Life’s Spiced Up with Some Werewolf Reads

Chapter 14 – My Secret Lycan Life

Fortune makes it very clear she isn’t very pleased with that action. I guide Maleah back to the elevator. Once we are inside she sighs in relief and thanks me for coming with her.

“I’m not sure what I would have done if you hadn’t been standing next to me. I might have lost control to Fortune and she would have ripped Alpha Bradley a new asshole,” she says and I chuckle.

As we walk from the elevator to her room Maleah asks me what I would like for lunch. “I will order room service when we get back to my room and during lunch you can explain to me what the problem is between Alpha Max and Alpha Bradley,” she says.

I look at her with surprise on my face. “You think I didn’t realize that the problem lies between your Father and Alpha Bradley? That it isn’t completely a problem you and your Brothers have with him? I would like to hear that story.”

My observation about Maleah had been correct. She is a smart woman and now I am really starting to wonder what that file of Alpha Bradley is doing in her room. My Lycan pipes up and suggests that she might be the Angel of Death but I just ask him if he has lost his mind.

“She was never properly trained and in order for her to be the Angel of Death she should have gone through extensive training, something she never received,” I point out to my Lycan.

After Maleah has put our order through to room service I ask her to join me on the balcony. “Not many of the youngsters in our Pack know the complete story about their Alpha and their Luna. Dad met Mom at one of the Spring Balls that was held in Gravta and even though her Lycan felt the same connection as Dad’s Lycan she denied it.”

“As you might know the Spring Ball lasts an entire weekend and that is enough time for the Mate-bond to grow, to grow enough to make it nearly impossible to fight it. It is what happened between Mom and Dad. It wasn’t until Dad brought Mom home that he found out from which Pack she was and why she was so reluctant to trust him. Alpha Bradley wasn’t the Alpha at the time and his behavior was similar to that of his Son nowadays.”

“With a major difference in the fact that his Son seems to understand the answer no from time to time. Alpha Bradley never accepted no as an answer and when Dad found out that he had raped Mom he swore to get even with Alpha Bradley. Alpha Bradley even tried to use an Alpha order on Mom to get her to go home, but unfortunately for him they had been marked and mated by the time he came to Blood Crescent Pack.”

“If I ever get the chance to send an Assassin after Alpha Bradley I will grab it with both hands. I might even go as far as accompanying the Assassin on his assignment and maybe I will be the one that will end his pathetic life,” I tell Maleah.

Just as I am about to ask her about the file in her room there is a knock on the door. She gets saved by room service so to speak. The servant places the dishes on the table inside and I think that this is Maleah’s way to make sure that no one can hear what she’s about to tell me, something I think not many people are aware of.

During lunch we talk about the upcoming Spring Ball and Maleah tells me that she won’t be attending. “I have cleared my schedule to be able to stay at home the two weeks leading up to the Spring Ball, which means I have a lot of catching up to do.”

“I still keep checking my boutiques and with the amount I have nowadays it takes a while to visit them all. So the ones I won’t be visiting get postponed to a later date. Meaning I have a full schedule when the Spring Ball starts – a perfect excuse not to attend,” she says with a smile on her face.

I ask her if I can use that excuse as well. “Well, you could always put down your position as Alpha and become my assistant,” Maleah replies and both of us are laughing our asses off.

“I will discuss it with my Brothers when I get home. Maybe they will be glad to get rid of me,” I say teasingly, making both of us crack up again.

Maleah’s p.o.v.

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting after he took a look at the file, but I hadn’t expected the calm way he responded to my words. Fortune told me that if his story about Alpha Bradley was any good we should tell him the truth, otherwise we would come up with a good reason as to why we had that file.

I mean, I could make it out as if I wanted more information about the male my Mother took as a Mate, especially with their persistence on me moving to his Pack.

Mother must have been waiting for me as she opened the door before I could knock, and I could see that Alpha Bradley was looking at Alpha Dax over my shoulder. He really didn’t like the fact I had brought my Alpha along for this lunch. I could sense there was another Wolf in one of the bedrooms of the suite, and I had an inkling feeling that his Son was hiding in there. This didn’t predict much good.

“There are two more Wolves on the balcony. I think it is safe to say they are up to no good, and I bet they are hoping it was your Father’s aura that seeped out,” Fortune said as I kept my eyes on my Mother. I didn’t want Alpha Bradley to know I could feel the struggle he had with his Wolf, and I smiled when I felt Alpha Dax leaning closer to me.

I wanted to stick out my tongue at Alpha Bradley when Alpha Dax told him he didn’t trust him, but I could refrain myself from giving in to that urge. When Mother tried to grab my arm, Fortune released a low, menacing roar.

I hoped Mother would stop bugging me after today, but I wouldn’t be holding my breath for it. Mother had never been one to take a hint, and I doubted she would start today. She just saw and heard what she wanted.

As we were making our way back from Alpha Bradley’s suite, I was trying to think of the best way to explain the file on Alpha Bradley without telling the truth if need be. But after hearing the story of Luna Elyse, I knew I would finally tell someone the truth. With that decision, I knew I would have to tell our former and current leadership the truth as well. I thought I might have more trouble telling Dad about my life – a life I think he never wanted for me.

I tried to find the best way to explain to Alpha Dax why I had a file on Alpha Bradley. I was glad he gave me the time to think as we ate our lunch, and I decided to let Alpha Dax ask me about the file. I cleared the dishes from the table and put the tray on the table outside my room. As I walked back to the table, I picked up the file on Alpha Bradley and his Son.

“Maleah, can you explain why you have that file in your possession?” Alpha Dax asked as I sat down in my seat.

“I will explain why I have this file, but it will leave you with even more questions. I am willing to answer those questions, but I have a feeling you will want a few other people present when you ask me those questions,” I told him as I opened the file in front of me. I looked up at him to see a curious look in his eyes.

“I am not sure if you are aware of this, but Alpha Bradley and his Son have been charged with multiple crimes over the years, and for some reason none of the charges ever stuck. I truly believe that at least one Council Elder is covering up for them; I just don’t know how,” I explained.

“Three of their victims have had enough and are no longer willing to leave it in the hands of the Council of Elders. They have decided to make sure they never can hurt anyone else again. I have known for a long time that Alpha Bradley and his Son are bad news, but I never saw apicture of him. When Mack mentioned his name, Fortune wanted to rip him to shreds.”

“You know me as the Angel of Death,” I said, and I was in stitches when I saw the dumbfounded look on his face. He definitely didn’t see that one coming.

“If someone keeps escaping justice and rumors start to spread that his or her victims are willing to pay for their demise, a middle man contacts them. The rules are simple: you pay, and I will take care of them when it suits me. I always pick a public place to make sure their death leaks out, and I usually leave a clear message behind on why their lives were ended,” I told him, and I could tell a million questions were running through his mind.

“You are right, Maleah. This leaves me with more questions, and I want answers to them. But you were also right when you said I would want others present. I am not sure what to say right now. I had thought of a few explanations you could have given me, but this wasn’t one of them. I think you could have even chosen to lie to me, and yet you chose to tell me the truth,” Alpha Dax said.

“I thought about lying to you. I thought about telling you I wanted to know more about the male my Mother took as a Mate, and I believe I could have sold it to you as the truth. But after what you told me about your Mother and what Alpha Bradley did to her, I knew you deserved to know the truth. I needed to tell you the truth.”
