don’t make sense in most cases until you have filed them correctly.” I say and if Alpha Lincon was a kettle, he would be whistling right now.
“Why would you check the Archive?” Mom asks and I know others want to know that answer too.
“If I read Elder Morton correctly and with that I mean the look he gave Beta Rhys and his advice to Alpha Lincoln, I think we might have at least one Pack-member that is unaccounted for.” I answer her. “If we want that question answered without spooking anyone, than I am going to need some help.”
After dividing the tasks at hand, Alpha Lincoln orders all of us to get some sleep. I am not sure about the others, but I was asleep the moment my head hit the pillow and I slept until Makay decided to wake me up.
“Fuck, you weren’t kidding.” I hear Makay mumble next to me and I slowly walk towards the papers on the floor, scared it will be disturbed even more.
“Let’s see if the papers are dated, it might make it easier to find something that belongs together.” Dad says and we all sit down to start going through the papers. It only takes a few minutes before I grab a stack of papers and move to the other side of the room.
By the time Luna Leona calls us for lunch, I still haven’t found two papers that are connected together and by the looks of it none of the others found anything either.
