Tomorrow, I will meet with Stan, and if everything goes as planned, I will be able to leave Albarr a day ahead of schedule. I need to get some distance between myself and my Mother.
“They are in place,” Pauline says as I grab my bag. “Alpha Bradley has tried to get a key to your room, but he failed, as you can understand. One warning, though – someone rented the room next to yours an hour after Alpha Bradley tried to get the key.”
“If it is his Son, I am going to rip him a new asshole,” Fortune growls, and I ask her why she wants to do that if our endgame is to kill him.
“Girl, now you’re talking,” Fortune yells in my head, and I hand Pauline a piece of paper as I walk out the door. I know she will take care of everything. I get in my car and turn the volume of my favorite song up a bit, singing along as I drive back to the hotel.
Instead of walking to the reception, I walk to the restaurant. I need to make a few things happen to pull off my little plan – and the moment I step into the restaurant, I know it will work out just fine.
“Miss D’Angelo, please follow me,” the hostess says as she grabs a menu and guides me to a table by the window. She always makes sure this table is free when I stay at the hotel.
I order a bottle of water before I open the menu and take a look at what I want to eat tonight. It doesn’t take long before a shadow falls over the table. I look up to see my Mother and Alpha Bradley standing next to my table, and I sigh deeply before I lower the menu.
“What can I do for the two of you?” I ask, and Alpha Bradley growls at me. I know he finds it disrespectful that I didn’t use his precious title.
“He can kiss my ass,” Fortune grumbles in my head.
“Maleah, I want you to show your StepFather some respect, and that means using his title,” my Mother says, and Alpha Bradley gets a smug look on his face.
A waitress appears behind my Mother, and I nod my head at her to indicate I am ready to order.
“What can I get you this evening, Miss D’Angelo?” she asks as she steps next to my Mother, and I order a surf and turf – because here, they serve it with lobster – along with their famous homemade potato salad and seasoned potatoes on the side. She quickly glances at my Mother as she walks away.
“Maleah, you are being disrespectful,” my Mother says, and I know everyone in the restaurant has heard her. “I raised you better than this,” she continues, and I hear a few gasps when I ask her when she raised me.
“Was that whenever you left the Pack? Or when you ordered an Omega to deliver three meals a day? Or when you were bad-mouthing my Father to me?” I ask her calmly.
Alpha Bradley releases a mighty roar as he leans forward. “I will make sure to teach you some manners when you move to my Pack,” he says.
“Alpha Bradley, I will never willingly move to your Pack.
You and my Mother know this very well – or the two of you wouldn’t have tried to get my transfer papers signed behind my back. Too bad I came home early and prevented my Alphas from signing those papers. Now, I would appreciate it if the two of you would leave me alone,” I say.
Maleah’s p.o.v.
I know that every Wolf and Lycan in the restaurant has heard what I said, and even though the majority of them didn’t grow up in a Pack, they know that what my Mother tried to do is unacceptable.
They also know that Alpha Bradley, as an Alpha himself, should have known that she needed my permission to hand those papers to my Alphas. Knowing Wolves and Lycans the way I do, this little piece of information will be public knowledge within the hour.
Let’s see how Alpha Bradley will like it when another Alpha or one of his business partners confronts him with this indiscretion, because his reputation is the most important thing to him. And just like every other Alpha, he won’t like it when someone questions him about today’s events.
A male waiter arrives at the table with my order, and reluctantly, Alpha Bradley steps aside. “Alpha, my colleague is at your table with your order,” the waiter says as he places my surf and turf in front of me.
I’m glad I always sit at a table for two, or they might have decided to join me – and that is definitely the last thing I want. Just the thought alone has Fortune gagging in the back of my head, and we both would like to keep our appetite because we always enjoy our meals when we’re in a hotel from this chain. Luckily for us, they have a hotel in every town and city where I have a boutique, which makes it easy to plan where and what we eat.
It takes a moment before my Mother realizes I will ignore them, and she follows her Mate back to their own table. Through my eyelashes, I see Alpha Bradley and my Mother getting strange looks as they walk away, and I smile to myself as I hear a few comments from the people around me. It sounds like some of them are even on the phone, telling the other person what happened.
The hotel manager walks into the restaurant, and most conversations go quiet again, each person hoping to hear what the manager has to say to whomever he’s here to see.
“Miss D’Angelo,” the manager greets me as he reaches my table. “I was informed about some commotion near your table, and I want to apologize for the disturbance,” he says.
I look up at him and ask if he was responsible for the disturbance – which we all know he wasn’t. When he shakes his head, I say, “Then you don’t have a reason to apologize, but I appreciate the effort. The issue resolved itself, and I doubt it will occur again.” The manager tells me that he has arranged another hotel for me to stay in, and I know which hotel he’s talking about – it’s only a block from the shopping center where my new boutique is located.
Knowing there’s nothing in my room I don’t want anyone to see, I give him permission to have two Servants pack up my belongings.
“Once you’re done with dinner, you can go to the reception, and they will make sure you get your luggage. They will also have your bill ready – tonight’s dinner is on the house,” the manager says before walking away. I have to stifle a smile at the angry look on my Mother’s face, not that Alpha Bradley looks any happier.
As I finish my surf and turf, I send Pauline a message: I need that information. I know I will have it before I finish dinner, and before this night is over, I will have completed half of my assignment.
After a waitress clears my table, it only takes a few minutes before another waitress places a latte macchiato in front of me. I look out the window as I enjoy my latte, with a very satisfied Lycan resting in the back of my mind.
My phone dings to let me know I have a new message, and I smile when I see it’s from Mack: Anyone giving you trouble? the message reads. I know who he’s talking about, and I send him a message back to let him know I’ll be moving to another hotel, along with the explanation why.
