However, for now, that was the last thing that I was concerned about.
It was clear to me that they were not going to leave without that woman, whoever she was, being found, and the fact that someone, one of them, was hiding the way that she was, in my territory, was causing more of a stir than I would like. And I knew that it would be a matter of time before hell broke loose and things grew more complicated.
I took a deep breath and washed my hand before I frowned when I heard a knock on my bedroom door.
Eleanor’s scent hit my nostrils and I raised an eyebrow for a second before turning off the water cap.
I picked up a white towel and wiped my hand as I walked toward the door, opening it while I held onto the towel with my left hand.
“Are you okay, Eleanor?” I asked and she nodded before extending my card.
“I just came to give you your card.” She said, I nodded and took it from her. Watching as she looked down at her feet shyly. The fact that she returned it without the need for me to ask for it told me that she was a well educated woman who didn’t take what didn’t belong to her.
The budget was unlimited, and the account was unlocked, she could have taken whatever she wanted and regardless of the amount, but she didn’t. Instead, she came herself, and that was something that I both respected and appreciated about her.
“Did you get everything that you needed?” I asked and she nodded shyly.
“Yes, Natasha added a few things as well.” She said and I smiled. “You can deduct…”
“I didn’t ask what you got, as long as you like them and bought what you want, that is all that matters.” I said and she blushed. Her eyes avoided mine for a second before she glanced at the towel and frowned. “As for any deductions, I don’t want to hear you saying such a word again. I offered, I am not going to make you pay back for what I gave you, okay?”
“There is blood on the towel,” she said, taking a small step forward. I could tell that she was hesitant, and her racing heart told me that she was lost in whatever thoughts she had in her head about how I would react; therefore, I stayed still, allowing her to gather the courage to do what she wanted.
What is your story, malyshka? Why are you this frightened? Who was the monster that did this to you?
She slowly extended her hand before stopping a few inches before she touched mine, and I waited for a few seconds before I extended my hand to her. “The cuts are shallow, you don’t need to worry about them.”
“But they are still bleeding, they need to be cleaned.” She said and I smiled at her concern. The fact that she couldn’t feel the mating bond was something, or maybe she could, she just didn’t understand what she was feeling, and that was something that I kept in mind as it surprised me more than anything. Her eyes met mine for a second before she extended her hand to mine, taking the towel to wipe off a little blood that was still coming out of the cut. I didn’t even understand why it was bleeding as much as it was, but in all honesty, that was the least of my concerns.
“Do you have any alcohol that I can use? And a bandage?” She asked, making me fight back my wolf who wanted to purr at his mate’s concern. Considering that she didn’t understand what she was going through or who I was to her, I knew not to pressure her into finding out. I would rather have her know at her own pace, plus, I wasn’t in any rush to begin with. I knew to tame my wolf long enough for her to be able to process, and he wasn’t stupid either, he could tell that something was wrong with her, and for that, he wasn’t urging me to claim her as my own.
“It doesn’t need a bandage, Eleanor. They should heal in a few hours,” I said, assuring her.
“Yes, I agree that they will, but by the time they do, most of your things would be smudged with blood. I mean, the towel would or your clothes. The bandage would suppress that for a while.” She said, her eyes not meeting mine before her eyes widened and she took a step back.
Her heart raced and despite me not moving to approach her, it seemed like she had seen a ghost and was afraid that she would be hurt. I frowned in confusion before extending my hand toward her face, my heart dropping when she closed her eyes as if bracing herself for a slap to come.
I took a deep breath, making sure to calm myself, not wanting to scare her more than she already was. Whatever it was that was bothering her, I knew that it would have something to do with where she came from, and for that, I was going to allow her the time to open up about it or at least, knowing that she was safe here.
I slowly put my index finger under her chin, raising her face for her to look at me, knowing that it would be a few seconds before she dared meet my eyes, but I was more than willing to wait. She opened her eyes when she noticed that I didn’t remove my finger and that my touch was gentle, and I nodded at the bathroom.
“The first aid kit is in the bathroom. There is a cabinet under the sink, get whatever you want, I will be waiting for you.” I said and her eyes widened in surprise for a moment before she nodded. She walked toward the bathroom, her steps slow and calculated and I could hear her opening the cabinet to pull out the kit before the water ran.
I walked toward the bed and sat on the edge of it, waiting for her to come, and I couldn’t help but get lost in a number of thoughts that I had in my head, trying to read or figure out who my mate was. And it wasn’t until she walked out of the bathroom with the first aid kit in her hand that I snapped out of my daze as I turned to look at her.
“I’m sorry for the delay, I was washing my hands.” She said, and I smiled, watching as she set the box on the floor as she stood in front of me. “Let me know if it hurts too much, okay?”
Eleanor:
Alpha Killian hissed in pain and I frowned, removing the cloth from his hand for a second.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you.” I said, and he shook his head as he looked me in the eye.
