Call me when you get there, he replies, and I know he will try to get some answers that Dax refused to give him – not that I can blame him.
I would try to get answers if I were in his shoes, and I would probably succeed too. But knowing myself, Mack won’t get any answers from me – though I won’t stop him from trying.
I’d like to hear the kind of questions he’s going to ask me, just as a way to prepare myself for the questions I’ll get at the meeting with my Alphas and the rest of their leadership – and of course, our former leadership. Damn, I almost forgot to mention my Father.
The most questions will come from him and Colter. Neither of them ever suspected I was an Assassin, and knowing now that I have my Lycan, they might already suspect that I’m not just a designer.
My phone dings again as I walk to the reception, and I smile when I see that Pauline has sent me everything my team has found so far. I’ll read it the moment I arrive at the other hotel.
“Miss D’Angelo, your car is out front, and your luggage is in the trunk,” the receptionist tells me as she hands me my bill. I sign at the bottom line and tell her to send it to the usual address.
I hear someone cursing and swearing behind me, and when I look over my shoulder, I see my Mother and Alpha Bradley in the company of his Son. Okay, now I’m really confused. He doesn’t look like Alpha Bradley, and I wonder why anyone would believe a female went with him willingly.
He’s probably about six feet tall compared to my 5’8″, so not really the kind of guy I would go for – and that’s without mentioning the fact that he probably weighs over 200 pounds. None of those 200 pounds are muscle, and he’s wearing sweatpants and a shirt that’s about two sizes too small – not that that would be enough to make a female run in the opposite direction. No, it’s the ice-cold look in his eyes that would accomplish that.
I make it to my new accommodations without a problem, and the moment the door closes behind me, I call Mack. He picks up after it rings twice.
“How’s the new place?” he asks the moment he answers, and I tell him the room is fine – that it’s even closer to the shopping center.
“Why didn’t you stay there in the first place?” he asks, and I know he’s been wondering the same thing.
“Why would I pay almost triple the amount for exactly the same room just because it’s closer to the shopping center of Albarr?” I ask him in return.
“Why did Dax schedule a meeting?” he asks next, and I tell him it has to do with the cancelled lunch with my Mother.
“Alpha Dax wants you all to know what happened, and maybe your Father or mine can explain the way Alpha Bradley reacted. I know there might have been a personal reason, and I would like to know for sure – especially if I get an invitation to a Luna Ceremony in the future,” I tell him, and that isn’t a complete lie.
“I mean, I know what he did to Luna Elyse years ago, and I would like to know if that could be the reason he was so hostile toward Alpha Dax. Or was it because he planned on drugging me during lunch, as you suspected he would try one day?” I say. For the next few minutes, Mack asks me more questions about what happened and what was said, but I keep my answers vague.
After fifteen minutes of getting vague answers, he finally gets the message and tells me I’d better answer all of his questions at the meeting.
“Or I’m going to find out if your aura is as strong as Commander seems to think,” he says just before wishing me goodnight.
Unknown’s p.o.v.
My entire life I saw how the males around me treated females and until my early teens I believed that that was the way you were supposed to treat a female, that was until the day I was taught in school about the Mate-bond.
I was told that a male that had a Mate-bond would become possessive and protective of his Mate, that he would do anything to keep his Mate safe and that included giving his own life for her.
I was told that a male would go against his Alpha if it meant that he could keep his Mate safe, that a male would hate to be away from his Mate for longer than a few hours and that he would do anything to be with his Mate at all times.
I was told that it only applied to those with a fated Mate-bond, a bond their Wolf or Lycan agreed with and the female’s Wolf or Lycan agreed with.
I started to pay close attention to the males around me to see if I could tell the difference between a fated Mate-bond and a chosen Mate-bond and I quickly learned that most couples around me had a chosen Mate-bond.
I also learned quickly that the males around me weren’t faithful to their Mate and that most of them were cruel to females, whether they were their Mate or not. I grew up with a male like that in the house, the difference between him and every other male was the fact that he had no Mate.
Every female feared being called into his office and I was sixteen when I found out why they feared him so much. I needed to write an essay on the Mate-bond and I could choose from which point of view I wanted to write it, so I decided to ask my Father his opinion about the Mate-bond.
He told me he saw how it changed his Father, how his Father became more preoccupied with his Mate than with his Pack and he didn’t see it coming when my Father challenged him for the Alpha title.
Instead of accepting his Father’s submission my Father killed him and vowed to never accept the Mate-bond his Wolf agreed upon, only to be told by his Wolf that he would never let himself get weakened by a female.
My Mother was the youngest Daughter of his Head Warrior and a very pretty young female, the day she turned eighteen, he called her into his office and after some chitchat about her becoming of age, he raped her.
He gave her an Alpha order to tell everyone she felt a connection to my Father and that same day he moved her to the Alpha floor.
He had smiled when he told me that he stayed in his office until he was absolutely sure she would be asleep and when he got to his bedroom he found her fast asleep on his bed, he forced himself on her again while she was still asleep. He forced his mark on her and had to Alpha order her to mark him as well.
The whole time he was talking he had a smile on his face, when he was done he asked me if there was a female I was interested in and he made sure to tell me she had to be of age. He made sure she came to his office and as he closed the door behind her he also locked it, fear flashing in her eyes when she heard the door being locked.
My Father didn’t waste much time as he ripped her clothes off, he sat down on the couch next to me as he was still holding on to her.
