“It’s just a sting,” he said, taking me off guard. I knew that I would have gotten a slap or two, even though it wouldn’t be my fault, back at the house for the simple sting of trying to help. The lesson of not helping when he was injured was one that I learned the hard way as I grew older. That is of course, unless I was ordered to help. Then I would be having no choice to think otherwise.
The fact that he was actually allowing me to sit on his bed beside him as I tended to his cuts was something that I wouldn’t have expected, especially not as a maid who was working at his house.
I looked down at his hand which was in mine as he gently ran his finger over mine. I blushed but stayed completely still as I kept my eyes on his hand for a few seconds before slowly going back to cleaning the cut. I got up from the bed and walked toward the bathroom to clean the cloth from the blood, not wanting it to stain. And though he didn’t follow me, I didn’t have to turn around to know that he was looking at me.
However, I couldn’t help but feel somewhat secure around him, as if nothing could ever harm me, and that was a feeling that I don’t remember ever having with my own family.
I looked at myself in the mirror for a second, recalling his words before a small smile made its way to my lips. I shook my head and washed my own hands before turning toward the man who was still waiting for me on his bed.
I sat on the edge of the bed again, and pulled the medication and the bandage, and my heart swelled as I caught sight of the ointment that he put for me on my neck. The bruises that were on my body were yet to fade, and yet, the one that was on my neck had healed completely.
I took a deep breath, snapping myself out of my momentary daze before looking up at the Alpha who had his eyes on me, studying my expression for a few seconds, making me blush.
“I am going to put medication on it and then I’m going to cover it.” I said and he smiled. “I know that it is going to heal…”
“I never said anything against it,” he said, stopping me. “If you see the need for it, then I’m not going to object to what you want me to do.”
I frowned, processing his words before I looked up at him to make sure that I heard him correctly and that I wasn’t dreaming. His eyes were on mine for a few seconds before he nodded, letting me know to go on.
I slowly pulled an ointment that I knew all too well. It was the same one that I used to use when the cuts were too severe on my own body. Elton was never kind to me when it came to him being upset, and I never had anyone backing me up. It was like being in a war where I was ten times weaker, and yet, I was just fighting on my own.
“How is your neck?” The Alpha asked, breaking my train of thoughts. I jumped for a second before nodding as I slowly massaged his fingers, ensuring that the medication was spread evenly on his fingers. I slowly pulled a bandage out and started wrapping his cut before finding my voice to respond, and to my surprise, the Alpha seemed to be patient as he gave me my time.
“It has healed,” I said, and he slowly ran his finger over my neck, right where the bruise was. I waited for him to ask any questions about how I got it, and though I didn’t want to lie to him about it.
“I’m glad.” He said before pulling the ointment out of the kit and putting it on my lap. I frowned in confusion and he nodded. “If you need it, this way you can use it. I have a few in the fridge, and if anything, I can still buy a new one.”
“Alpha, you don’t have to…”
“I know,” he said, stopping me. “But I want to,”
I looked down at the ointment, momentarily forgetting his bandage as I processed the small gesture. I didn’t even remember when was the last time that my own father gave me any medication when I was ill, and here he was, a man that I didn’t know, hell, a man that I worked for, giving me an ointment for a simple bruise that he saw. And to my biggest of surprises, the man was doing it willingly, and without the need to ask for it.
“Thank you,” I said, and he smiled and nodded. He raised his hand which I squeezed unconsciously, my emotions getting the best of me before he hissed, making me frown. I looked down at his wounded hand and I frowned, noticing that I hurt him.
I quickly pulled my hand away, not wanting to be punished for it and he frowned in confusion as he saw my frightened state. I looked down on my lap, avoiding his eyes and he slowly extended his hand toward me, making me flinch.
“Eleanor,” he said, his voice so soft that a crying baby would have quieted down. I still didn’t dare look him in the eye as he put his hand on my cheek. I had to admit, it took everything, and I mean, everything in me not to flinch or run away.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean…”
“You don’t need to apologize, Eleanor.” He said, stopping me before he ran his finger over my cheek. My wolf whimpered in fear and he purred, taking me by surprise as I opened my eyes to meet his. He slowly pulled me closer to him, keeping his hand on my cheek, our eyes locked with one another as if the two of us were the only two in the world before our breaths mixed.
My heart raced, and he took a deep breath, his voice lowering to above a whisper as he stopped, his hot, minty breath hitting my face, sending shivers down my spine as I closed my eyes involuntarily.
“You have three seconds to pull away, Eleanor, because right now, this is my last strain of control…”
Killian:
My lips brushed against my mate’s, causing sparks to course through my veins as I fought the urge to take my mate here and now, claiming her as my own. However, that excitement quickly faded as I frowned when Eleanor froze for a second before putting a hand on my chest, stopping me. Her eyes held a fear that had me fighting my wolf off from reacting.
She quickly looked down at her lap, her eyes avoiding mine, and despite the clench that I felt, I knew to quickly recompose myself, not wanting to frighten her, especially after what happened the other day. She slowly removed her hand from my chest, clenching her fist as she tried fighting her shaking hands.
