Her large, bright eyes blinked, shining like stars, lighting up a small corner of my heart.
We leaned against each other, huddling close.
The girl even joked, “I guess I just saved your life, huh? Otherwise, you’d have probably been scared to death by that bear. When you grow up, you’ll have to repay me, you know!”
I nodded seriously in agreement. “Okay.”
Gradually, the image of the girl from my memories began to merge with the figure in front of me.
I excitedly took her hand and gently pressed it to my face. “Tessa, do you remember? We were locked in that dark room … You protected me, helped me dress my wounds … “
Rosaline’s POV:
A dark room? A bear? Dressing wounds?
I listened to those unfamiliar words, suddenly feeling a headache as if something in my memory had flashed by, but I couldn’t catch it.
“Tessa, did you know I’ve been looking for you all this time? It’s so good to finally see you again,” Caden murmured, his lips brushing against my hand.
I tried to pull away, but Caden seemed lost in his world. “Tessa, you smell so good.”
“Caden, you’re drunk. Let go!” I was speechless. This man became uncontrollable when he was drunk.
“No, I won’t let go!” Caden’s grip was firm as he clung desperately to my hand. “Tessa, don’t leave me.”
“Fine, I won’t leave you. Let me help you back to your room,” I said with a sigh, realizing I had no choice. I couldn’t spend the whole night wrestling with Caden in the living room.
I pulled him up with all my strength. “Caden, get up, stop lying on the floor!”
Caden’s dazed eyes fluttered, and he half-heartedly responded, “Okay, Tessa. If you want me to get up, I’ll get up.”
I couldn’t even reply to that.
He was so bizarre, constantly calling me Tessa.
Caden, standing nearly six feet three, was tall and well-built, the fit type.
Meanwhile, since I had to hide my energy, I couldn’t tap into my Alpha strength, so helping Caden walk was quite a challenge.
His arm draped over my shoulder, and his body leaned into mine. His face was close to my head, and his warm breath spilled over my face.
This kind of close contact was a bit uncomfortable for me.
Suddenly, the image of Caden kissing me in the bathroom flashed across my mind. I tried to inch away, but Caden followed, staying as close as before.
Was he ever going to let go?
Never mind, I decided not to argue with a drunk person.
I stiffened as I helped him move toward the stairs.
Finally, after a struggle, we reached the second floor. Just as I was about to relax, I suddenly heard a woman’s shrill scream. “What are you two doing?!”
I looked up, and it was Queenie.
I couldn’t be bothered to explain. I simply guided Caden past Queenie and toward his room.
“Rosaline, stop right there!” Queenie hurried over.
Queenie’s POV:
I woke up in the middle of the night, hearing what seemed like some noise coming from the living room, so I got up to check.
To my surprise, as soon as I stepped out of my room, I saw Rosaline and Caden walking up the stairs, closely holding each other.
A closer look revealed that Caden was reeking of alcohol – he was drunk.
I was so shocked that I felt my eyes might pop out.
Since I arrived at Eclipse Pack when I was seven, I had never seen Caden drunk before.
Now, not only was he intoxicated, but he was also being supported by Rosaline, with his whole body leaning into hers.
I was certain that Rosaline was behind this – she must be trying to seduce Caden.
Unable to contain myself, I strode over and grabbed Rosaline’s arm. “What are you doing, getting Caden drunk in the middle of the night? Are you trying to take advantage of him?”
Rosaline looked at me with a calm, indifferent expression. “I’m Caden’s fiancée. He’s mine, and I don’t need to get him drunk to seduce him.”
“You’re … ” I was at a loss for words, biting my lip and following behind Rosaline. “Caden doesn’t need you to help him, let me do it.”
“Fine, then,” Rosaline said, unexpectedly pushing Caden toward me.
“Caden, are you all right?” I asked, both surprised and relieved as I caught him.
This was the closest I’d ever been to him. The strong smell of alcohol mixed with his masculine scent made my heart race.
But he was so heavy, I had to use both hands to support him.
Rosaline smiled at me, shook her head, and turned to walk back to her room.
I struggled to help Caden onto the bed, then carefully removed his shoes. “Caden, what’s going on? Why did you drink so much?”
Caden opened his eyes just a bit, and in his dazed state, he mumbled, “You’re not Tessa.”
“What? Caden, what did you say?” I couldn’t hear him clearly, so I asked again.
But Caden just closed his eyes and quickly drifted off into a deep sleep.
Sitting at the edge of the bed, I stared at his handsome face, mesmerized.
In his deep sleep, his facial features were softer than usual – less stern and more relaxed – but still strikingly handsome. The sight made my heart flutter.
“Caden, why do you always ignore me? I don’t want to just be your cousin,” I said softly, gently caressing his face.
I had liked Caden ever since I was 14 when I first started developing feelings. I had liked him even back then.
But he only ever saw me as his cousin, a little sister, treating me with indifference.
The truth was, I wasn’t his cousin – I was adopted.
I also had the right to be his Luna.
Looking at Caden’s peaceful sleeping face, I could no longer hold back and leaned down, gently kissing him.
…
Rosaline’s POV:
Back in my room, I couldn’t stop thinking about the look Queenie had given me earlier.
I knew exactly what it meant.
I had seen that look in Wendy’s eyes before, and also in Stella’s.
Does Queenie like Caden?
But isn’t Queenie Caden’s cousin?
Queenie and Caden share blood ties.
I shook my head, thinking their relationship was so complicated. No wonder Caden treated me the way he did. He probably flirted with young girls all the time, and now even his cousin was falling for him.
I suddenly realized I was holding a diamond button in my hand.
It was the button from Caden’s suit sleeve.
It must have come off during our earlier scuffle.
After a moment’s thought, I turned and headed to
Caden’s room, planning to return it. I didn’t want to be accused of stealing again.
Caden’s door was slightly ajar, and I gently pushed it open.
“Caden … ” Before I could finish my sentence, I froze in shock at the sight before me.
