A wave of anger gripped me.
Wiping the blood from my lips, I said coldly, “Ryan isn’t right for you.”
Rosaline’s POV:
Shut up!
I was utterly speechless. It was clear Caden had misunderstood.
But Ryan was nothing more than a younger brother to me.
Caden’s misunderstanding made him terrified. Not only had he stolen my first kiss, but he had also crossed the line. Did he think I, the Alpha of the Shadow Pack, was someone to trifle with?
He even dared to pull off my bra. Did he think I was just some random, easy she-wolf?
“That’s none of your business!” I shot Caden a fierce glare and stormed out, slamming the door behind me.
I was done. Not for one more second would I stay near such a dangerous man.
I even scolded Freya for her ridiculous reaction to him.
My mood was completely ruined after what happened in the restroom. Stepping outside, I called Ryan. “Ryan, I’m leaving.”
“Rosie, are you okay? You sound upset,” Ryan’s concerned voice came through the line.
“It’s nothing, just feeling a little unwell,” I lied.
“Where are you? Let me take you home.”
“There’s no need … ” I started, but Ryan insisted.
When I reached the entrance, Ryan had already pulled up in his Maserati.
“Rosie, get in!” he said, opening the car door with a smile.
“Fine,” I muttered, sliding into the passenger seat.
Caden’s POV:
When I returned to the private room, the business partner greeted me. “Mr. Holbrook, you’re back at last.”
I nodded, though my mind was elsewhere, replaying the events from earlier.
The kiss, her body – it was all intoxicating.
But she wasn’t my destined mate. The Moon Goddess hadn’t tied our fates.
Why was I feeling this way?
Even Edward didn’t have an answer. He pointed out that werewolves might engage out of pure desire, but what I felt wasn’t just lust.
Still, Rosaline’s hostility toward me was unmistakable, proving she wasn’t my fated mate.
Yet, I couldn’t shake the frustration.
Edward mocked me from deep within, but I ignored him. All I could think about was Rosaline’s stormy, furious exit.
Worry gnawed at me, “What if she ran into danger so late at night?”
“I need to go.” I stood abruptly, leaving the business partner confused as I exited the room.
I saw her getting into Ryan’s car when I reached the bar’s entrance.
They laughed together, her face lit with a smile – a stark contrast to the anger she had shown me.
Ryan hit the gas, and the car sped off, disappearing into the night.
Rage boiled within me. My expression darkened, and the cold energy I radiated seemed to lower the surrounding temperature.
“Mr. Holbrook, are you all right?” My business partner, who was about to leave, paused to check on me.
I shot him a frosty glare. “Go back inside. Bring out all the drinks!”
Rosaline’s POV:
I returned to Holbrook Manor in Ryan’s car. After he left, I went upstairs to my room, quickly washed up, and lay down.
The scene from the bar’s bathroom kept replaying in my mind.
Caden’s overbearing kiss wouldn’t leave my mind.
His warm hand had touched my breast.
I tossed and turned, unable to sleep, and by midnight, I still hadn’t gotten a wink of rest.
“Caden is a jerk!” I sat up abruptly, turned on the light, and cursed him hundreds of times in my head.
This was the first time in my life I had ever experienced insomnia.
I ran my dry lips together, sat up, and intended to pour myself some water, only to realize there was none in my room.
I had no choice but to go downstairs to the living room to get some.
As I was halfway down, I suddenly heard footsteps.
I immediately became alert.
I was worried that someone had broken in.
I tiptoed and hid behind the door. If it was a thief, they’d picked the wrong house.
The door opened, and a tall figure stumbled in, reeking of alcohol.
It was Caden, and it seemed like he was drunk.
I turned away in disgust, but before I could leave, he reached out and grabbed my arm.
I hated drunk people, so I pushed against him with some force to break free, but to my surprise, he collapsed on the floor, all limp.
I was startled, but when I saw him lying on the ground with his blurry, drunken eyes, I realized he was fine.
For no reason at all, he’d drunk so much. He was crazy.
I huffed in irritation, deciding to ignore him and let him sober up on his own.
“Tessa … ” Just as I turned to leave, Caden grabbed my arm again. His voice was hoarse and low, carrying an unreadable sadness. “Tessa, don’t go.”
Tessa?
What was he talking about?
I was confused. It sounded like a girl’s name.
This was strange. I wondered if this was the girl Caden liked and if he was confusing me for her.
“Caden, let go of me, or I’ll knock you out!” I tried to shake off his grip.
Caden’s POV:
I was drunk tonight, and everything felt blurry.
I didn’t know how I made it home or why I ended up sprawled on the floor.
But the fall did manage to wake me up a little. When I opened my eyes, I saw a slender girl standing in front of me.
Her scent was incredibly familiar and comforting.
I froze as if instantly transported back to when I was 13.
I had been kidnapped by members of another pack and was locked in a dark room with a girl. Aside from the guards outside, they had even placed a bear inside to keep us company.
I had once been bitten by a bear while hunting with my relatives when I was young, so I held a certain reverence for such creatures.
“Don’t be afraid. The more scared you are, the more it will bully you. It’s just like us – it’s also trapped here.”
In the darkness, the girl held me, protecting me.
